I felt something that is kind of obvious which is the nostalgia that the game brings; for example, I remember the feeling I had when I played Crysis 2 on my PS3 I was astonished with the graphics and now I get that feeling again! Also gladly I’ve forgotten a lot of stuff! So it was great to play it again.

The Crysis Remastered trilogy is a huge hit from the past. For those who played already any of the games will have fun playing these classics again, even the new players, especially the new players.

"crysis_rt_2"

I will start with Crysis 1 because there is some stuff that needs to be said. The aiming system is just terrible! The controls are way outdated on the first one; everything seems very heavy and slow… but for the two sequels, the gameplay is perfect just the way they used to be back when they were first released I mean… the base is the same, that being the buttons, they are pretty much the same for all 3 games, but you can fell a huge difference on the “effect” that the abilities have, everything is more fluid. The tactical part is not really necessary; I mean, you can just go forward shooting everything up and alternate between the cloak mode and the armor mode without the need of putting much thought into it…You have to remember that the game is 14 years old, it is also short and there aren’t enough boss encounters. I do love the story and the soundtrack is a total 10 out of 10, so you have to keep in mind that the game does get better on the two sequels. (but you can choose a feminine voice for the suit, which is cool)

Now!!! Crysis 2 and 3 are just as perfect as it was back then! I’m talking about those two together because after the huge improvements they did since the first game (mechanically speaking), they didn’t do any big change to the game, just some display stuff, like the suit’s voice is now louder (which for me is great, I think it adds a “charm” to the game). Now the tactical part is extremely important and you can create your own strategy based on the options the visor gives you, an impressively flexibility, observe your surroundings and switch your tactics to suit your mood. Want to storm straight into battle with your armor activated? Do it, rather snipe from long-range, flank your enemies or just sneak past the lot of them and head straight to your next objective? It’s all up to you so keep in mind that now the armor’s abilities are 100% used.

"crysis_rt_3"

The graphics are now beyond incredible, making the game great for those who like to explore the map not just to see the beautiful scenarios but there are some rewards to get. From the second game on you do feel like you are playing as a weapon! This package is a great deal, one that offers two very awesome shooters and Crysis 1 for less than the cost of one new release (there's no Crysis Warhead and that can be responsible for some angry faces since it is one of fan's favorite), this trilogy is totally worth it of buying and playing it, they sum up at least 30 hours of fun there.

Crysis 3 is an improvement of the second game, and it is also by far the most visually impressive of the bunch. Having previously only played it on the PS3 it is awesome to see it looking so sharp on my PS4. Crysis 3 can actually be the high point of the entire trilogy from a main mechanical point of view.

There is not much to talk about since it is a remaster, but I must highlight that unfortunately, they removed the multiplayer mode… it was my favorite multiplayer game, although it does make a lot of sense not to get a server to a remake.

"crysis_rt_1"

Final Impressions (and more about graphics and soundtrack):

I was over the moon when I was asked to do this review because I’m a huge fan of this franchise. I still own copies of Crysis 2 and 3 even tho I don’t have a PS3 anymore, so playing it again with such incredible graphics on my PS4; was extremely satisfying. Crysis has one of the most impressive soundtracks; the music has a heavyweight on it… it’s sinister and beautiful. The geniuses behind the Crysis trilogy soundtrack are Inon Zur (The same composer from Fallout, Pathfinder Kingmaker, Dragon Age 2…), freaking Hanz Zimmer! Recognized worldwide for his work on blockbuster films like “Inception” and “The Dark Knight”, Zimmer and his team featuring Lorne Balfe worked with the existing composers Borislav Slavov and Tilman Sillescu to create the intense and dramatic score for Crysis 2 which sets the tone for the game’s backdrop of a devastated New York City in 2023 and Borislav Slavov who is famous for his work in Baldur's Gate, Divinity, etc...

Crysis is not a very challenging game on normal mode, so if you really want to get a full experience of how necessary is the armor “gadgets” during the combat, you should consider going for a higher difficulty option.

Overall: 8/10
Developer: Ubisoft Toronto

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5(Reviewed), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S

Genre: First-person shooter, Action-adventure

Publisher: Ubisoft

Far Cry 6 is an open-world adventure based in Yara, a beautiful tropical paradise, under the iron fist of current president Antón Castillo played by Giancarlo Esposito. You (Dani Rojas) are thrown into the deep end trying to escape the military and police forces of Yara. There is a revolution in the air; you and your guerrilla comrades are ready to fight off Antón Castillo and his evil forces.

Far Cry 6 just extends the current format and gameplay style of Far Cry games. If you are new to Far Cry, it's a huge open world that you play the majority of the time in the first person. You can craft upgrades by collecting resources and upgrading your arsenal as you progress through the game. It's very much a first-person shooter where you have a host of vehicles and horseback to navigate the world.

"FC6_1"

If you have played previous versions, you can see this is an update to the last version with a new storyline and area (Yara) to explore. The game must be thought of as a mercenary style game where you slowly do tasks: take over checkpoints, sabotage the enemy, rob supplies etc... to gain influence over Yara and the inhabitants. It's a massive (I don't think this does it justice) open world that is stunning. You will take pictures and stop to admire the views during the game. It just looks superb, and every time I play, I notice new things. Yara is a tropical paradise that consists of a set of islands with volcanoes, mountains, jungles and beaches. Each aspect of the terrain and surroundings is captured in stunning detail with the addition of animals, the army and police to greet you at every corner.

Ubisoft has done a fantastic job with presentation, menus and general navigation in the game. They understand Far Cry and the little tweaks like quick travel all over the map-reduce the grind of travelling this huge map. The game is polished and has the refinements you expect from a series that has been around for so long.

"FC6_2"

The world is chaotic, action-packed and just mayhem at times. The game runs at dynamic 4K at 60 FPS. The story deals with themes of oppression, nationalism, freedom and authoritarianism. There is a close link to Yara and South American countries and their struggles. This is ubiquitous in the game. The game has a focus on revolutions and days gone by. The main story does capture these themes as well as the struggle of the people. The voice acting and acting is fantastic; it helps drive the story along. The gameplay is more a mercenary style where you play as you see fit to accomplish missions. There is a dichotomy between gameplay and the story. The story tries to paint Antón as a conflicted leader in parts with his son by his side. However, the vast amount of people suffering under his tyranny doesn't tally with any sympathy for Antón.

The game is fun, the explosions, the helicopters and just all-out action are fun. The game doesn't push the envelope in terms of new game-play or new game mechanics, it does Far Cry and first-person shooters fantastically well.

"FC6_3"

Far Cry 6 is extremely enjoyable; there is a lot to do in the world in between the main missions and plentiful side missions. If you have played Far Cry before, you may think this is more of the same. The world and narrative are done well, the ruthless dictator, good versus bad and lots of missions to expand the story. The game is chaotic fun. The crafting isn't overburdening for me which is great; I picked the majority of resources while doing missions and gaining control of the island. There is repetition in taking over key elements from the army but the sheer amount of missions help to break up the repetition of side missions. The game isn't groundbreaking; you have seen all of this done before but, it's great fun with an easy learning curve, you are in and doing missions within a few minutes of starting the game that should be applauded.

Overall: 7.5/10
Developer: Frontier Developments

Platform: PC (Steam)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Massively Multiplayer, Strategy

Publisher: Frontier Developments

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is an FPS and spaceship combat game that is the latest extension of Elite Dangerous. The game is set in a futuristic galaxy where the protagonist flies between galaxies to undertake missions. The galaxy seems infinite. The scale of planets and galaxies to visit is huge. I haven't played Elite Dangerous in a long time but I was looking forward to seeing what it had to offer and I will delve through the multiple game types and the action feast that is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey.

To start, I mainly played the FPS mission-based game, where you travel the galaxies where you attempt to gain influence and power up your character. It has that classic action RPG style gameplay mixed with a huge emphasis on the action elements. I loved the FPS elements, it's very action-focused and you have to choose how you negotiate each mission. The FPS is mixed with interstellar travel. Different planets have different temperatures and gravity which mean each level is unique. There is a mix of stealth elements, shooter, all-out mayhem and lots of little clever gameplay mechanics such as specialist tools. I did find the gameplay a bit repetitive without a story to bind your missions together, the game consists of what would be considered side missions. If you like the mechanics of going from planet to planet and upgrading your player then this may be up your street.

"elited_o1"

The control system does require a keyboard and mouse just with the sheer amount of menus and options available, the controller just won't be suitable. The regular FPS controls make it easy for anyone to get acclimated with the game. There is an array of menus and side menus that can be a bit clunky, to begin with, it did require a couple of hours to get used to them. The FPS elements are pretty standard and the spaceship does require a bit of time to be proficient. Extensive controls and menus are needed to track missions, spaceships, planets and goals.

Maps, space and levels are all rendered well, this will vary on the GPU that you have but even on my mid-tier GPU, it was awesome to look at it. The frame rate at 1080p was consistent for me and I didn't encounter any graphical issues. The game isn't fully an open world. Each area you visit is enclosed and limits where you can roam. The mix of martian, moon and space environments provide a backdrop for the levels. Each level/area has its unique buildings such as factories, outposts, laboratories, refineries etc. It does give a sense of a series of planets that are inhabited, a living world where you drop into different places to complete missions. The whole space theme, ships, environments and outposts are done well. The gameplay reminds me of Mass Effect without the central story to pin it all together, it's the game I think that comes closest to what Elite Dangerous: Odyssey plays like except a first-person view. Just like Mass Effect, the game is mission-based as opposed to wandering amongst the planets.

"elited_o2"

There is also a space combat mode that allows you to pit yourself against other online players. It allows for deathmatch and team deathmatch modes. I found this tons of fun and I thought it was cool but I found matchmaking poor and a lack of full games an issue. Though there could be huge scope for an improvement in terms of matchmaking which detract from the game.

"elited_o3"

Overall, the game is interesting, I love the mix of FPS action-based space action mixed with spaceship combat. I like the use of tools and levelling up your character as you see fit. There is a huge world to explore and tons of missions to boot. The single-player game has elements of massively multiplayer online games too where other commanders are visible in lobbies and stations. The spaceship and deathmatch combat is awesome but I found matchmaking poor and very rarely played with more than 3 people.

"elited_o4"

The game does suffer from a host of bugs and issues which made the first person game extremely frustrating. The point score of 5/10 is pretty much down to bugs and issues. I encountered multiple mission-ending bugs where I had to do a game reset. I found the most frustrating thing is that I was getting into a rhythm and then some sort of bizarre issue stopping your gameplay. These bugs need to be addressed to get the whole experience. With bugs and issues fixed, I could see the game as being very enjoyable but I was left frustrated most of the time. I was hoping the game wouldn't crash or just end abruptly. I found the lack of story in the FPS made the game lacklustre and the missions became quite repetitive quickly and with bugs hugely frustrating.

Overall: 5/10

Project Genesis is a PVP sci-fi shooter that is both an FPS and spaceship combat game too. The game is set in a futuristic world where you take the role of operatives who are trying to either take control of bases or protect them from intruders. It's not a new game in that sense, it follows classic FPS genres. The game heavily leans on being a team-based game too. It must be noted that the game is in early access and there are updates, fixes and improvements occurring periodically. This should be considered as a preview.

The game does have a lot going for it, I'm a huge fan of FPS and spaceship combat. This game tries to meld and join the two formats. It's interesting from a gameplay point of view that you can shift from either game type seamlessly in the game. It does combine the game types well.

"projectgenesis1"

The FPS does remind me of games I have played for years which is no bad thing, there is a huge amount of action and joyful mayhem. It was easy to pick up and play. It has all the classic elements of an FPS:- quick, frantic and lots of mayhem going on. You can customise and play load-outs that suit your style i.e. tank, stealth and so on. It took a little more time to get adjusted to the spaceship combat gameplay. I always find flying elements have a steeper learning curve and it's not that bad in all honesty. Like the FPS elements, the visuals are superb and the action matches it too. The graphics are slick and the game does well in both game types. I didn't suffer any graphical bugs or bugs when playing the game.

"projectgenesis2"

There is a huge amount of customisation and personalisation in the game types, the customise does affect your play style, you can choose smaller quicker spaceships or heavier tank builds same applies to the FPS elements too. The game also provides some solid tutorials and walkthroughs of all aspects of the game which helped me a lot and got me up to gaming speed quicker.

I played primarily on US servers, while the ping times weren't the best, it didn't affect my gameplay. The net code was solid and the franticness of the game shone through. I had very little noticeable latency.

"projectgenesis3"

The game is solid, the game mechanics and visuals are all good. I like the inclusion of two different games in the one, both are done well and enjoyable to play. I found it hard to find players at certain times of the day or certain days but once I managed to find a game it was enjoyable. I loved the action-packed nature of FPS and its high intensity, the spaceship is less intense but action-packed. It does what it attempts to do very well. I really enjoyed my time playing the game and want to play more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the latest game in the hugely popular franchise of Call of Duty. In this outing, we are in the world of the Cold War in 1981. This game contains a single, multiplayer, and Zombies. It's back to the classics and staples for COD. The game runs at 120 FPS, 4K Ultra HD with ray-tracing.

"COD_BOCW_1"

The single-player is the mode I always play first despite how much fun multiplayer and zombies is. It's 1981, the Cold War is in full flow, you work as part of secretive CIA led operatives force who are trying to stop nefarious bad guys who are trying to destroy civilization. The story follows the backstories of agents and how they have been brought together and stop impending doom and nuclear war. There are a variety of level styles in the game from low-key stealth missions to all-out attack. The levels are narrative-driven and tie into the themes of stopping the nuclear war and fleshing out the story. The game draws from the previous COD games and modern FPS games, the level design, environments and levels provide a much-needed variety to keep it interesting. The narrative is interesting and is engaging which tries to contextualise that era. Levels, environments, voice acting are top-notch and evoke the era of Cold War 1981.

However, the campaign mode is short, the focus is on the much loved multiplayer.

"COD_BOCW_2"

Multiplayer is back with a bang if you have played any of the previous games, it will be a very much familiar mode. It contains a whole host of game types Team Deathmatch, Domination and Hardpoint. The new multiplayer mode is VIP Escort which does what it says on the tin, two teams where one is to protect the VIP at all costs and the other to kill the VIP. I have to say, I love the Call of Duty multiplayer games, there are tons of fun with a whole host of gaming types depending on your preference. There is a huge level of character and loadout customisation too. I'm a huge fan of the straightforward Team Deathmatch mode where two teams try to score the most kills. The simplicity of this game type is what makes it so fun.

The horde mode of Zombies is back too. In Zombies, the name of the game is survival against huge hordes of zombies. It's simple but tons of fun. This mode is particularly action-filled where you build up currency to get perks and weapons that will help you off the zombies coming for you. This mode is crazy, hectic, action-filled and full of zombies.

"COD_BOCW_3"

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has the staples that a COD fan expects, it has a solid but short story mode that provides some context to this series outing. The COD franchise is based heavily on the multiplayer and this is where it shines. The multiplayer provides updated maps and some extra tweaks this year. The game is familiar and lots of fun though. There is plenty of playability and replayability in the multi-player game, the main story has little replay value though. The level design, environments and voice acting are all done well. It's more of the same for COD and it's players. You can expect adrenaline-fuelled first-person action.

It's an FPS puzzler where you can control the speed by time with your movement. This is the twist in Superhot. This mechanism is what gives its uniqueness in gameplay. The minimalist background, character design, and the use of very few colours give this game a real clean and stylish feel, it's almost sterile. The game-play is far from sterile.

"superhot_mcd_2"

The stripped-back look and feel emphasise the game-play, it really gets players to think strategically about your choices in-game and how you approach your enemies. I like the emphasis on the game-play. It's not a case of style or substance, the intro and loading screens add to the futuristic feel of the game. I'm new to Superhot and I found my first few hours of gameplay disorientating, fascinating, and intriguing. I found the transition from load screens to actual gameplay with very little notice - exhilarating and chaotic. After the few hours of the gameplay and the familiarity of the puzzles in the game, I found the roguelike gameplay lots of fun. This is more focussed on the action and FPS element as opposed to puzzle games.

"superhot_mcd_3"

Even though the game centres around the one mechanism of being able to control the speed of time with movement, the levels with randomly generated enemies and layout stop the game from being repetitive. There are a plethora of weapons and items you can use to kill a variety of enemies. Cores and hacks that allow you to tweak the game in your favour by giving you superpowers or simplifying levels depending on what hack or core you choose. Cores allow you to have a persistent ability throughout the game whereas hacks are time bound or specific to a certain point in the game. "2084"

2084 is an intense first-person shooter where player success is dependent on their skill as a hacker as much as a marksman. Only by hacking the network for perks such as ammunition and augmented health stats will players stand any change of escaping the mysterious cyberpunk chamber while under the constant deluge of mindless, murderous creatures. The Early Access version will include two game modes: a story mode where players must kill enemies and level bosses before facing off against the game’s final, most challenging adversary, and then an endless mode where gamers face wave after wave of enemies, killing everything in sight to gain top ranking on the leaderboards
