The game has a deeply rich; and colourful aesthetic, and the controls are super simple. You control several discs to line up coloured points to remove them from the screen; you do this until the screen; is overcome with points, and it's game over! The more points you remove, the more you score.

You chain multiple lines if you are lucky enough. Powerups such as rewinds, rainbows, and bombs add other strategic elements to consider when playing; these help you eek an extra few points in that round. A rich soundtrack and sound effects do lift the game and add more depth. Like any game, there are a host of achievements to get while you get that highest score, and you can challenge your friends too.

Like any smartphone game, it's intuitive, super fun and simple to pick up and play. You will spend countless hours trying to get the highest score and climb up the scoreboard. The simple nature hides an elegant game that is tough to master but super enjoyable!

Available on the iOS store for $1.99 USD / £1.79 GBP, no adverts and no in-app purchases too! It's multi-lingual, supporting more than 20 languages.

A family consisting of a man, woman, child and dog are chilling at home one night. Having their whole life turned upside down by a series of strange events where aliens descend from the sky. Destruction, weirdness, and an unpredictable world are where you start on this journey. The man is left; with his dog in search of the woman and child.

The game has a dark Sci-Fi atmospheric environment quality throughout. It has this beautiful film quality to it; the wonderful dark world is lit up with the odd spaceship, lamp, or hanging light. These glimmers of light in the world; ratchet up the tension in the world. It gives a wonderful; sense of being in this crazy world where you know very little.

"somerville1"

Every event, explosion, and alien encounter is pronounced by the score. It's on purpose that you know very little, there is no real; narration of what is going on, and it's a journey of exploration. You just navigate areas where you figure out the path by trial and error; you must figure it out all with little to no hints. For me, some narration and some; feedback apart from dying would have enhanced the game. It's too mysterious for its own good, which is a shame.

"somerville2"

I love the straightforward controls, it takes little to navigate and control the character, and it's responsive too. You come to an area and solve a variety of puzzles to progress to the next area. The art direction is wonderful; I love the indie genre for pushing gaming into new avenues and trying to explore gaming. Games aren't as cookie-cutter as they used to be. There are lots to like in this game.

"somerville3"

The game does lack some key, narration and feedback that will; just enhance the whole gaming experience. I felt some narration or some story would have helped immensely. At times I felt some narration or some story would have helped immensely. At times I felt lost, and that was an issue when it happened over and over again. It's beautifully designed, and the gameplay is fun, but the lack of story / cohesive narrative is the main issue I had with the game. I love the idea of lacking narration in a puzzle adventure game and enjoyed lots of the gameplay.

Overall: 7/10

Developer: Santa Monica Studio

Platforms: PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5 (Reviewed)

Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG

Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment

God of War Ragnarök is the highly anticipated follow-up to the much-acclaimed God of War, released in 2018. God of War Ragnarök continues from the last game, where you are immersed in the immersive story of Kratos and Atreus. For those who haven't played God of War or can't remember the plot from the last game, a handy recap gives you an overview of the last; game which was much needed by me.

Ragnarök on the PS5 does utilise the power of the console, and from the first action, you see the world of God of War in stunning detail from the characters, level design, enemies, and surroundings are precise and pristine. It takes your breath away, and throughout the, entirety of the game, you are surprised and just in awe of the fantastic screenshot-laden game. I mean, the first impressions do; set the tone for the whole game, and it doesn't disappoint. It's very hard; to find any visual defects in the game; the landscapes and the variety of environments are stunning. I loved the transition from dark colosseum-like structures to open-world beaches, underwater levels, and much more. The game seamlessly brings the player through the story to playable parts, the game has a more immersive feel, and you feel a part of the story.

"godofwarragnarok1"

The cinematics throughout the game is further enhanced by the wonderful music score and sound effects. The superb music enhances every boss fight and cinematic piece. This is enhanced through the controller's haptic feedback, thinking of extra texture throughout the game.

Gameplay centres on using Kratos in this sandboxed environment which isn't an open world. This, means that levels are very structured, and God of War has made intricate levels that are wonderful to explore and find things. Levels are even more intriguing when you must use Atreus and work as a team to solve puzzles and progress further in the world. I didn't feel burdened and bored at any point when doing missions or side missions which just; made the game more enjoyable.

"godofwarragnarok5"

You can build your skill tree and upgrade your armour and weapons to customise; to your play style. The combat is superb; levelling up helps you get additional combos and move sets.

The weapon choices do give a richer; and deeper gameplay feel. Each weapon will affect how you play and how you level it up. I loved the diverse power-up options. The shields are intriguing; some shields are designed as big huge shields that; block, whereas others are more nimble and rely on parries.

"godofwarragnarok2"

Boss fights add another depth to the gameplay; you fight a mixture of Gods, Creatures, and the undead. Each boss battle requires you to approach the fight strategically, and button-bashing won't help! Some of the bosses are huge and impressive in scale. The mini-bosses and random bosses appear throughout the exploration of the world.

Game Length and playtime will be up to 40 hours, but this really depends on how many of the side quests; and if you decide to collect every trinket in the game. This, is a ballpark figure, and if you are taking your time as I did, it's easily a much longer and richer experience. There is a real timeless quality to the exploration in the game; it never seems like a chore; this includes the side missions. The side missions are as rewarding and interesting as the main missions too!

"godofwarragnarok3"

Graphic Fidelity Modes:

Resolution mode: 4k @ 30 FPS

Performance mode: 60 FPS

Performance Mode with High Frame Rate: 4k @ 40 FPS

Frame Rate Mode: 120 FPS

"godofwarragnarok4"

It's hard to find a more complete game in terms of gameplay, storytelling, and just all-out fun. It stays faithful to the storytelling and general awesomeness of God of War (2018) but is bigger, bolder and; is a beautiful next step in the journey of God of War. God of Ragnarök has this wonderful cinematic element that underpins the entire game, the transitions from a narrative-based story to solving puzzles and ultimately beating huge enemies. The game has this beautiful flow, and I ended up losing hours in the game where I was so immersed that I didn't feel the time go by. Ragnarök achieves this wonderful timeless immersion through fantastic level design, great storytelling, believable characters, stunning visuals, and amazing action rolled into one. The buddy team of Kratos and Atreus just makes the story and gameplay more involved to the player without making it seem like a standalone one-player.

Overall: 9.5/10

Developer: You Will Get There

Platform: PC

Genre: Adventure

Publisher: You Will Get There

I have been lucky to play a whole host of beautiful indie games this year. Somber is the latest interesting indie game that; is full of intrigue and wonder. Somber isn't truly an open-world game; it's an action platformer that is hand-painted, which gives a beautifully unique art style.

"somber1"

The game makes wonderful use of lighting and 2D backgrounds to give a 3D sense to the world. Each level in the map has its own theme and lighting; you go from chamber to chamber, solving puzzles to keys, to unlock other areas in the game. You take the role of this little creature who zips across the landscape; you are a dark cloud with an eye in essence. This puffy cloud is just travelling this dark terrain, trying to help anyone in your path.

The gameplay consists of distinct rooms that are interconnected; in some instances, there are multiple entry/exit points for the rooms. Each room will have its own unique puzzle to solve, power-ups to collect and new mechanics to discover. I loved the puzzles, everything from the simple well thought puzzles to be solved; the game lends itself to this dark, mysterious world where so much is known. As you progress through levels, more of the story and what happens to unfold. The platforming elements scale in difficulty as your progress; and chain what you have learned throughout the game.

"somber2"

The graphics and presentation are wonderful; every sprite and character is stunningly animated. The world meshes the background, enemies and the player in this gloomy dark atmospheric environment that needs to be explored and enjoyed. A wonderful, sombre music score is present throughout, adding to the tension and unease of the world. It's wonderfully presented, and the sound quality is superb.

"somber3"

The 2D indie platformer puzzle game has really pushed boundaries in terms of game and level design, using layering, lighting, and sound to build a tense but wonderful environment. The game is pure fun, and I was glued to it. Playing on the Steamdeck was a bonus too. Solid gameplay and game design make for a fantastic adventure.

Overall: 8/10

The football (soccer) season is in full swing in Europe, and this means the next version of FIFA. FIFA 23 will be on the mind of footie fans throughout the world. FIFA is the quintessential football game these days; there isn't any competition at the moment. However, being the go-to football game isn't the blessing it once was, and in this iteration, it's hard to see where, improvements can be made until a rebuild takes place. As a football fan, I do; look forward to seeing what FIFA brings, but there has been a small iterative update each year as opposed to a revolution. As with any football game, people want the latest team updates for their favourite teams. This is also the last outing of the current FIFA franchise from EA, as the branding rights no longer belong to EA.

The game changer for me is the Hypermotion2 technology which gives an additional sense of realism to an already super realistic game. The player animations and visual fidelity are superb. Players seem to run more fluidly, and the interaction and jostling are even more realistic. A lot of these minor tweaks have enhanced the game. The player AI is solid, and the various levels of the challenge will give everyone something. Every level of player is catered for.

"fifa23_1"

There is a sleeker ball control mechanic and player animations, there does seem to be better team AI, and the game does have a solid flow. Players and their likenesses are captured with amazing detail. In general, game mechanics are improved, but there are no massive overhauls; the game does play better and is more responsive.

I mean, the presentation on FIFA has never been an issue, but it's been improved even more. FIFA 23 has cross-play enabled, too, so you can play with friends on the same generation of consoles, i.e. Playstation 4 can play Xbox One players and so on.

"fifa23_2"

Women's club teams have been added as well, increasing the playable teams significantly.

The usuals can be expected: the UI is polished, and the presentation is superb, every; element from icons to players has the FIFA polish. A banging soundtrack has been included.

In reality, it's difficult to feel all these elements straight off in your first few games. Online games and matchmaking are superb; the net code means finding games is easy, and there are very few issues when games are being played. I spend the majority of my time playing Seasons or Volta online, so; I would notice this.

FIFA is all about licences, and they are all there for your favourite and despised teams alike. The licences are another standout feature that means people come back to FIFA.

"fifa23_3"

FIFA is stacked with game modes such as Career Mode, Pro Clubs, Volta, Online Modes and FUT, just to mention a few of the most popular ones. I can't do them all justice in the one review, but the game is packed to the seams.

The last incarnation of FIFA, FIFA 23, is graphically stunning and brings the up-to-date rosters to everyone. The Hypermotion2 technology has brought on visual fidelity in leaps and bounds, the game; just is smoother. The game is more of a simulation football game than in previous versions.

"fifa23_4"

The addition of xG and enhanced replays is super slick and makes reliving your goals even more amazing. Cross-play is a huge bonus. Also, the introduction of women's club teams too. The game plays more like a simulation with tons of modes, including an online, career mode and ultimate team too, which will keep you more than occupied.

It's a solid send-off to the biggest football game of our generation.

We have a post from July (http://comicbuzz.com/playstation-plus-updates-what-to-look-forward-to/) that covers each of the tiers in more detail and what to expect.

I want to follow up on what I uncovered and what I have; liked about the new Playstation Plus updates. It must be noted that there are new games constantly being added each month to each tier. The premium and extra tiers have the same PS4 and PS5 catalogues of games. PS1, PS2, and PS3 games are in the premium tier. The tiers will come down to how much of the older games you want more than anything else apart from the Trial mode, which I think is well worth it.

For me, the Game Trial mode in the premium tier is an amazing feature that lets you try a complete game for a whole two hours. Realistically this gives you some confidence that you will like the game before you, or you can try a genre of game that you wouldn't have previously played. There are; a few notable games that I tried that I was interested in after playing the complete game which otherwise I have ignored. This premium feature is a game changer for me. It really enhances the Playstation Plus experience. There is a limited amount of trial games at the moment. Oh, and you get to keep trophy progress, too, from the trial.

"psplus"

I have found a significant improvement in the Cloud Streaming, and whilst it's not 100% perfect. It's much improved from the initial release in June, though not every game is available for Cloud Streaming. Each month new games get added to all versions of Playstation games that will satisfy retro gamers as well as current gamers. The offerings of amazing games throughout the years are stunning. You follow the beautiful and bleak tale of Joel and Ellie as they traverse America in a post-apocalyptic and zombie world. The player explores; a host of amazing areas that provide a wonderful backdrop to an amazing; and enthralling story.

The PS5 version of the The Last of Us Part I is a rebuild of the classic. I have played; the original Last of Us a long time ago. The new updated and rebuilt version brings this amazing action-packed game into the present and truly, uses the power of the PS5 to enhance every detail of the game. The fidelity of the game is the modern generation and is more than worthy of a replay of this classic.

"lastofusparti_1"

The game, in general across the board, is more polished from the graphics, control, lighting and music too.

From the first scene, the game is a wonderful mix of a dark, beautiful, bleak, and mysterious world. The game is wonderfully cinematic throughout every scene and is worthy of the photo mode. Every transition from building to open area has a sense of tension, and the players become immersed in the Last of Us experience. The core gameplay is a mixture of compromises of stealth and action/shooter elements; the game allows you to choose your approach as it suits your play style. You can be all gung-ho and just go out all guns blazing. Stealth requires a more thought-out and slow approach to the game. Supplies and items are limited in the game, which enhances the core survivor elements of the game but further entrenches the player in this post-apocalyptic world. Your choice of upgrades and use of ammunition all play a vital role in your survival.

"lastofusparti_2"

The game uses the dualsense to help immerse the player even further. The haptic feedback helps to wrench the tension further by accenting and being activated during the speech by characters; it helps emphasise the delivery of lines.

A neat teach is the numerous difficulties from very easy to hardcore. Even if you aren't a veteran of these games, there is a mode to suit you. The easier mode allows the player to focus even more on the engrossing story and beautiful world with only having a limited challenge, but for those who want to experience a tough and challenging game, the option is there too.

For those who want an additional challenge, there is a permadeath mode where death will require you to replay an act, a chapter or the entire game, again depending on which setting you choose.

"lastofusparti_3"

Speedrun mode is unlocked when you complete a playthrough of the game. This allows you to track your current playtime and chapter playtime too.

The prequel chapter Left Behind is also included in this version. This chapter explores the relationship between Ellie and Riley in Boston. Another bonus to play in this stunning game and; to explore more of Ellie too.

Fidelity mode lets the game run in native 4K mode while trying to keep a consistent 30fps; this is the mode I used for a vast chunk of my playthrough. I loved seeing every detail in glorious 4K.

"lastofusparti_4"

Performance mode targets to keep the game at 60fps while scaling the resolution dynamically, which upscales to 4K, making movement and the combat even more immersive and fluid.

120Hz plus Fidelity mode is supported; on 120Hz compatible displays, this tries to hit the sweet spot between fidelity mode and performance mode, trying to retain 40fps while running native 4K.

Unlocked frame rate Performance mode is only available on a 120Hz display that uses a Variable Refresh rate to support greater than 60fps with a target of 120fps.

"lastofusparti_5"

The Last of Us Part I has a truly immersive and immense feel throughout the game. The brilliant story, cast of characters, voice acting and beautiful world make this game such; a brilliant experience. Each element of the gameplay is polished and refined; you feel a part of every action and feel a part of the game. The game intertwines an amazing, engrossing story with fantastic gameplay mechanics. The world is stunning and seems huge too. You can play in either stealth or action; the choice is yours. The game combines all elements of a blockbuster film and a stunning horror survival game that is truly engrossing and immersive. The rouge-like elements of the game allow you to unlock more items as you progress and die through each stage.

"gigapocalypse2"

While the game does take inspiration from Rampage, it doesn't have a lot of key mechanics; it has its mechanics. You march your monster and use your melee or special attacks to wreak havoc on each stage. It's an action-packed side-scrolling shoot 'em up and mash-up game. You control your monster, and you customise your power-ups to destroy buildings and everything else in your way, little; people beware. The game has fantastic 2D pixel art that gives a glorious retro feel to the game. Music and sound effects evoke classic retro games too. It's a wonderful, updated version for modern players. Controls are responsive, and while the game is one-dimensional, it's super fun.

"gigapocalypse3"

Gigapocalypse is a wonderful all-out side-scrolling retro-inspired action game. You can choose your monster of choice and customise it to use the powers you want. The game does get a bit repetitive as the levels are different in theme and style, but the gameplay is pretty much just one form of action. However, if you want an all-out action pack fun game with a nod to retro titles, this is a quality game.

Overall: 7.5/10
Developer: City Connection

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X (Reviewed) |S

Genre: Arcade

Publisher: Ratalaika Games

Avenging Spirit is a retro classic that was released in 1991; it's an old-school action platformer with a unique twist.

The game starts as a side-scrolling platformer but does include the key feature of making you use platform elements to navigate multi-tiered levels. While these seem like simple gaming elements, it does make the game dynamic more interesting and the platforming elements more enjoyable. I liked the level designs and hidden areas you will encounter as you explore every inch of each level. Level design is rich with plenty to keep you challenged. This wonderfully intriguing story is played out; by Peter and Clara, who are Cambridge academics. This; is a truly interactive gaming experience that has; a consistent cinematic feel throughout. South of the Circle is created by BAFTA winners State of Play; the game does have a pedigree to live up to.

"southofthecircle1"

South of the Circle has this beautiful art style which is fully motion captured. This gives a sense of realism to the whole game, which is complemented; by the superb voice acting and soundtrack. It's wonderful; acting, great storytelling and the player's interactions with the world are nuanced. Deluxe; is offered in markets where cloud streaming isn't available and Premium where cloud streaming is available.

Essential includes PS4 and PS5 monthly games, online play, discounts and cloud storage.

Extra includes Essential Plus the addition of the PS4/PS5 game catalogue.

Deluxe includes Essential and Extra with the addition of PS, PS2, PSP Classic, and PS remaster catalogues.

Premium includes Essential, Extra, and Deluxe with the addition of PS, PS2, PSP, PS3, and PS4 game cloud streaming.

First off, the game catalogue covers mainly Playstation (first-party) titles: however, among the 700 odd titles between the three packages, this will cover a mix of Playstation-made titles and third party too.

Like with the old Playstation Plus package, there is a monthly refresh of PS4 and PS5 titles. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Demon’s Souls, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, and NBA 2K22 are just some of the headline titles you can expect. A more in-depth look at the list of games is available here on the Sony blog.

The new UI for Playstation does categorise game catalogues into distinct sections from an entire game catalogue, monthly games and classic games. I think the sheer amount of games makes it difficult to navigate the huge amount of games, I don't think any service has managed to get the navigation right, but it's a hard problem to solve. The buckets do allow you to navigate to the high-level groups quickly.

"psplus1"

I used cloud streaming for a PS4, PS3 and PS2 game. For Horizon and online streaming, the transfer of saved games and the ability to resume was slick. I did, however, find some graphical issues at times when playing the game, it wasn't 100% smooth, but in general, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance. Classic game streaming, Frogger did work but took a few attempts to get it running. Once it was running, it was good, but I did notice some lag at times. I think there are some teething issues around cloud streaming which will improve over time.

Tekken 2 wasn't streaming enabled but allowed for a download option. It was quick to download and was a throwback to classic 3D fighting games. I can't fault the game. A huge catalogue of PS games from the original PS to the PS4 is available on the Premium Playstation Plus.

The new PlayStation Plus is currently supported on the following devices:

PlayStation 5 console – streaming and game downloads
PlayStation 4 console – streaming and game downloads
PC – streaming only

Overall, I found the streaming service as something interesting as it allows for games to be played on the cloud as opposed to being downloaded locally. This means that you don't need to expand your local hard drive to fully install all the games you play. The transfer of saved games was slick, and quick turnaround times when cloud streaming was working.

There is something for everyone in the various tiers, which makes these new updates a huge feature for Playstation owners.

It must be noted I think this will change the gaming and buying habits of many players. The well-priced yearly subscription will give you access to a plethora of AAA games and everything in between too. Titles such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales signal the quality of some of the games. With standalone titles costing upwards of €80, a yearly subscription seems like a great purchase. If you haven't played some of the classics, you can get them too. I think the quality and depth of games are unsurpassed by any other players on the market.
Developer: The Bworg

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X (Reviewed)|S

Genre: Action

Publisher: Ratalaika Games

TEN (yes - all in capitals) is the game that has ten rooms (levels) that have a ten seconds time limit across ten floors (stages) where you must navigate a series of puzzles. While the premise seems simple, it's far from simple and can be infuriating. Addictively frustrating is the best description that can be coined for this game.

TEN is a side-scrolling fast-paced puzzle game that requires fast wit and reactions. The game has three modes: casual, normal, and "Hell Mode". I found the normal mode hellish enough, but if you need a further challenge, your wish is catered for. If you do find the normal mode too tough and want to navigate the story and the game in general, the casual mode is an awesome feature.

"ten2"

Each room (level) has varying mechanics that you must learn to navigate it's; a case of die and learn, then navigate to the next room where the puzzles get; more complex, and you die even more. The rage can creep in quickly, so some persistence is required, and each stage has a satisfying ending - big huge angry bosses! I loved the bosses and boss levels; a healthy spattering of both helps; to keep the levels novel and makes you want to battle through the countless deaths.

If you do die too much, the game does have the ability to refresh your health which seems to be once per stage run.

"ten3"

Another key feature which adds another depth to the game is the upgrade and skill system, which allows you to somewhat take the edge of the game by enhancing your character. These include better jump, more lives and better ability to avoid bullets etc.

The skill and upgrades are based on the number of coins you collect through the game. These help to reduce the difficulty and incentivises collecting the coins.

"ten4"

A likeness to Super Meat Boy with the saw-related deaths is the obvious comparison but there; are a whole host of other ways to die in this game and different mechanics and storytelling. This game does have a dark and broody vibe throughout the pixelated 8-bit graphics with a distinct lack of colour, giving an awesome visual style to the game. The lack of context at the start of the game, in particular, gives a mystery to the game, which gets fleshed out as your progress through the game. The story is interesting and adds another level to the game; it's intriguing and rewarding in equal measure.

The soundtrack enhances the gaming experience; it's bombastic and loud and adds to the tension in every room. It's absolutely banging music that perfectly accompanies this dark and wonderful game. Sound effects also feel impactful and smack you in the face as you consistently die over and over. Sound production is complementary in all aspects and makes for an even more immersive experience. dBXY Collective are responsible for the soundtrack.

"ten5"

This game is that classic 2D 8-bit puzzle game that has been modernised and made into a great game that's both tough and intriguing. The classic puzzle style mixed with a chunky high adrenaline soundtrack is great high octane fun. The casual mode is a godsend for those who get infuriated! Superb from start to finish and every bit in between.

Overall: 9/10

TEN isn't priced at ten dollars, euros or pounds but is available at £4.99 / $4.99 / €4.99.
;
