It's an extreme sports game that is geared; towards massively multiplayer online play.

"ridersrepublic1"

It's hard to illustrate the entirety of this, huge game but it's an extreme sport adrenaline rush that takes you biking down steep mountains, skiing and snowboarding lush snow-capped mountains to using your wingsuit to fly through canyons and all the other terrains in this game. It's an extreme sports game from the comfort of your couch. The game introduction gives you a taste of each; different sport, and you are, thrown into the deep end. One minute you are biking down a canyon before grabbing a jetpack to reach a snowy peak where you snowboard down the piste. It's all a bit crazy but lots of fun.

Graphically and visually, the game is stunning, the terrain is detailed, and the action-packed game has you on a journey in these vast locations. It has that; Ubisoft polish - menu, map, character, and game type looks superb and detailed. The map is this huge; events are dotted all over the place. Events help you earn stars to unlock more game types and upgrades. At times I found the sheer number of things on the map overbearing. It was hard to discern what were events and online players. It's chaotic at times but, I assume that's what they are going for; I suppose chaotic and extreme sports go hand in hand.

"ridersrepublic2"

Each game type (biking, snowing, skiing, wingsuit jetpack and wingsuit gliding) has its quirks and controls, which you will adapt to. I loved the wingsuit jetpack as it's something I haven't played in a sports game. It gives a wholly unique experience in this wonderfully crafted world. Primarily each game type is race-based where you aim to become the winner, which they have mixed things up by incorporating stunt-based competitions too. There is a star progression mode where you unlock more events as you complete more races/event types. The game has a huge variety of gameplay plus it's incorporated with a massively online experience too.

Like any modern sports game, there is a huge and wide variety of music that acts as a soundtrack to the gameplay. It's an impressive list of music that again illustrates how much thought has been put into giving the game the right vibe and feel.

"ridersrepublic3"

The game is slick from the first second you play it. The game has a clean user experience whilst maintaining a decent amount of information amongst the several game types. It's packed with lots of events and is lots of fun. If you need an adrenaline-based sports game with superb graphics; and a huge online element, this is right up your street.

Online gameplay can handle more than 50 players; there are online leaderboards and cups. There are 6x6 team PvP matchups.

The game runs at 4K 60 FPS on next-gen consoles and can support more than 50 players.

Overall: 7.5/10
Developer: Fossil Games

Platform: PC (Steam)

Genre: Action, RPG

Publisher: Hound Picked Games

Sunshine Manor is an 8-bit retro horror adventure from Fossil Games. It's a prequel to Camp Sunshine which was a cult hit. The game is a mix of dungeon crawler and story-driven RPG. This review is for the PC Steam version which, is available to purchase now; the console versions will be released in 2022.

"sunshinemanor1"

Sunshine Manor is a real throwback to the classic 8-bit dungeon RPG. At first, the bright and wonderfully detailed game looks fantastic and does the 8-bit genre justice. The game does have a spooky and eerie underlying theme that is ubiquitous. It's a heavily story-driven narrative that gives context to the Sunshine Manor and why you are there. You have that classic gameplay as you shift through numerous levels of the mansion. The top-down view with fantastically rendered levels gives me a sense of nostalgia but is used by many indie games still. The dungeons are detailed, and each dungeon has its theme. You play as Ada, and you have to go through a series of dungeons with clues to find out what happened in this mansion. Every dungeon, every character and every clue helps to uncover the mystery of the manor.

"sunshinemanor2"

The game has a timeless retro quality that is easy to pick up and play but has enough to keep you entertained for the duration of the game. It's dark and lots of fun; I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was.

"sunshinemanor3"

The game is a fantastic 8-bit horror RPG that has all the great elements of a 2D game. The storyline is intriguing and adds wonderfully scary and horror themes during the game. Level design is superb and the transition between ordinary and horror levels changes the tone of the game. I loved the unexpected jump scares throughout. The dialogue is superb, and the mix of game mechanics from general dungeon crawling to boss battles adds many variations in gameplay. I love how dark and full of horror the game is. The game executes every element with fantastic detail. It comes in at a super low $5.59 (Switch at the time of review) - $6.99 (PS store) price depending on what platform you are playing, and - $6.99 (Xbox store).

Back in the 90s, the side-scrolling shooter was a staple amongst all consoles; Gleylancer was released on the Sega Mega Drive exclusively in Japan. It had a Wii version in 2008 and is now available on current and next-gen consoles.

"gleylancer1"

Gleylancer follows the classic 2D retro space shooter style where your spaceship navigates through a host of levels while avoiding enemy ships, aliens debris and other nasty objects that will kill you instantly. One hit kills you. As you progress through each level, you collect powers that will transform you from a single shooter to a twin and ultimately a triple shooter spaceship. Your ship shoots a single beam along the x-axis; however, your two supplementary shooters can be rotated 360 degrees to allow you to hit enemies in all directions. There are a plethora of power-ups to pick up that will adjust your playstyle.

"gleylancer2"

Design-wise it compromises the classic side-scrolling levels of a 2D retro platformer but has all the action and mayhem of a shooter. The visuals have that classic 2D feel. The game follows the standard shooter level design whereby you navigate sections and gain powers up as you go along until you encounter a final boss who will require some more shooter skills. Control and game mechanics are simple but lots of fun, the game feels responsive. You feel in total control of your ship as you navigate levels.

Modern-day updates include the ability to rewind, save the state and load the state of the game. The rewind features allow you to replay any point that you may die at, this will happen often; this is very useful due to the difficulty of the game and probably is the only way to finish the game! If you don't use the rewind feature, this game reminds you of the super arcade games with limited continues. If you want a challenge, try it without the rewind feature.

"gleylancer3"

Gleylancer is a wonderful throwback to 2D retro shooters. The game plays awesomely well. It's easy to pick up and play. The modern-day updates include the ability to rewind and save the game. Discovery Tour: Viking Age is a game / educational experience that uses the Assassin's Creed Valhalla game engine and Viking story to help inform the player about the historical and geographical places in which Valhalla takes place. The game comes as a free add on if you have the existing game or can be bought as a standalone game too. It's available on PC now and will be arriving in early 2022 for consoles, Stadia, and Amazon Luna.

The game is stunning; the environments, characters and all visual effects have the hallmark of an Assassin's game. It has everything you expect from the Ubisoft game, but that is expected as it uses the Valhalla engine, landscapes and similar areas. Visually stunning and wonderful to explore.

"DTVA_1"

However, as it is educational, it's Assassin's Creed Valhalla without the violence to be blunt with historians and archaeologists giving context to the world. The emphasis has been placed on getting to know the characters and their surroundings which is everything from boats, people, buildings, rituals, beliefs and the sea. While the game technically has missions, these missions do not involve the killing of Vikings or others as this; is an educational and open-world exploration with an emphasis on learning. You do get all the open world of Assassin's Creed and the feel of level exploration with a deeper context to the Valhalla world. It's an interesting; concept but feels somewhat light compared to the Valhalla game a, bit hollow. I don't think it's trying to be a full-blown game though it's a beautiful world with some educational bits to it.

"DTVA_2"

For the Viking tour, Norway and England are the primary locations that you will learn about. It does give context and some background information to the game. I don't think I'm the target audience of this game so it's not aimed at me.

"DTVA_3"

It's hard to judge this game as such, a lot of the main mechanics in particular the combat elements, are missing. However, the main exploration and quest-based missions are there. It's an Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Lite with some educational elements thrown in. It does allow users to get a better understanding of the world that Valhalla exists in.

You (Dani Rojas) are thrown into the deep end trying to escape the military and police forces of Yara. There is a revolution in the air; you and your guerrilla comrades are ready to fight off Antón Castillo and his evil forces.

Far Cry 6 just extends the current format and gameplay style of Far Cry games. If you are new to Far Cry, it's a huge open world that you play the majority of the time in the first person. You can craft upgrades by collecting resources and upgrading your arsenal as you progress through the game. It's very much a first-person shooter where you have a host of vehicles and horseback to navigate the world.

"FC6_1"

If you have played previous versions, you can see this is an update to the last version with a new storyline and area (Yara) to explore. The game must be thought of as a mercenary style game where you slowly do tasks: take over checkpoints, sabotage the enemy, rob supplies etc... to gain influence over Yara and the inhabitants. It's a massive (I don't think this does it justice) open world that is stunning. You will take pictures and stop to admire the views during the game. It just looks superb, and every time I play, I notice new things. Yara is a tropical paradise that consists of a set of islands with volcanoes, mountains, jungles and beaches. Each aspect of the terrain and surroundings is captured in stunning detail with the addition of animals, the army and police to greet you at every corner.

Ubisoft has done a fantastic job with presentation, menus and general navigation in the game. They understand Far Cry and the little tweaks like quick travel all over the map-reduce the grind of travelling this huge map. The game is polished and has the refinements you expect from a series that has been around for so long.

"FC6_2"

The world is chaotic, action-packed and just mayhem at times. The game runs at dynamic 4K at 60 FPS. The story deals with themes of oppression, nationalism, freedom and authoritarianism. There is a close link to Yara and South American countries and their struggles. This is ubiquitous in the game. The game has a focus on revolutions and days gone by. The main story does capture these themes as well as the struggle of the people. The voice acting and acting is fantastic; it helps drive the story along. The gameplay is more a mercenary style where you play as you see fit to accomplish missions. There is a dichotomy between gameplay and the story. The story tries to paint Antón as a conflicted leader in parts with his son by his side. However, the vast amount of people suffering under his tyranny doesn't tally with any sympathy for Antón.

The game is fun, the explosions, the helicopters and just all-out action are fun. The game doesn't push the envelope in terms of new game-play or new game mechanics, it does Far Cry and first-person shooters fantastically well.

"FC6_3"

Far Cry 6 is extremely enjoyable; there is a lot to do in the world in between the main missions and plentiful side missions. If you have played Far Cry before, you may think this is more of the same. The world and narrative are done well, the ruthless dictator, good versus bad and lots of missions to expand the story. The game is chaotic fun. The crafting isn't overburdening for me which is great; I picked the majority of resources while doing missions and gaining control of the island. There is repetition in taking over key elements from the army but the sheer amount of missions help to break up the repetition of side missions. The game isn't groundbreaking; you have seen all of this done before but, it's great fun with an easy learning curve, you are in and doing missions within a few minutes of starting the game that should be applauded.

Overall: 7.5/10
Developer: Cathuria Games

Platform: PC, Early Access

Genre: Action, Adventure

Publisher: Raw Fury

Dream Cycle is a 3D adventure game from the creator of Tomb Raider, Toby Gard. The option to switch modes is in the menu. Once you decide what view to take, you are on your merry way to explore this labyrinth of levels. Dream Cycle is a mix of a platformer, shooter and stealth game with some magic thrown in for good measure. For the player, this means you can adapt and play the game as suits you. You can go gung-ho or take a stealthy approach. I ended up playing a mix of both to get a feel of your weapons and game mechanics. I found the controls straightforward and intuitive. I liked the mixture of magic and guns. It was jarring at first but grew on me fairly quickly! As you progress through the levels, you gain more magic spells to help you battle the creatures at each dark corner.

"dreamcycle3"

The mix of platform elements, fighting, and shooting constitute the core of the game. There are climbing elements, astral projection, and teleportation to help you navigate through the adventures. The adventures (levels) are short and impactful. You take the approach that best suits the game style you want to use. I loved the exploration and discovery of levels. Levels do have lots of weapons and power-ups to find. I enjoyed the choice of a bow, handgun or machine gun as your choice of ranged weapons, unexpected but fun.

"dreamcycle2"

It is an early access game with the latest patch of 1.1.6 at the time of this preview. I didn't encounter any bugs or issues on my playthroughs. The world and the cel-shaded art style mixed with magic elements provides a wonderful; canvas for Morgan to explore. The game has tons of adventures and levels to navigate. I loved the mix of climbing and traversing terrain while using spells such as astral projection to navigate parts of the level to find the best way to scale huge castles. The environments and graphics are magical and intriguing. I did find the similar enemies a bit repetitive at times. I would have liked a bit more of a story-driven narrative to levels instead of just choosing them from the map. In totality, I enjoyed the game mechanics, the levels and the world. I am looking forward to seeing future updates in this game and what the game will ultimately become.
;

Super Sami Roll is the wonderfully bright platform/action game from indie developers Sonzai games. It's inspired; by a host of '80s and '90s platform games.

Super Sami Roll lands somewhere in between Marble Madness and Super Monkey Ball from a game mechanics perspective. You take the form of a ball that rolls through wonderfully rendered 3D worlds; each section has its theme from deserts to pyramids and a frozen world. I have to say the 3D worlds remind me of Super Mario 64, it's very reminiscent to me, but that's due to the 3D nature of the world full of bright colours and wonderful characters. The map reminds me of Super Mario 3, while the music and splash screens of the levels remind me of Sonic. The gameplay's a mix of Super Monkey Ball and Marble Madness. You guide your character through lush areas to finish the levels and face the boss. Pixel art helps to get across this picturesque world.

"supersamiroll1"

Each section map area has multiple levels where you will have to use your wits and skills to navigate. Game mechanics are introduced; slowly as you progress through levels to allow for some mastery before the; introduction of the next game mechanic. Game mechanics are roll, rob, jump, and grab items. The levels consist of a mix of speed runs and accuracy where you must be precise as opposed to quick; this is layered with platform pieces too. It's a healthy mix of platformer, fast action puzzler, and frantic speed runs. The difficulty can be; changed to cater for how much of a challenge you want.

"ersamiroll2"

While the game is inspired; by a host of platformers and action games, there is plenty in the game that makes it unique. With the numerous game mechanics and the use of various environments, while reminiscent of a host of classic games. There are plenty of unique elements that make it stand on its own feet. You will get annoyed at the odd camera position where your; platform is obstructed by; your camera. It does have a camera issue, like most 3D platformers. The camera angles in 3D platformers have never been perfect and; this is no exception, but this is the only minor teething issue. The soundtrack, level design and sound effects all work well; it has that chaotic sense of fun.

"supersamiroll3"

Super Sami Roll is a bright and fun platformer action game that draws from the past but is, updated for modern gaming. It's chaotic fun with lots of ups and downs. The game has a learning curve that will require you to put in the time, which means it will be challenging but, the addition of varying difficulty means you can cater it; to your needs. I loved playing something; that isn't novel in modern games while being a homage to some classic games.

It's lots of fun and is cheap to buy ($5.59 Switch, $6.99 PS store & $6.99 Xb), well worth the purchase.

Overall: 8/10

The game centres around Morgan Carter and the journey through Dreamlands to get her essence back. Morgan's essence was stolen; by her great-great-grand-uncle, Randolph Carter, who is trying to enslave the Dreamlands for his purposes.

"dreamcycle1"

Dream Cycle can be played in several perspectives first-person, third-person or hybrid of both (dynamic camera angle chooses what it sees as fit).

I am looking forward to seeing future updates in this game and what the game will ultimately become.
;
