RIG 800 Pro is part of the new “Pro Series” of gaming headsets from RIG Gaming. The wonderful people at RIG Gaming sent us the RIG 800 Pro HD (PC version) for review. RIG Pro has been designed to offer gamers unrivalled audio performance when they play. This headset is constructed from flexible, lightweight materials to bring the best comfort to gamers while they play for hours on end. This specific model sells at the price of €199.99, with its other models ranging from €29.99 - €199.99.

The packaging for this headset is very professional. It is a very bulky box as the contents inside are relatively big. The box of this headset comes with a great; overview of the headset in the front. It shows the main features of the headset, this being wireless, the 24-hour battery/charging stand as well as Dolby Atmos compatibility. All the other specifications of the headset are written on the back of the box in 8 different languages. The back clearly labels the different features and parts of the headset this; breakdown acts like a map of the headset. The box includes the following items: the RIG 800 Pro headset, charging stand, USB wireless adapter, USB-A to USB C cable, RIG/Nacon stickers, safety instructions guide, Dolby Atmos guide, a quick start guide and a warranty.

As for the design of the RIG 800 Pro, we find the design to be very clean yet simple, to an extent. The headset does not have much of a colour palette; it's mainly black and grey with slight hints of orange. Though the colour combo goes well with the build of this headset, the look of the headset is like a gear or mechanical type part. This headset is extremely comfortable, and even though it looks like; it may be heavy on the head, it's especially light and flexible. As this is a wireless headset, rather than having padding under the top; headband, there is a slightly padded stretchable band that cups the head nicely. A nice addition to this headset is that you can also adjust the height of the headset (there are three levels the headset can be adjusted to). In addition, the ear padding on this headset has a nice feel to the ear. It feels smooth and soft with some cushion press to it; the padding cups the ears really well and keeps the sound all in. The specifications for this headset are the following: the frequency response is 20 Hz - 20 kHz, the drivers are 2 x Dynamic 40 mm with Matched Bass Tubes for 3D audio, its lag-free is 2.4 GHZ Digital RF, there is an 1800 mAh Battery, the sensitivity is -45 dBV/Pa and the signal to noise ratio is >42 dB, impedance 32ohms, sensitivity 111 dBSPL/V and weigh 308 grams.

This headset has amazing sound quality to it. A range of games was played to see how well this headset sounds with various atmospheric noises and tunes. We played games like Stardew Valley, Slime Rancher, Valorant, Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox and a couple of others. Now for the more heavy games, very FPS heavy-focused games like Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Fortnite, there is really good clarity, and then there is this ‘submersivness’ (as if you are being submerged into the sound) feeling that's is created when you are playing heavy action games. The sound coming through the headset creates an overall chaotic atmosphere, from the loud gunshots to the quiet footsteps of the enemy team. For very casual gaming, the sound is so pleasant and welcoming. Everything can be heard with stunning detail and turns out, into a wonderful; gaming experience just because of the sound.

This headset also comes with a volume scroll on the left ear which can be used to; adjust how loud you want to hear the game. The volume scroll is extremely convenient when playing. What's good about this headset is that even at a low volume, the sound from the outside is muffled out well. This adds that noise cancellation effect to the headset, and with the great comfort of the padded ears, it creates this amazing; gaming experience. The headset has compatibility with Dolby Atmos but also is compatible with Nahimic on the Legion Lenovo laptop, which optimises the headset to give its best sound.

As said earlier, this headset is compatible with Dolby Atmos. To be able to enhance the performance of this headset, you need to download the app called Dolby Access; on the Microsoft store. Then connect your device to activate Dolby Atmos for the headphones. The Dolby Access menu is very easy to work around, so there is not much confusion when trying it out for the first time; this makes it more accessible to people. First off, we tested the audio with the Dolby demo content to see if there is any significant difference we notice in the sound. We started by watching Nature's Fury, and as the video started, it felt like we were sitting in the cinema. The audio compatibility with Dolby transcends sound to another level. It travels the sound from ear to ear and even goes around you. The headset creates a surround sound system in your ear and has stunning, mesmerising sound. Not just this, but afterwards, we tested out; the settings for the headset, which is the equaliser. The headset comes with four pre-set settings: game, movie, music, and voice, and comes with; three custom slots. We ran through using each one of these pre-set settings to see how well Dolby adds to the experience, and it made a huge difference.

For the music pre-set, there is more emphasis; added to the instruments, which create a rich and alluring sound that bounces from one ear to another. The movie pre-set is probably my favourite setting, as it creates an at-home movie theatre feel where it feels like; you are hearing the sound in 4DX. For the music pre-set, there is more emphasis; added to the instruments, which create a rich and alluring sound that bounces from one ear to another. The voice pre-set did not seem to have much change to it, yet it still; had good sound coming. Truly every single sound that travels through this headset is so well-detailed.

This headset comes with an attached bendable mic that can; be lifted up and down. A very convenient feature that the mic has; is automatically muting yourself when the mic is lifted and then unmuting your mic when the mic is brought down to the mouth. The flip-to-mute mic boom works extremely well with this headset as it adds more consistency and is convenient for players as they would not need to mess with too many keybinds to mute/unmute themselves when in a game. Using the flip-to-mute mic boom, there also is; a sound indication to help let you know if you are muted/unmuted as well. Another great thing the headset comes with is a mic control scroll on the left ear of the headset. This; allows for the headset to either pick up everything, every audio coming through the mic or to keep it so only your voice; is picked up. We find the mic control to be very useful, especially when someone on the other call hears your background noise which you do not want to be picked up; the mic control can help adjust that level. The overall quality of the mic is amazing, the voice is picked up clearly, and there is no noticeable delay. The mic also has great adjustability itself, as you can move it closer to the mouth or farther. Your voice picked up from this mic is crisp and clean. The only issue that the mic has is that when the mic control is near the max volume when breathing close to the mic, there is a bit of feedback, but besides that, the mic is just what you would want. Truly acts like a mic on its own.

This headset is mainly designed; for gaming, but we also used this headset to listen to music, watch Netflix or youtube, or even be on call with friends. Due to the design of this headset and the outstanding comforts, the sound encloses and is amazing for when watching movies/shows or videos. The headset has a great sound; to it and really can be used for whatever you want to do, that too over an extensive period without feeling any discomfort. This headset can be used for hours of gaming or watching without any discomfort; you can go about playing with these headsets on without hardly; knowing they are there.

Now there are a couple of ways you can charge the headset. You can charge the headset while it sits on the base station or charges them directly through the headset. Both the headset and the base station have ports that can be used to charge. The headset takes about 7 hours and 30 minutes; to completely charge. There is a light indicator on the base station itself, which, when turned off, means the headset is completely charged. After the headset; is completely charged, you can plug the USB wireless adapter straight into your PC, Mac, PS5, or PS4, and the headset will connect automatically. Because of the direct USB wireless adapter, there is no need for Bluetooth connectivity and allows for great connectivity. There is also a little light on the USB to indicate if the headset is connected if it is, it changes from red to purple. We ran a test to see how long the headset’s battery life lasts, and the headset lasts 29 hours and 46 minutes in total without any charging in between. The headset is to last up to about 24 hours, as said, but an additional 6 hours makes such a difference. The battery life on this headset is exceptional, but also the charging is so readily available as you can just place your headset onto the base station to charge. The headset also has little sound effects, where you are warned when the battery is low, high, or medium through a woman's voice.

The wireless connectivity distance for the headset is not as great. This means; that you cannot, for instance, walk more than 12.5 feet away from your laptop without the woman’s voice on the headset repeatedly saying ‘not connected’. What this means is; it's not best to walk around the house with this headset while listening to music or calling your friends. The headset is mainly just for you to sit in front of your laptop or console and play with it.

Many people may know of the company Skullcandy, and recently they released a gaming headset series of their own. So, let’s compare the SLYR Pro (Multi-Platform wired gaming headset) that sells for the price of €99.99 to the RIG 800 Pro gaming headset that sells for €199.99. There is a PLYR wireless gaming headset by Skullcandy, which sells for €139.99, and this headset is mainly like the SLYR Pro but is wireless.

When comparing the mic, both mics are pretty good. For the SLYR Pro, the mic quality is really and is very similar to the mic quality of the RIG 800 Pro. The RIG 800 Pro has more options to be able to control the level of your mic than the SLYR Pro headset. Personally, a bendable mic boom (which the RIG 800 Pro has) is more beneficial to us than a removable mic boom (which the SLYR Pro has) as it gives more leniency to how someone wants to adjust their mic.

The SLYR Pro are not wireless, but they require a charge to use the equaliser feature to better optimise the sound when gaming. The battery life on the SLYR Pro is 26 hours, except you can still use the headset through the wire. Whereas for the RIG 800 Pro headset, the battery life lasts up to about 30 hours though charging the RIG 800 Pro can be more consistent with its base station.

When comparing the sound quality between the SLYR Pro and the RIG 800 Pro, there is a price difference, but the sound is fair; good on both headsets. Through some comparison tests, I would say that the RIG 800 Pro is better at isolating outside sound and has more clarity. Also, with the compatibility of Dolby Atmos, the sound quality enhances a bit more than its normal sound, which can be heard through more detailed noise that creates an immersive gaming experience that the SLYR Pro does not entirely do. Both of the headsets pick up bass better, and neither has any distortion in the sound. The RIG 800 Pro has a more melodic sound to them. Both of the headsets are tuneful, which gives out good clarity on both.

As for the overall comfort of both headsets, the RIG 800 Pro is more comfortable than the SLYR Pro. The padding on the SLYR Pro and RIG 800 Pro are very similar in feeling and seem; to be made of the same material. The SLYR Pro headset is also made with a different type of material compared to the RIG 800 Pro. There is a bit more weight to the SLYR Pro than the RIG 800 Pro. RIG 800 Pro is more comfortable with its bulky look as it rests lightweight on the head. We would say that the SLYR Pro has better height adjustability than the RIG 800 Pro, as you can stretch the headset out, whereas you have to lock the RIG 800 Pro into ‘sockets’.

Even with the major; price difference, the RIG 800 Pro, in the end, turned out to be very worth it. The reason there is a jump of €100 is that the RIG 800 Pro is wireless, comes with a charging station, and has compatibility with Dolby. These additions and slight differences from the SLYR Pro do make the RIG 800 Pro worth it. The RIG 800 Pro enhances audio performance more than you would expect it; to.

With the headset, we believe everything that was added and made was perfect and that there would not be any suggestions; that we could make. We would only say that design-wise, it would have been nice to have some customization options. Maybe some colour or design choice would have been nice, but other than that, the headset is; very good for what you are paying. We wish that the; headset was compatible with Bluetooth as it would allow better compatibility with other devices such as a phone or iPad/tablet.

The RIG 800 Pro gaming headset is a bulky yet light build with simplicity but enticing sound to create an experience from the comfort of your gaming. With its compatibility with Dolby Atmos, the more stunning and customizable sound is presented to you with great ease. This gaming headset has an amazing flip-to-mute mic boom and easy-access controls built onto the headset; itself. For the price of €199.99, these headsets are truly, worth it and will create immersive gaming; and watching experience like no other. The addition of the; charging base also acts like a stand for your headset, which you can use for display on your gaming setup. If you want an effective, comfortable wireless headset with an appreciable; the sense of surround sound, then definitely go check out the RIG 800 Pro Gaming Headset!

Overall: 9.5/10

The amazing; people at Skullcandy sent us this gaming headset to review. The SLYR Pro wired headset has been designed to introduce premium sound and features for gamers. This headset is constructed from tough and lightweight materials to bring comfort to gamers whilst they play. The SLYR Pro gaming headset sells for €99.99, other models in this series range from €69.99 - €159.99.

The packaging for this headset is bright and extremely colourful. The box displays a picture of the headset at the front and has lots of specifications about the headset around the box. The choice of colours for this box is very complimentary tones going from purple to light blue. The box reminds us of led lights that are placed in a room. The SLYR Pro headset comes in three different colours: black digihype, green digihype, and blue digihype. The box includes the following items: an SLYR Pro headset, removable boom mic, 3.5mm cable (5ft), USB-C to USB-A cable (3ft), and a user guide/warranty guide. The addition of the two sets of cables allows for more compatibility on various devices. Your best friend, when using; this headset, will be the user guide to use all the features offered in this headset.

As for the design of the SLYR Pro headset, we find the design to be a great complementary set of colours, as the colours are not offsetting from one another. These headsets are also comfortable and light. The review headset sent to us was in the colour style of the black digihype. We enjoy the different colours on the headset, and also really like how the wires are different colours from one another yet still match the headset. The padding under the top of the headset also sits well on the head and helps with support. Near this padding is also a nice colourful pixelated design which adds more character to the headset. A really good feature that this headset has is the ability to be able to adjust the height of the headset; this allows different people to get the best comfort and full coverage on their ears. Another nice touch on the design of this headset would be the inner ear parts having a right and left indication by having their initials in a pixelated font. The pixel designs create the gaming look as if it were an 18-bit type of game. We would like to add that the removable mic is very convenient for when you are playing on your own and do not want the mic in your way, so being able to detach is very useful. The padding on the ears is also very smooth and not rough to the ears, which adds more comfort to this headset. The specifications for this headset are the following: The impedance is 32Ω, the driver diameter is 50mm, the THD is 2<%@1KH, the sound pressure level is 95±3dB, the frequency response is 20Hz – 20KHz, enhanced sound perception, clear voice smart mic and the headset weighs 276g.

[caption id="attachment_208617" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]
skullcandyhead[/caption]

This headset comes with great sound quality control by having a built-in equaliser, and even if you are not one to mess around with much that you do not have to, as there are pre-set equaliser settings. First off, we tested the sound quality without messing around with any settings just to see the basics of the headset. We find the sound quality to be surprisingly good when gaming. At the start, we played very FPS-heavy-focused games like Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Fortnite and found that the sound travels well through this headset. For instance, the sound of the gunshots has really good clarity to them and does not need the headset to be at such a high volume. The headset also has a volume scroll on it which adjusts the volume, and what we noticed was that around a certain volume mark, the sound flushed out any outside noise, creating some sense of noise cancellation. Later, we played games like Stardew Valley and Phasmophobia, two very different types of games, and found the sound was amazing, especially in Phasmophobia. Phasmophobia is a horror investigating game, and this headset creates such a good atmosphere with the sound making it seem like you are in the game itself. Something about the sound that felt a bit off was that one ear seemed to be at a lower or higher volume compared to the other ear, yet we found later that this could be adjusted in the Skull-HQ app. A quick thing about the sound that we had noticed, which was interesting as a feature, is how when using two different apps, like discord for calling and Valorant for just playing over the top of one another. The volume of the call in discord would be much louder than in the game.

As a suggestion for anyone who plans on using this headset, especially for gaming on the PC, we prefer you to use the USB-C to USB-A cable as the sound quality seems slightly better through that cable than the other one. The only thing with this cable is that there seems to be static noise when nothing is, being played, which can be annoying to hear.

We used to use wired earbuds that would have a detachable mic to them as well. When putting the headset on for the first time and using it on call, the person on the other end of the call said there was a major difference in the clarity of my voice. Of course, earbuds differ from a headset, but if the difference was major for someone to notice clarity in an instance means that the mic has good quality to them. We also ran little mic tests to check how good the mic is. First, off the mic is a bit farther away from your mouth but picks up sound and your voice extremely, well.

This is great as even if you whisper, the sound gets picked up, so gaming late at night will not disrupt the rest of the house. The mic also has a feature where you can directly mute yourself from the headset itself. To be able to use this feature, you have to turn the headset on and use it while it’s on. The voice indication for the mute button is also really good, as it helps let you know if you are or are not muted.

On top of mainly just using the headset on the laptop for gaming, we tried using the headset on an iPad and a Samsung phone. First off, both of these devices no longer have an aux input, so we had to use a USB-C to Aux input converter to use the headset on the devices. Mainly when using the headset on the phone and the iPad, we listened to a series of music and watched videos on youtube/Netflix. The headsets are called to be gaming headsets, but you can easily use them when on another device as well. The sound is extremely clear, there were some slight static noises, but we believe that was due to the aux converter rather than the headset itself. Even for watching videos or listening to music, the sound is amazing. The earpads fitting around the ear create a noise-cancellation atmosphere. After the phone and iPad, we also used the headset on the Xbox. We used a Bluetooth controller and connected the headset through the aux cable. First, off the sound quality through the controller was picked up extremely well; everything was clear to hear, and there was no delay in any of the sounds. In addition to that, the mic picks up sound well through the controller when using Xbox party or using in-game voice chat. Overall the sound and mic quality for the headset is very good.

The headset offers many different modes which can be tested out through the Skull-HQ app. We downloaded this on a PC to test out the different EQ modes. The app can easily be downloaded through the Skullcandy website. To connect the headset to the app, you use the USB-C to USB-A cable. To turn on the equaliser on the headset: there is a switch, and when the equaliser is on, there is a woman's voice indicating if the headset is connected, on or off. The voice indication makes it much easier to know when it is working.

This is our first time working with an equaliser, and the homepage of the Skull-HQ app makes it so easy and sufficient to work around. The battery life of the headset is displayed next to the icon of the headset. Many different dials help with adjusting the volume. Earlier, when we were talking about the difference in volume in each ear, through the app, you can pretty much change the volume settings for each ear, as well as change the volume proportions for when in-game and voice calls. You can also run an enhanced sound perception (E.S.P) test, which allows you to configure your headset to hear every detail of sound.

#1 [SUPREME MODE]: Supreme mode is pretty much just default mode; this is where none of the settings have been messed around with. The sound is really good for this but does not have many changes to it.

#2 [MUSIC MODE]: For music mode, there is more bass added to the music, and overall, the volume is a bit louder than usual but other than that, there is not much of a change from the supreme mode. Though listening to music on this headset is good as, the instruments and vocals are all really clear and defined.

#3 [MOVIE MODE]: Movie mode also sounds very similar to supreme mode; the only difference is that the volume is slightly louder. Music and movie modes sound very similar to one another as well. Either way, the sound is very good when listening to a movie.

#4 [PODCAST MODE]: Usually, we do not listen to podcasts, but for this test, we listened to an episode of the Distractables by Markiplier. For podcast mode, there is more ‘bright’ to the noise, whereas there is not much dullness to the sound.

#5 [FPS MODE]: From the default preset, the FPS mode adds more depth to the sound, meaning that the sound is deeper. Also, there is a great difference in how the footsteps travel in this FPS mode, you can clearly hear the footsteps, and if the footsteps are over sand, the crunch can be heard, and the farther away the footsteps, the more depth in the sound is created. You can also hear the footsteps travel from one ear to the other when the character in-game moves sides. Over the supreme sound mode (default mode), we prefer this one a lot more when playing an FPS game. The gunshots are slightly more clear but also have a pushback to them.

#6 [RPG MODE]: As for the RPG mode, there seems to be more heightened sound compared to the other modes. This mode creates a good in-game atmosphere as you can hear your surroundings, and the noise travels from ear to ear.

#7 [MMO MODE]: For the MMO mode, there is also more depth added to the sound this; creates more atmosphere, which is similar to the RPG and FPS mode. We would say that the three game-related modes are similar; to each other, but for some, the noise is heightened or dulled down. This does not mean that the sound comes across as bad. We find that the sound for each of these modes goes well.

#8 [CUSTOM EQ MODE]: There is also a custom EQ mode, which we did not mess around with too much, but this allows people to find their preference in sound giving, more variety to the quality of sound the headset gives.

The battery life on the headset goes for using the equaliser. Now, if you use the USB-C to USB-A cable, the headset charges as it is being used, which is very efficient, but when fully charging the headset, which takes roughly 2 hours, and draining the battery to 0% last about 26 hours. When we ran the test for the battery life, there were some hiccups that showed up on the EQ mode app with the battery life, as sometimes the battery is less and boosts up to a lot more in the span of seconds. We would say, though even; though the hiccups show, the battery life on this headset is outstanding. For using it to a minimum or maximum, setting the battery life can last up to about 23-26 hours of gaming with no interruptions.

We have to say that the Skull-HQ app is made perfectly. It is not overcrowded and has everything that is needed, with simplicity. Everything on the app is well-defined and easy to work around, and even if you are new to working with equalisers, it is great to start here. This gaming headset it was hard for us to properly compare this to another gaming headset. We do own a gaming headset, but it is much cheaper compared to this headset which would not be a great comparison.

There are a few things here and there that could be taken into account for future reference. First off, this may be different for everyone's preference, but we would like for the detachable mic to be bendable. This would allow for the mic to be closer to the mouth or further away. We like when the mic is closer and believe this tiny design feature can make the mic even better. In addition to this, if you are someone who wears glasses and is using this headset, they are a bit uncomfortable, as the headset seems to be pushing back on the glasses. If there is some way; that can create more adjusting ability to the headset itself, that could help with the glasses issues. We would also like to say for someone who wants to get this headset for the console and has no access to a laptop, it, maybe better to release the Skull-HQ app on the phone. So, more people can mess around with sound settings if the default ones don't suit them.

The best feature of this wired gaming headset is its compatibility with the Skull-HQ app. Not just that, but as well as it's compatible with many different devices as well (The inclusion of the two cables makes this good to work with). It is even great how on the headset; even when using it on a different device, you can use the EQ modes through a button on the headset. The SLYR Pro gaming headset has a great simplistic yet stunning design that can match anyone's gaming set-up as well as brings a pop of colour. The headset is light and comes with many great features that you can ask for in a gaming headset. Because of their compact and comforting earpads, these headsets can be used for hours on end for gaming with little to no discomfort. This gaming headset comes with many great features and has such; as a good mic and sound quality. God of War Ragnarök continues from the last game, where you are immersed in the immersive story of Kratos and Atreus. For those who haven't played God of War or can't remember the plot from the last game, a handy recap gives you an overview of the last; game which was much needed by me.

Ragnarök on the PS5 does utilise the power of the console, and from the first action, you see the world of God of War in stunning detail from the characters, level design, enemies, and surroundings are precise and pristine. It takes your breath away, and throughout the, entirety of the game, you are surprised and just in awe of the fantastic screenshot-laden game. I mean, the first impressions do; set the tone for the whole game, and it doesn't disappoint. It's very hard; to find any visual defects in the game; the landscapes and the variety of environments are stunning. I loved the transition from dark colosseum-like structures to open-world beaches, underwater levels, and much more. The game seamlessly brings the player through the story to playable parts, the game has a more immersive feel, and you feel a part of the story.

The cinematics throughout the game is further enhanced by the wonderful music score and sound effects. The superb music enhances every boss fight and cinematic piece. This is enhanced through the controller's haptic feedback, thinking of extra texture throughout the game.

Gameplay centres on using Kratos in this sandboxed environment which isn't an open world. This, means that levels are very structured, and God of War has made intricate levels that are wonderful to explore and find things. Levels are even more intriguing when you must use Atreus and work as a team to solve puzzles and progress further in the world. I didn't feel burdened and bored at any point when doing missions or side missions which just; made the game more enjoyable.

You can build your skill tree and upgrade your armour and weapons to customise; to your play style. The combat is superb; levelling up helps you get additional combos and move sets.

The weapon choices do give a richer; and deeper gameplay feel. Each weapon will affect how you play and how you level it up. I loved the diverse power-up options. The shields are intriguing; some shields are designed as big huge shields that; block, whereas others are more nimble and rely on parries.

Boss fights add another depth to the gameplay; you fight a mixture of Gods, Creatures, and the undead. Each boss battle requires you to approach the fight strategically, and button-bashing won't help! Some of the bosses are huge and impressive in scale. The mini-bosses and random bosses appear throughout the exploration of the world.

Game Length and playtime will be up to 40 hours, but this really depends on how many of the side quests; and if you decide to collect every trinket in the game. This, is a ballpark figure, and if you are taking your time as I did, it's easily a much longer and richer experience. There is a real timeless quality to the exploration in the game; it never seems like a chore; this includes the side missions. The side missions are as rewarding and interesting as the main missions too!

It's hard to find a more complete game in terms of gameplay, storytelling, and just all-out fun. It stays faithful to the storytelling and general awesomeness of God of War (2018) but is bigger, bolder and; is a beautiful next step in the journey of God of War. God of Ragnarök has this wonderful cinematic element that underpins the entire game, the transitions from a narrative-based story to solving puzzles and ultimately beating huge enemies. The game has this beautiful flow, and I ended up losing hours in the game where I was so immersed that I didn't feel the time go by. Ragnarök achieves this wonderful timeless immersion through fantastic level design, great storytelling, believable characters, stunning visuals, and amazing action rolled into one. The buddy team of Kratos and Atreus just makes the story and gameplay more involved to the player without making it seem like a standalone one-player.

Overall: 9.5/10

Developer: Goody Gameworks

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X (Reviewed) |S

Genre: Action

Publisher: Headup

Gigapocalypse is a wonderful homage to the classic Rampage games of the late 80s. Other inspirations for the game are King Kong and Godzilla. It's a side-scrolling 2D pixel art destruction game you; choose your "Giga '', a prehistoric creature \\ monster whom you control to destroy the many stages of the game. It's a wild all-out action game.

Before you get into the action, you must choose your monster (Giga) of choice. Once you select your monster, you can customise and pick what items you want to upgrade. More options to upgrade become available as you play through the game. The rouge-like elements of the game allow you to unlock more items as you progress and die through each stage.

While the game does take inspiration from Rampage, it doesn't have a lot of key mechanics; it has its mechanics. You march your monster and use your melee or special attacks to wreak havoc on each stage. It's an action-packed side-scrolling shoot 'em up and mash-up game. You control your monster, and you customise your power-ups to destroy buildings and everything else in your way, little; people beware. The game has fantastic 2D pixel art that gives a glorious retro feel to the game. Music and sound effects evoke classic retro games too. It's a wonderful, updated version for modern players. This review was done; playing on the PC. Voyage will be coming out for consoles on August 12th. From the many games that I have played, I have never come across a game like this one.

Voyage can be played cooperatively or by yourself. You start in a dimmed place with water on the ground and broken statues behind you. There are two characters on the screen, one with pink hair and the other with white hair. When playing single player, you have the opportunity to switch between the characters(in the single player mode, the AI assists you with the other character); the characters support each other by pushing large objects into place; or by giving them a boost up a ledge. You interact with your surroundings through a whimsical world, making your way to end your journey.

The controls for this game are very simple, and I love the keyboard pop-up at the start of the game. As you go to press the buttons, they highlight on the in-game keyboard to help you get used to the controls. The game does not bombard you with controls either; it has four base controls alongside the directional keys.

The art style of this game is fantastic and is so pleasing to look at. The game looks like a 3D game. Voyage is a 2D side-scrolling game and does such a great job captivating the player to enjoy a peaceful and calm environment. It is interesting to see the way; the background and different locations have been styled, giving a magical, enchanted feeling.

The style of the game looks like it belongs in a cartoon tv show that you watch and instantly fall in love with, reminds me of a show called Steven Universe. In addition to the background, the way the layering; is done to create the various areas you come across is done seamlessly. For example, in the forest, there is a treetop layer at the front and fog at the back with layers built over each other to create such great detail. The little dragonflies, fireflies, buffalos, and just the simplicity of how they are designed and added to this game are wonderful.

Everything about this game is so calm and relaxing, and the distinct sound effects and music make everything so much better. The background music has some similarities to Studio Ghibli music which creates a tranquil, mystical atmosphere. Walking over water even makes the most subtle peaceful sound. The visuals and sound effects complement one another.

I enjoyed this game so much, as it was something to sit back and wind down to. There are so many various aspects of this game that I loved. My personal favourite part would have to be the boat ride, as you watch the characters ride a boat and just admire their surroundings.

This game is, in many ways, soothing and has outdone itself with all of the art components. Soothing has outdone itself with all of the art components. There are even additions of simple puzzles where you need to be aware of your surroundings and even intriguing lore. I do wish the game was a bit longer, though. On top of that, I found the hug feature to be; a very cute touch; a game truly, like no other! If you want a game where you can sit back and enjoy a subtle little side-scrolling game, beating it either by yourself or with a friend, Voyage is the game to check out. While these seem like simple gaming elements, it does make the game dynamic more interesting and the platforming elements more enjoyable. I liked the level designs and hidden areas you will encounter as you explore every inch of each level. Level design is rich with plenty to keep you challenged. Each new environment introduces more lethal elements that you must navigate. The other unique mechanic is the ability to turn into an avenging spirit and take over another character when you die. This feature is novel but adds so much richness to the game too. The player is required to use the new character and learn their move set. Each level progresses to a boss battle.

Game controls and mechanics are reminiscent of classic platformers; controls are intuitive and tight. The game is responsive to inputs, and you feel in full control throughout. The platforming mechanics are superb, and it's a joy to relive these classic platformers. I love playing games like this and reliving a whole different generation of gaming. The old-school retro midi soundtrack just takes you back to retro heaven; the big brass hits pang out loudly. The groovy music helps to illuminate the game.

Modern-day updates include the ability to rewind, save the state and load the state of the game. The game is merely focused on different escape rooms. The game is developed by Coin Crew Games. Escape Academy is different; in its own sense but has a similar premise to the Escape Simulator game, which also is an escape room game.

The game can be played either by yourself, locally with a friend or online. We played this game on PC; locally. It brought up a menu where you can select one player to be on the keyboard and another on a controller. To make sure that the game registers both players first, start on the keyboard, then press start on the controller. It seems that if; you press the controller first, the game does not let player one sign in. This game can be heavily focused on teamwork to help successfully escape the rooms before the rooms flood, get filled with poisonous gas and loads more.

The main focus of this game is that you, as the player, are an amateur escapist, and you are going through various types of escape rooms which capture the immersive experiences of how it feels to be put, under a time-pressure, just like when you are; put in one in real life. You start off in a room and right away try to find your escape. The game introduces other characters who play out dialogue to explain what is happening at the academy. Alongside your escaping, there is a; bit of a story which guides you through the academy. There are three chapters, and you are training to become the ultimate escape room master.

The controls for both the; controller and keyboard/mouse are very easy to work with. Controls also show up on the bottom left-hand side of the screen. A very important; control feature in this game would have to be the hint feature. The hint presents you with pictures of certain areas in the specific room to indicate where something may link with. The cooldown on the hint feature is also reasonable, making it so that the player does not constantly spam for the hints, which would ruin the experience.

We really like how the characters are drawn out; for this game. The art style is; very unique and can be said to look cartoonish though with a realistic factor to it. It is also very interesting; how there are different styles for each character, from when you see them in-game to their design for the speech box. Each room; also has a different theme and the lighting effect creates the academy ambience. It gives off very harry potter, mistress, and academy vibes. The map also has various places which you can unlock to further go into. The map also looks great for a game, giving an overview of the academy as well as looking clean and bright.

In addition to the art style, the audio of the game; is also done well. The voice acting for the characters makes the game more atmospheric compared to there only being text to read. The audio can also be clues making that an essential part of the game too. The game developers using the voice acting to be a clue for certain areas of the escape room is creative. The sound effects for the game, the footsteps of your character, the little bleep noises when pushing buttons, and the success key noises, all work well together to make things feel more realistic.

Compared to other escape room games, which act as simulators, this game does a much better job to captivate the immersive experience and rush of how an escape room truly is. We personally; have gone to escape rooms in real life, and the game does a good job at honing in on your skills to be alert, collaborative, and become a better puzzle solver. With the difficulty increasing as you progress through the game, things start to get more intense, and you feel more in a hurry to solve the room. We personally liked the Tea n Tea room. I thought the radio was an amazing place to leave a clue. Throughout the rooms, we found many creative ways clues were left and how the escaping was repeated as much, thus giving new ways to solve locks and doors to get out.

If you are looking for a mind-challenging game which you can either play by yourself or with a friend, then this is the game for you. The game challenges your teamwork skills as well as puts you under pressure to escape within a given time. South of the Circle is created by BAFTA winners State of Play; the game does have a pedigree to live up to.

South of the Circle has this beautiful art style which is fully motion captured. Even though the game is animated, it doesn't detract or make the story less believable but enriches the gaming experience. Every voice actor is superb and does make the story more believable. It's wonderful; acting, great storytelling and the player's interactions with the world are nuanced.

This; is a wonderfully amazing experience that traverses all kinds of emotions while keeping you on the edge of your seat. The voice acting and emotional narrative make this game. The setting of the Cold War paints a background and setting where you become immersed and lost in the story. This game needs to be experienced and enjoyed, it's hard to say how gripping I found it, but I couldn't put it down once I started playing it. I found the trailer for the game intriguing, and the game exceeded my expectations.

Overall: 9/10
Developer: BLOODIOUS GAMES

Platforms: PC (Reviewed), PS4, PS5, Switch (July 29th), Xbox Series X |S

Genre: Adventure, Horror, First-person

Publisher: Perp Games

MADiSON is a first-person psychological horror game. This game is developed by BLOODIOUS GAMES. Games similar to this game include Outlast; and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

You start trapped in a room full of distraught and bloody pictures. You find yourself making your way through your grandparents' house and come across some horrific situations. You pick up an extremely handy tool, an instant camera, which helps you through puzzles to get out of the hands of the spectral spirit, Madison. It's a pure puzzle game that features no combat, unlike the combat found in games such as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

The controls for the game are very straightforward when playing on the PC. It is very useful how the game shows highlights of the controls at the bottom of the screen when interacting with items. If the game did not have this feature whilst walking throughout the house, it would take much longer for the player to find what item they are looking for. Thus, making this feature extremely important. On the other hand, using the mouse to open the doors can be a bit frustrating. The control for the door or opening handles has a bit of weird pull back, which makes things slightly difficult.

The visuals of the game resemble another first-person horror game by the name of Outlast. The visuals are not as gory as you would think, but they are realistic. Tiny details like the cockroaches, the clocks and many other items bring the game more to life and are extremely compelling to look at. The minimal lighting brings the overall playing of the game harder, yet it puts the instant camera to a lot more use due to its flash. After using the instant camera in certain places like, for example, the picture of the man in the corridor. The effect that plays after using it, which is an intense screen shake and loud thump; leads to a change. Using the camera creates this horrifying, lurking atmosphere when playing. The game is played best during the nighttime, with the lights turned off.

The game truly is best played with headphones on. Many sound effects like glass breaking, the creaking of the doors, and the creaking of the wooden floor add to the dreadful, paranoiac atmosphere. The voice acting done for the character makes the game even more captivating to play. The visuals coincide with the sound effects. We find the voice acting to be an essential part of this game-making; it so much better.

Unlike some other games where jumpscares tend to be finicky or predictable, this game does a good job when it comes to jumpscares. Our favourite jumpscare that caught us completely off guard was one found in a well and another in a corridor of the house. The jumpscares throughout this game are done well and do not compare to other games which have jumpscares that you can see coming. The difficulty of the puzzles increases as you progress in the game, meaning you need to pay close attention to your surroundings.

Something about the game that we enjoyed was the whole story-driven aspect and being able to walk around taking pictures with the instant camera. We found the instant camera to be such an interesting feature of the game, which made it different from other horror games. The idea of the instant camera opening up new areas and helping get deeper into the game is done wonderfully. We would want the door mechanic to be fixed up a bit, as it seems slightly stiff. Also, it is interesting how you can take many pictures without running out of film!

If you are looking for an atmospheric well, story-driven horror game with aspects of puzzling and using a surprising well mechanic, which is the instant camera. This game is then just for you. For horror game lovers, and even if you want to try out a really good horror game on its own, then definitely give MADiSON a try!

Overall: 8/10
;
