The QPAD Obsidian Glass Mousepad is a premium hard surface mousepad designed for gamers who prioritise speed, consistency, and long-term durability. Made from tempered glass with a no-slip rubber base, it is built to deliver an exceptionally smooth surface and glide whilst still maintaining precise sensor tracking. QPAD had kindly sent out the QPAD Obsidian Glass mousepad for us to test out, which retails at £99.99.
The QPAD Obsidian Glass mousepad is constructed with a tempered glass surface paired with a non-slip rubber base, delivering a premium hard-pad experience for durability and speed. This is a 420 x 420 mm with a 4 mm thickness mousepad that offers a generous square space, giving players plenty of room for both high and low sensitivity gameplay without feeling too restricted. The size of the mousepad may be an issue for some gaming set-ups, especially if they have smaller desk space, so future sizes could always be implemented later on. The mousepad weighs 1500 g; this mousepad feels extremely solid and planted on the desk, eliminating any unwanted movement even during intense gameplay. It almost feels as though it is glued to your desk, which is solid. The hard surface provides a smooth, fast glide that works seamlessly with both optical and laser sensors, ensuring consistent tracking across the entire pad.

The mousepad arrives in a large, square-sized retail box that immediately gives off a premium vibe. Inside, the pad is carefully wrapped to prevent scratches. In terms of design, the Obsidian Glass Mousepad is sleek and minimalist. The surface features an almost transparent, darkish, polished glass finish that looks clean and modern, while the rubberised base underneath holds the pad firmly in place, thanks to its weight.
The actual print on the mousepad is similar to the QPAD Edge Mousepad, which features a topographic map-style pattern with wavy lines and symbols. The black background with contrasting white lines gives it a clean, modern look. The tempered glass finish on top of the design gives a frame-like hollow look, which stands out nicely with your gaming setup.

Once I started using the mousepad, the first thing I noticed was just how fast it is. I was using a relatively light mouse and found that the sensitivity paired with the mousepad was too responsive. When I had used the mousepad with a heavier mouse, it was a much nicer pairing, and sensitivity was easily adjusted to make the mouse performance feel weighted and better.
The glass coating significantly reduces resistance, allowing for effortless tracking and rapid directional changes. Despite its speed, it still offers enough control to prevent it from feeling slippery or uncontrollable. That said, due to the hardness of the glass surface, it does take some time to adjust if you are coming from using a cloth pad. Though I will say the change between using a cloth mousepad and a glass mousepad is substantial, in an excellent way.

The quality is where this mousepad truly shines. The tempered glass feels extremely durable, spill-proof, and resistant to long-term wear. Unlike cloth pads, it will not fade or develop stains and spots over time. The rubber base is reliable and prevents any unwanted movement during intense gaming sessions. It is also highly resistant to dust and moisture, making maintenance for this mouse pad extremely easy. Giving it a quick wipe will make it look brand new and give the pad a good shine.
After using this mousepad for quite some time now, especially on a regular day basis, I believe that the QPAD Obsidian Glass Mousepad is a top-tier choice for gamers who value exceptional precision and long-lasting durability. In comparison to a cloth mousepad, the mouse is not weighted down but rather feels like it’s floating, which makes it perfect for fast reactions. The premium feel, consistent performance, and resistance to wear make it a compelling upgrade from the standard cloth mousepad. I mean, who would think that they would need a glass mousepad until they have actually tried one out?

However, the ultra-fast glide may not suit every player, especially those who prefer slower, more controlled surfaces. As said previously, I do wish there were more size options available because the design for this mousepad is long-lasting, so a rectangular or smaller version may fit better. On my setup, the square shape looks slightly awkward, but that is more of a personal preference rather than a dealbreaker.
If you are looking to upgrade your setup with a mousepad that prioritises consistency, speed, and long-term durability, the QPAD Obsidian Glass Mousepad is worth considering. Its premium tempered glass surface delivers an ultra-smooth glide that feels perfect for fast-paced and competitive gaming, while the non-slip base firmly locks it in place. Built to last and easy to maintain, this mousepad will not wear down and keep your setup looking modern and clean. The QPAD Obsidian Glass Mousepads are a solid upgrade that stands out.
