Cat Mail Co. Review

Developer: Maracas Studio

Platform: PC (Reviewed)

Genre: Simulation

Publisher: Maracas Studio, Gamersky Games

Cat Mail Co. is a cosy indie game that combines wholesome storytelling with a charming art style. Instead of saving the world or defeating enemies, you play as adorable cats working as mail carriers whose goal is to deliver letters while connecting communities. Together with your friends, you inherit a chaotic cat-run postal service, sorting mountains of parcels, helping island residents, and uncovering a mysterious story hidden within the undelivered mail. The game is developed and published by Maracas Studio, alongside Gamersky Games.

The story follows a group of lovable cats working for the local mail service, delivering letters across colourful regions filled with quirky characters. As you complete deliveries, you discover that the previous postmaster mysteriously vanished. As you continue processing the mail, strange clues begin to emerge, gradually revealing the mystery behind the missing postmaster.

During the day, the game feels like a cosy management simulator. At night, moonlight reveals hidden truths about certain packages, adding a supernatural mystery that slowly unfolds through the mail itself. It’s a clever way of telling a story without interrupting the gameplay.

The core gameplay loop is incredibly satisfying, from unloading parcels from the daily boat to weighing, stamping, applying labels, sorting deliveries by destination, organising shelves and storage, and loading outgoing shipments. The pacing is relaxed and encourages players to take their time instead of rushing through tasks. The gameplay is straightforward while still allowing you to figure things out for yourself, perfectly complementing the cosy atmosphere. Best of all, you can play with up to four players in co-op.

The controls are responsive and easy to learn, with smooth movement that makes the game accessible for players of all ages and skill levels. Picking up boxes, rotating them, placing labels, and moving items around the post office all feel intuitive and satisfying.

The soundtrack perfectly matches the game’s relaxing atmosphere. Soft acoustic melodies, gentle piano themes, and calming background music create a peaceful experience that makes the game incredibly enjoyable. The sound effects, from stamping parcels to making deliveries, are subtle yet satisfying, with the music beautifully complementing the overall experience.

Cat Mail Co. uses a colourful, cartoon-inspired art style filled with anthropomorphic cats and warmly lit environments. The post office is packed with visual details, from overflowing shelves to handwritten labels, giving the world a genuine lived-in charm. The bright visuals also make co-op play easy to follow, even when four players are working together in the same space.

What makes Cat Mail Co. special is how it turns ordinary work into a relaxing social experience. Sorting packages shouldn’t be this entertaining, yet the combination of cooperative teamwork, cosy presentation, and an intriguing mystery makes it surprisingly difficult to put down.

This game can be easily enjoyed with friends, as you can get up to four players to play cooperatively. We are thankful to have been provided codes to play with a team who had a few things to say about the game. Vroggo had the following to say, “Players play as a cat who works at the post office, hence the name “Cat Mail Co.”. The aim of the game is to organize and sort out parcels into the shelves, ship packages onto a boat that are to be sent out from our post office, or help our feline clienteles find their parcel for them. The game can be played solo or with friends via online-coop, and I found neither experiences to be lagging or with bugs.

The game itself is very systematic and stress-free. There is no timer or rush mechanic to completing activities, and the soft visuals of the game also help us feel that. There is a whole process to follow built into the game that makes doing a chain of small activities familiar and hence cosy. For example, parcels need to be stamped, weighed, and scanned accordingly when we receive them from our clients before being sorted into the shelves and shipped out at night.

Sometimes clients come in with weird descriptions for finding their parcels, and that can make players wonder. It can be a huge appeal for the game. For every parcel handled, there could be a story behind it. Cat Mail Co. has a really big leeway for letting players see snippets of beautiful stories behind all the handling, sorting, and shipping of parcels, and I would love to see more of them in the game.

I am excited for where this game goes in the future and would overall rate my experience as an 8/10.”

Sapphire had the following to say, “Cat Mail Co. was a calming experience that is filled with feline friends who make this game enjoyable. I thought that the game evolved quite nicely from new mechanics, stamps and locations unveiling on a day-by-day basis. I thought that the multiplayer aspect of this game did not feel overwhelming at all, as players could easily split tasks among themselves, from organising the mail by various locations to giving away packages to the customers to stamping the necessary stamps. The game has a great gameplay loop that you can easily find yourself invested in.

There was so much that I enjoyed about this game as it gave me some peace of mind. I would find myself rearranging boxes so it would be easy to read names, to storing them in the correct shelves so others could find what was needed. The aesthetic of the game is even more charming, and being a cat is just adorable. I will say that sometimes some of the mechanics seemed a bit unclear on how you were meant to approach them, but it’s easy enough to comprehend.

Cat Mail Co. is definitely relaxing: it’s a pleasure to play as you do not need to feel rushed and can take everything calmly. You can easily complete tasks as they come and learn new things that will keep the game interesting. I really enjoyed playing the game with friends as we all took on a role that made it feel like we were truly managing a post office.”

It won’t appeal to players looking for fast-paced action or competitive gameplay, but if you enjoy games like PowerWash Simulator, Unpacking, or Overcooked! (without the stress), Cat Mail Co. is an easy recommendation.

Overall: 8/10
