Cast n Chill is a calm fishing sim that has doubled as an idle but active pastime, developed and published by Wombat Brawler. Released June 16th, 2025, it’s been celebrated and known as a laid-back game that allows it to be played while being able to relax.
This is a single-player game where you progress through different environments, catching different types of fish for different amounts and upgrading your equipment throughout the game. At the same time, working towards legendary catches and enjoying the natural world.
The controls to this game are very simple. For more activity, you cast, hook and reel yourself, all done with the mouse. And when a fish fights back, you ease your controls and mimic patience that can be seen in a real fisher. You can play with the controller or mouse, but the controls are simple, allowing it to be played with both the mouse and keyboard and the controller. The idle mode that can be put on in settings allows auto-fishing while you’re doing something else, which is perfect for multitasking and relaxing deeply.Â
The art style and visuals of the game are extremely polished. The backgrounds and colours all blend so peacefully and create satisfaction for the players. Water reflections, changing of the day and lights, animals and plants create calm scenery without being overstimulated. The attention to detail on the plants, animals and backgrounds, such as fish silhouettes under the surfaces, animals gliding, and your dog sitting along you on the boat. Personally, I find the fame to be very cute looking and elegant with extremely lovely little details. The art style of the game is the main reason for its success. The idea of the logbook is to help find bait and unlock different fishes that help to progress your fishing and make it easier to catch the higher-cost fishes.
The audio is the unsung hero in the game; the ambient sounds of birds, water laps, hums and other little noises mimic the realness and calmness of fishing and being a fisher, creating an immersive environment. The art style and soundtrack complement each other to create peaceful harmony.
Honestly, it’s a really good game that I’m able to play while I’m relaxing and watching a show. The only thing I wish was a bit different was maybe the idea of being able to fish a bit faster, as I can be sitting for minutes on end trying to catch fish with my bait, which just won’t work. This game is truly amazing. The cartoons and colours really make it worthwhile. The only downsides of this game, for me at least, would be that it takes me a really long time to catch fish, and some refuse to interact even in their close proximity to the fishing rod. But other than the slow catching, it’s truly a wonderful game. If you want to relax and don’t want a mind-numbing game, please play this lovely game.
