Summary:

We start off with Conan at a bar, awaiting his next adventure while the title card drops on the first few pages: “Emerald Waters Part I”. The first pages introduce Gonar, a seer and a predecessor of the Picts, an enemy group that Conan normally runs up against. Later on in the story, we see the story split into two points of view: the point of view from the barbarian Conan and from a former soldier who finds himself in Chinatown. That man’s name is Stephen Costigan.

Both men are caught captive by mysterious women that lead them away to somewhere when they are caught between defending themselves and protecting the woman that led them away. The woman reveals herself as Zuleika, and the story continues as the men’s stories intertwine.

This story starts off at a different pace and point of view, which I think will hook the Conan readers to add this title to their collection.

Overall: 8/10
