We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie is the second game in the Katamari Damacy series that has; been remastered with better gameplay and graphics! The game; is mainly focused on a story-rich game where you roll up katamari for many katamari-loving fans. There is no game that’s very similar to Katamari REROLL as it has such a unique gameplay style. We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie is developed by MONKEYCRAFT Co. Ltd. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. This review is done for the PC version of this game, but the game is available for PlayStation, Switch and Xbox.
We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie is a single-player game where you play the boyhood of King of all Cosmos by rolling up a bunch of katamari with many different levels. After you’re brought; onto the map, there are many different characters in which you can roll katamari up to a certain length to keep making it bigger and bigger until the objective; is reached. There is also a dual mode that you unlock after you play some levels. In this, you unlock the two-player local co-op mode, where you and another player get to roll the same katamari ball together.
As the game; is remastered from the old game, the controls are extremely different from the usual keyboard controls. To start off with, the controls are extremely difficult as you have to use odd key pairings that spread out on the entirety of the keyboard. The controls all go one in one, so in pairs, for example, holding S and I would turn the camera angle around. Though what’s nice about the controls is that first, you play through an; entire in-depth tutorial that helps you understand the controls. All in all, the controls; are easy to get used to once you play a few levels in the game.
The game includes many cute and intriguing cutscenes that illustrate the story in a quirky way. It almost seems like you’re watching an anime but can control the character within the anime. The animation of this game is so funky and unique, not like; anything you would see in any other game. If you aren’t familiar with the Katamari series, it’s highly recommended you check out the game. Everything is so vibrant and colourful. What pairs so nicely with the animation would be the voice actor for some of the storytelling that is so strong and deep, which sounds like a true narrator. It’s as if you are entering a fantasy movie yourself or; seems like you’re flipping through a storybook. The storytelling for this game is outstanding and with the animation and drawings throughout the game. It really makes an exciting and fun game. Even the items you see throughout the levels are so well detailed and are incorporated; from Japanese culture. Make sure to never skip out on any of the cut scenes. I love the melody that plays in the back with a choir ensemble, and you have a lot of piano-led music which goes with the other in-game sound effects. The sound effect with the text scrolling is also really funny. Everything about this game is outside of this world. The art style and soundtrack go so well together, creating this wild game concept; that you wouldn’t think would be this much fun.
My opinion of this game is extremely positive. This game is really unique, and it’s not like most casual games that people tend to play, which makes the experience even better. It’s a game that I; can go back to and play to relax and wind down. Everything about the game is; so lovely to immerse yourself into. Being able to sit back and play as this cute little green guy who takes orders from the King of Cosmos to roll up a bunch of katamari is such a funny concept. I loved how when rolling up bigger and bigger katamari, you were able to pick up even bigger; items and sometimes those items were alive. You were able to roll up a large Katamari, which would help you climb walls; and fall off of high places. When interacting with characters, there would be text that follows along with what their purpose in the story is. Each room would be themed differently, with many different types of items. A lot of these obstacles would be in your way, but as you pick up smaller objects at first to make your katamari bigger than you’d be able to hold onto bigger; objects. I like how when rolling katamari, even if things were flying; around the screen, you were able to catch onto them as well. There are a lot of little things about this game that I loved so much as well. The items in the room included things like cockroaches, food items, little toys, people and loads more things. The game has a co-op option is also very fun as it makes certain; controls harder as you have to work together to roll up the katamari to your best abilities. I found myself playing this game continuously and going through many different characters to complete level after level.
If you want to play a game where you can relax, back enjoy amazing storytelling and just roll up some katamari. A game with unique charming visuals and music with a funky tone to; it, then We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie is the game to check out!
