Summary:
We start off issue five with an interview at Congress, as the senator asks the vice president and president to promote the “Clean Act”, an act that was introduced by the senator a few issues ago. We switch over to another scene back at Ashbury Park, New Jersey, where there’s a takeover happening by a group of mutants.
Melvin is introduced as the ringleader of the mutants that are taking over. He is the original mutant of Tromaville, and his comrades call him “General Junko”. He fights with a mop. This story seems to take place in the near future, the year 2031, as the United States are divided into territories that are managed by different rag-tag teams, such as the Junko army, the Garden-State Co-Op and more. The takeover continues until it’s revealed that the takeover was simply a dream sequence imagined by Toxie.
A pink glob named Blahb was detached from Toxie’s head as it attached itself to Toxie to give him the dream sequence. The issue ends with Blahb leaving Earth as it tells Toxie that it has “passed” the test given to him in a dream. This issue also contains short stories, “Trigger” by Carol Lay and “Lackey Luck” by Bryce Ingman.
The artwork is colorful and fun to engage with, and the dialogue continues to be humorous yet dark enough to walk away with at least lingering questions about our environment. Toxic Avenger readers will enjoy this one.
