Summary:
Issue two starts off with a sailor warning the senator to go on if they dare into the world of the Toxic Avenger. Another murder has occurred, and Toxie has been framed for this murder. Another string of the story that takes place is that teens in the town are dousing themselves in toxic waste in order to turn mutant like Toxie.
Toxie gets to the bottom of the strange murders and mutant transformations as a group of cultists called “The Garden State Co-Op”, as they kidnap a young woman that has tried to mutate herself into a mushroom. Toxie finds the girl, as it’s revealed that a man named Todd is the ringleader of the cult. Toxie saves the girl from her death and kills Todd towards the end of this issue.
This issue seemed to focus on the weird connections between several groups in Tromaville, from the unsuspecting citizens to the minor cults and groups that take advantage of the toxic waste seeped into the cracks of the town. The horror elements continue to be a main seller for this series, as the story revolved about body mutilation and the morals surrounding a girl and her free will to choose to change her appearance.
I enjoyed the fast build-up to the climax of the story, but this theme did not keep my attention as much as issue one. I think readers that enjoy gross-out humor and horror will continue to love The Toxic Avenger.
