Which is exactly what 17 year old Japanese high school girl Suzu does in order to escape her self isolating life. Through her new form and online identity, she finds the courage to sing aloud again through the social networking platform - \u2018U\u2019. Her performance soon begins to gain immense momentum, as she rises to the top of the music charts, with regular performances and expert promotion from her classmate - Belle becomes an online icon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Belle is idolized by her fans, although much like reality there are also many that scrutinize her, with cyber bullying and trolls being a constant presence. Just like how many are hoping to unmask Belle and discover her real life identity - just as many are also after the \u2018beast\u2019 known as The Dragon. A highly skilled fighter that has been making a name for himself in the online combat circuit, who is also being chased down by a self-righteous vigilante group led by superhero wannabe Justin. As Belle and the \u2018Beast\u2019s\u2019 paths cross during one of her performances, Suzu develops a fascination into doing all she can to uncover just who The Dragon is. From here Suzu seeks him out, only to find his castle and the story of Disney\u2019s Beauty and the Beast begins to be recreated almost scene for scene. The similarity in this film is too on the nose for my taste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207427\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Belle2.jpg\" alt=\"Belle2\" width=\"1000\" height=\"418\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However there is plenty of character development, a very entertaining music score and performances, as well as real depictions of everyday life in a Japanese countryside town. As well as a high school girl's normal life, as she struggles with her feelings of not being enough, the loss of her mother, developing a first crush and the complexity of \u2018mean girl politics\u2019 in school. But then there is a massive curve ball I never saw coming! One that was so shocking, that I don\u2019t think the viewers were really prepared for it. This film is emotional, for instance with Suzu who lost her mother in a very tragic way several years ago, she has since grown distant from her father every day and also has so little confidence that she instead prefers to sing underneath a table than stand with the local choir club she is with. There are a number of interesting characters within this film, ones I wish were explored just a bit more, perhaps with an extra 30 minutes this may have been achieved. \u2018Belle\u2019 doesn\u2019t feel entirely original, it has so many similarities to a number of Hosoda\u2019s other works including the first Digimon film and Summer Wars. It is still far from Hosoda\u2019s best, but it is still worth checking out even just for the visuals and music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207428\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Belle3.jpg\" alt=\"Belle3\" width=\"1000\" height=\"418\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And if that wasn\u2019t enough, I have to give a massive shout out to the Oscar\u00ae-nominated team of Tom Moore and Ross Stewart from Irish animation studio - Cartoon Saloon (Wolfwalkers, Song of the Sea, The Secret of Kells), who brought to life the fantastic scenes that are part of the virtual world \"U\".<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2018Belle\u2019 is currently playing across Irish and UK cinemas, thanks to the hard working people over at Anime Limited (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alltheanime.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.alltheanime.com\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">). With the films, Pornostar, Unchain and 9 Souls. Now they have partnered up yet again, to release an even bigger collection of films totalling six in all capturing the majority of Toyoda\u2019s work from 2005 to 2021. Amongst this set is Hanging Garden (2005), Monsters Club (2011), I\u2019m Flash (2012), Wolf\u2019s Calling (2019), The Day of Destruction (2020) and Go Seppuku Yourselves (2021).<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207055\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_1.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_1\" width=\"800\" height=\"638\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hanging Garden (2005)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">So let\u2019s begin with Hanging Garden, whose story centred around the Kyobashis family and their golden rule to not keep secrets from one another. Of course the family drama ensues when such secrets become exposed, with this family being far from perfect. Each person has their own secretive life, from the ageing grand-mother, the untrustworthy father and of course the teenage son & daughter. All of their withheld lives and the stress of dealing with her own unhealthy relationship with her own mother, leads the main character to have her own mental crisis. It was quite an interesting film that took some time to get going but it was certainly holding my attention by the end. A bit of a slow burn you could say.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207056\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_2.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_2\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Monster\u2019s Club (2011)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our next film is entitled \u2018Monster\u2019s Club\u2019 and follows a young man named Ryoichi who resides alone in the snow covered mountains far away from society. With strong ideas on how the World should be, free from the salvery of working for giant, multi million dollar corporations - Ryoichi takes matters into his own hands by becoming a remote terrorist. By making and sending bombs through the postal service, addressed to high ranking officials and CEO\u2019s of TV networks. All under the pen name of the \u2018Monsters\u2019 Club\u2019. With only a younger sister left in this World, he is one night visited by an intrusive image of a man with his face covered in some form of make up. As his mind starts to imagine the impossible, whilst living in this remote wilderness. This is certainly a political drama of sorts, as Ryoichi takes aim at the powerful business people in society, blaming them for the indoctrination of millions of people. Without the terrorist plot, this could certainly be worked around to be a thriller.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207057\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I\u2019m Flash (2012)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our next film is certainly my favorite amongst this collection and is entitled, \u2018I\u2019m Flash\u2019. We follow a trio of \u2018guns for hire\u2019 who are first tasked with protecting Rui; the face and leader of a religious cult who was recently involved in a bit of a scandal. With Rui now wanting to disband his religious group, his family soon turned their attention to having him \u2018dealt with for good\u2019 by those that were hired to protect him. This was certainly an interesting film, with plenty of action and intrigue from start to finish. As we not only see it from the perspective of the \u2018bodyguards\u2019, but also from Rui\u2019s as we see exactly what led up to the unfortunate car accident that left one dead and another in a coma. This film is possibly the most rewatchable release out of the whole collection, especially for me and my taste in film.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207058\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_4.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_4\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wolf\u2019s Calling (2019)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now this next title is a short film called \u2018Wolf\u2019s Calling\u2019 and is one that has an interesting back story to it. Back in 2019, Toshiaki Toyoda himself was arrested by Japanese police for the unlawful possession of a handgun. It was later released that this was a family keepsake, but due to the incident Toyoda turned the idea into an interesting plot for a self funded short film. Without the use of the big studios, Toyoda still held a star studded cast including Kiyohiko Shibukawa (\u201c9 Souls\u201d 2003) and Ryuhei Matsuda (\u201cBlue Spring\u201d 2002), accompanied by international known actor Tadanobu Asano (\u201cIchi the Killer\u201d 2001) in a supporting role. The plot followed a young woman who finds an old handgun in her attic, thus throwing us viewers back into a long past Japan where a group of samurai gather at a very familiar looking shrine ready for a fight. I\u2019m unsure if this was a film that was to interlink with his future work \u2018Go Seppuku Yourselves\u2019. Although I do have to say, it was a nice surprise to see actor Kiyohiko Shibukawa return to the screen as he has also appeared in other TWF releases including Pornostar and Love & Peace<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207060\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_5.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_5\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Day of Destruction (2020)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our next film is \u2018The Day of Destruction\u2019, which was first released in 2020. The plot for this one takes us to a rural mountain town, where seven years ago a mysterious monster was found in a coal mine. Since then rumors spread amongst the town, with many falling to an unexplainable mental illness. One such person being a young man named Kenichi who is on a downward spiral after the tragic death of his younger sister. All of which sends him on a mission that inevitably leads him to the streets of Tokyo in a scene that looks like it just came from a film student's portfolio. There has to be more of a serious undertone happening in this story, one that I have completely missed as I found it quite difficult to follow at times.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207062\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_6.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_6\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Go Seppuku Yourselves (2021)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">And finally we have \u2018Go Seppuku Yourselves\u2019, the final film in what has come to be known as the politically urgent \u2018Resurrection Trilogy\u2019 from Toshiaki Toyoda. This short film follows a samurai, played by Kiyohiko Shibukawa yet again, as he attends the seppuku of a samurai who refuses to die without condemning the corrupt powers that be. A running theme in several of the films in this box set. This period samurai drama is set once again in a familiar location, one that I think has been used for the entire three films in the Resurrection Trilogy. So let me just sit back and recap on all the films, movies and more that I was fortunate enough to enjoy this year. Hopefully you lot will find something worth checking out from my thoughts of what I deemed an \u201cOtaku 2020 Review\u201d.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">So I\u2019m just gonna tip toe around the whole pandemic, bush-fire, Carole Baskin crap show that was 2020 and just dive right in to what I managed to do articles of this year.<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Must Watch Film:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-205108\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/zombieforsale-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"zombieforsale\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2018Zombie For Sale\u2019 is the first zom-rom-com to have emerged from Korea and the only one that comes to mind after the 2013 American film - \u2018Warm Bodies\u2019. This fantastic addition to the genre, reminds me of the comic style of \u2018Shaun of the Dead\u2019. Making it completely rewatchable and enjoyable time and time again. Released from Arrow Video on DVD and BluRay, you can also catch it over on Amazon Prime. Hopefully this film will make it to film festival screenings next year when the pandemic allows.<\/span>\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/zombie-for-sale-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/zombie-for-sale-review\/<\/a>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205853\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/melancholic.jpeg\" alt=\"melancholic\" width=\"792\" height=\"1000\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">A special mention has to go to Third Window Films for their release of \u2018Melancholic\u2019. Another fantastic film, that follows the midnight executions that go on in a run of the mill Japanese bath house. I still have to write this review up, but its a film well worth mentioning and is available to buy now over on their website. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/thirdwindowfilms.com\/distributed-films\/\">http:\/\/thirdwindowfilms.com\/distributed-films\/<\/a>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-205374\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/becky-691x1024.jpg\" alt=\"becky\" width=\"691\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">If Asian film and subtitles just aren't your thing, then don\u2019t fret as \u2018Becky\u2019 has you covered. This film puts Kevin James in a role I never would have imagined he\u2019d play. Having just escaped from prison, Kevin plays a Neo-Nazi that is on the hunt for a key he hid in the foundations of a house years ago. How and why he did this, well I have no idea. But I do know - that the action was astounding! With a very resourceful and anger driven teenage girl lurking in the woods, its Kevin\u2019s character that is in the most danger! Definitely a film for the action lover in your life. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/becky-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/becky-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another film I have enjoyed myself this year is the follow up sequel to 2016\u2019 Train To Busan - Peninsula. Another zombie action flick that held its own against its predecessor and had some superb driving sequences from his youngest co-stars. Although already out on DVD and BluRay from Studio Canal, I hope to catch this film next year in the Japanese Film Festival at my local cinema and I advise you all to do the same if you get the chance.<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Check Out This Manga:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-204780\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/demonslayerv1-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"demonslayerv1\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s the hit anime and manga series of 2020, which although it made its debut in Japan back in 2016. It has since caught the rest of the World by storm in the last 12 months. With the manga series just after ending, if you can\u2019t wait for the final volume to be released - you can always download the Shonen Jump app onto your phone and read all the manga you want for just \u20ac1.99 a month! It was a mix between Men In Black meets Lethal Weapon, certainly a show well worth introducing to those skeptical of anime. Definitely one worth mentioning to your co-workers to entice them over to the nerdy side. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/cop-craft-the-complete-series-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/cop-craft-the-complete-series-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-205026\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/risingoftheshieldhero-751x1024.jpg\" alt=\"risingoftheshieldhero\" width=\"751\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Next up is the isekai, \u2018The Rising of the Shield Hero\u2019 season one. Now this one was quite interesting in the fact that the hero in this show was brought into the world as one of four heroes. However due to only having a shield and no weapon, he was more or less cast to one side with zero help and left to level up on his own. Other mad shit happens along the way, he gathers an unusual party but also manages to do his bit to save people as best he can. I haven't enjoyed an isekai as much as this, since I watched Log Horizon. Well worth checking out both shows, as they each have a new season coming our way in the new year !<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-rising-of-the-shield-hero-review\/\"> http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-rising-of-the-shield-hero-review\/<\/a>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205218\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/misskobayashis_dm.jpg\" alt=\"Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid Complete Series Review\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Next up is what I would class as a reverse isekai. Where the magical creature instead ventures into the \u2018real world\u2019 in search of peace. \u2018Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid\u2019 is just full of laughs, and also has an interesting take on the lead character. Although addressed as Miss and is indeed female, the way the character is portrayed you could easily change the genders. She acted much like I would imagine an adult Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran HighSchool Host Club would, so it looks like I have found my anime counterpart once again! There are also talks of a second season coming our way in 2021 for Miss Kobayashi, and there is plenty of manga available now in the franchise from Seven Seas Entertainment to keep us going until then. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/miss-kobayashis-dragon-maid-the-complete-series-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/miss-kobayashis-dragon-maid-the-complete-series-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205764\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/promisedneverland.jpg\" alt=\"promisedneverland\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Okay I have two more anime releases well worth mentioning. Let\u2019s begin with \u2018The Promised Neverland\u2019 from Anime Limited. This anime wasn\u2019t long throwing you into the deep end when it comes to watching it. I got so hooked after Season One ended, that I got the Shonen Jump app and read all of the manga from start to finish. Now I will admit, Season Two next year is going to be very action packed! There is a lot to fit into the storyline, but it is just one of those shows where you can connect with the characters instantly as you both find out the dark truth about their world at the same time. Anime Limited have also done a wonderful job when it came to the packaging and cover arts.<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-promised-neverland-season-1-review\/\"> http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-promised-neverland-season-1-review\/<\/a>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205854\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/demonslayer_kny.jpg\" alt=\"demonslayer_kny\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Last but certainly not least - we have Season One of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. I haven\u2019t seen an anime with so much hype surrounding it since Season One of Attack on Titan! Once again, this is another show that when I finished watching it, I went and read all of the manga. And it was so satisfying! I could find zero flaw, even in the show. It was just so entertaining and the sword battles were among the best I have seen since Bleach and Claymore. I loved the old time, feudal feel to the show and the various personalities throughout, the hardships they all fought against and Tanjiro\u2019s sheer determination to help his sister Nezuko. Also, Nezuko is my Best Girl this year. All I want now are the figures for them all. Fingers crossed we will also get access to the film shorthly, hopefully via Crunchyroll or Funimation.<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not anime?:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-204948\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/samuraijackcs-722x1024.jpg\" alt=\"samuraijackcs\" width=\"722\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although not an anime, 2020 was the year I finally managed to finish watching Samurai Jack! Thanks to Manga Entertainment UK who released the complete saga on Blu Ray back in December 2019, the fifth and final season ended Jacks\u2019 story that we have all waited for ever since the show ended abruptly back in 2004. This collection is well worth investing in and the story plus animation even holds up to this day - <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/samurai-jack-the-complete-series-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/samurai-jack-the-complete-series-review\/<\/a>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Streamable Anime:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-204661\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/fruits_basket_s1_P2_2-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"fruits_basket_s1_P2_2\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">2020 has definitely been the year I have streamed most of my anime. Fruits Basket Season Two is still my obsession, with Season Two Part One getting a physical release sometime around February 2021. For the last few months though, I have solely been watching it on the Funimation app. If you haven\u2019t seen it already or have preferred the manga, I can assure you this adaptation comes straight from the manga pages and is sure to make you weep. It\u2019s emotional no matter what episode you end up watching.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Other shows I have watched on the app this year include: Demon Slayer, The Promised Neverland, Fire Force, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, How Heavy are the Dumbbells you lift and currently, the final season of Attack on Titan. January is also looking to be a packed year of even more anime to watch, with several second seasons to shows I am highly looking forward to returning to. Launched back in May by the people behind Anime Limited and Scotland Loves Anime film fest, it was a way of getting through the pandemic in a time that was going to clash with the yearly anime screenings up in Scotland. They offer a monthly service which includes four filmes and a series each month that you can binge. They have also included film premieres before they got a physical release, including \u2018Ride Your Wave\u2019 and \u2018Lu Over The Wall\u2019. Its a subscription well worth checking out and supporting, with a very affordable cost of under \u00a34.00 a month. The team behind the Mighty Nein and their DM Matthew Mercer have since teamed up with Dark Horse Comics to put their first Campaign to paper as a comic series. Thus the Origins of Vox Machina was released. It\u2019s time-traveling demon slayers in a nutshell. With appearances from the Queen of England, Dracula and the infamous - Queen in Black! Follow Van Helsing's apprentice - Sterling Cross, as he travels throughout time to stop the destruction of the Wolvenheart Organisation! <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wolvenheart-vol-1-legendary-slayer-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wolvenheart-vol-1-legendary-slayer-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Graphic Novels worth checking out:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-204923\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/teadragonfestival-746x1024.jpg\" alt=\"teadragonfestival\" width=\"746\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">I have really come to love Katie O\u2019Neills\u2019 work in the last year. From her \u2018Tea Dragon Society\u2019 series to \u2018Aquicorn Cove\u2019 - it just brings me back to the types of books I used to read as a kid. However these ones are still capable of catching my grown-up imagination, by transporting me into a story filled with joy but also personal challenges for the characters. My favorite of which has been the \u2018Tea Dragon Festival\u2019 - <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-tea-dragon-festival-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-tea-dragon-festival-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. A book and series that is well worth adding to your collection, and also makes as a lovely gift for younger readers. Truly this is one series I would hope to pass down through my family for decades to come.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-205769\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/themagicfish-723x1024.jpg\" alt=\"themagicfish\" width=\"723\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">My second graphic novel recommendation has to go to \u2018The Magic Fish\u2019 from Random House Graphic. This beautifully illustrated story combines some foreign fairy tales that I have never heard before and entwines them with the struggles that young Ti\u00e9n is going through. The only child of an immigrant family, that moved from Vietnam to America for a better life. Throw in the reality of knowing that he is poorer than his classmates, the amount of work and effort his parents put into their daily lives and the sadness he sees on his mothers\u2019 face when she talks about returning back to Vietnam to visit her ailing mother. Ti\u00e9ns\u2019 native language is English and although he has dual languages to a certain degree, his parents native tongue will always be Vietnamese. It just adds an extra layer of communication complications, when Ti\u00e9n struggles to understand his own feelings towards boys but doesn't know how to voice them to his parents. It\u2019s a book I am miserably failing to properly describe, but is well worth picking up and reading! In January 2021 and during the COVID-19 pandemic, a short squeeze or a rapid increase occurred with Game Stop Stock. Hedge funds on Wall Street were betting that the stock would go down in value and put up short positions that would enrich them as it continued to drop. Retail Investors then decided to buy the stock, causing the price to go up, and the hedge funds then started to lose money while the new investors became theoretically rich. The central conflict in this situation is that the retail investors driving up the Game Stop price were only rich on paper until they sold the stock. However, if they all sold, the cost would continue declining, and the hedge fund people would win. Paul Dano plays the online Investor and mastermind by default behind the Game Stop short squeeze, Keith Gill, also known on Redditt under the username DeepFuckingValue (DFV) and on YouTube as Roaring Kitty. He starts a revolution online and gains a substantial number of followers by sharing his opinion that Game Stop stock is undervalued and should be bought, which eventually grows into a movement which rattles Wall Street power players played by Seth Rogan, Vincent D\u2019Onofrio and Nick Offerman as well as Sebastian Stan who plays the co-owner of the stock trading app Robinhood.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The movie cleverly moves into different characters and their situations throughout the film, which are unrelated. It creates tension and realism when we see other people's reactions and the effect of this financial oddity on the livelihood of others. Pete Davidson plays Kevin, Keith Gill\u2019s brother, who brings that solid comedic contribution whenever he is on screen. He stands neutral when understanding almost everything throughout the movie and represents the audience member who will break down in simple terms when things get complicated. It rightly sets up and centres the core of the story around Keith and his family but then spends too much time involving elements that were not necessary.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">But this movie does have something for any moviegoer's tastes; it leaves a lasting impression of the carnage that ensued and the greed of individuals who value money more than people. The game has a lot to offer, which includes seven main endings with fourteen different outcomes. There are also many side quests with dedicated endings. Josh goes on a journey either by himself or with Price to rescue his daughter and, along the way, meets very peculiar characters.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The game is filled with suspense and captures a good essence of murder mystery aspects to it. Nonetheless, it also sets an extremely unsettling tone and with the different choices and narrative branches, the story can get even more wild. What I like about the game is that with the many different endings, it's great to replay and make different choices this allows the players to get a full look at the overall story as well as meet new people and solve different scenarios. What I also like about the game is that there is a good amount of interaction to it as well. For instance, in The Gallery, there was not much interaction you could do besides interacting with choices. In this game, there is a directory that allows you to further inspect documents or items you can also be brought to a screen with many different interactions, which makes it seem like a real-life play.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-212303\" src=\"https:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/isletidehotel2.webp\" alt=\"isletidehotel2\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The controls of this game are fairly simple; all you have to do is use your mouse\/trackpad to select an option. The cinematography for this game is outstanding. As you start the game off the bat, the quality is so high definition and so clean that it looks like you\u2019re watching an actual movie. What is also nice is that you can actually get a 4K DLC, which makes the game look even more stunning. The scenes are all so crisp and clean; they run so smoothly with zero lag. I enjoyed the different shots that were featured, with a close-up, zoom, a pan and many other creative shots. The dialogue for the game was also written really well. In addition to this, the acting was done extremely well by all the characters. The cinematography is like no other, and it does not even seem like you are playing a game. Everything from the sound effects, music, props, and dialogue to all the visuals itself is done extremely cleanly.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">I would say 100% I enjoyed the game because the concept of interactive films are just intriguing. It allows players to first make their initial choices to get their very first ending, which later makes them even more curious about the other endings. The game also offers so many different endings, so getting through them can be such a blast. The only thing I would recommend is that they make the decision timer a bit longer, and it went by extremely fast. Like in most instances, I would not even be able to read up to the second decision, and it would go away, so definitely, I would say the timer needs to be increased. Besides that, I enjoyed the game. I started my career as a feature film writer, mostly known for Netflix\u2019s animated movie, <em>Gnome Alone<\/em>. Told with rich painted artwork and fantastic cover artists interpreting the cast!<\/span>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How did Clover Press get involved with<em> Armored<\/em>, and how did you find the rest of the team for <em>Armored<\/em>?<\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Once I finished the script for issue 1 of <em>Armored<\/em>, I knew I needed an editor that could shepherd the project. After doing some research, I reached out to the incredible Eisner award-winning editor, Chris Stevens. Thankfully he understood my vision for <em>Armored<\/em> and we were on the same page about everything. He brought aboard watercolor-artist Ismael Hern\u00e1ndez to fully bring the story to life. From there, Chris helped secure one of the best letterers in the business, Ferran Delgado, and kickass cover artists such as Nick Pitarra, Chrissie Zullo, Scott Kolins, and Jae Lee. From there, Chris and I met with Clover and pitched our vision for the book. Still, heedless Reggie doesn\u2019t understand that Doug will never provide this; as he appears to be a horrible nasty person that smokes weed all day and is on the verge of being evicted from his house; he also neglects Reggie and shows him no love or affection. When Doug blames Reggie for being the cause of his break-up with his Girlfriend, Doug plots to purposely lose Reggie forever by leaving him far away from his house, hoping he never returns. When Reggie meets other stray dogs, Bug (Jamie Foxx), Maggie (Isla Fisher) and Hunter (Randall Park), he is convinced by them that his owner Doug does like care for him and instead deliberately and intentionally abandons him. The dogs devise a cunning plan to get revenge on Reggie's owner, changing his life forever.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Firstly, the essential thing to highlight is that this isn\u2019t a children's movie; worrying enough, no marketing attempts have been made to make this apparent. The poster shows two cute dogs, one a Border Terrier with a red bandana around his neck, and the other is a black and white Boston Terrier with big pointed ears, which would appeal to any endearing animal lovers or children. But, for most of this film, it does hint that the ideas and themes were written by kids who might find dogs pooping and running across water sprinklers funny. Which it is, but add a big dollop of adult immaturity and lots of silly sex jokes that don\u2019t land, and we now have a movie. I think I half-laughed maybe three or four times throughout the entirety, and that is being generous. These types of adult humour comedies have been done before with a rude teddy bear in \u2018Ted\u2019 or countless explicit talking grocery products in \u2018Sausage Party.\u2019 And even then, they were somewhat entertaining until the novelty of talking bears and food items started to wear off. When we suddenly realised that we were laughing at a talking sausage which slowly began to creep up on our sanity.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-211452\" src=\"https:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/strays1.webp\" alt=\"strays1\" width=\"1000\" height=\"654\" \/>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Call me old fashioned, but I do not find talking dogs that use vulgarity and urinate on each other funny, and that, unfortunately, is the reoccurring skit continuously. No attempts are made to make a funny and appealable original comedy. In contrast, as an adult audience, we are expected to laugh at dogs eating magic mushrooms in a forest and then killing a family of rabbits as they hallucinate. It\u2019s just tiresome to think that the level of creativity and cleverness was non-existent during the development of this project. To put it a little politely, the whole movie's plot is geared towards our main dog (Character), Reggie, and his intention of amputating his owner's genitalia with his mouth. Nothing stands out even remotely when advertising the film as a laugh-out funny film.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Unfortunately, money talks in the movie-making industry and it is disappointing to see such incredible talent making poor choices when choosing their acting roles. In this movie alone, Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx voices a dog called Pug that loves to have sex, particularly with an old battered worn-out living room couch down a dodgy alleyway called Delilah, (voiced by four-time Emmy nominated actress Sof\u00eda Vergara). I understand actors who want to broaden their horizons when dabbling into different film genres, but I question the necessity of it. I highly doubt four-time Emmy award winner Will Farrell decided to be involved in this production for the plot, and realistically he saw the dollar signs.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-211453\" src=\"https:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/strays2.webp\" alt=\"strays2\" width=\"1000\" height=\"529\" \/>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sadly it is such a realism today; no attempt is made to potentially develop and experiment with different resources surrounding these talented actors. Instead, the outcome is to be in a movie about dogs with giant penises. Famously, now-retired actor Daniel Day-Lewis carefully chose and studied his roles to perfection before beginning production. That\u2019s the kind of commitment which movie lovers like myself admire and appreciate; the dedication given does not go unnoticed when talent is recognised. Recently, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon and Emily Blunt took a $4 Million pay cut to work with Christopher Nolan on Oppenheimer; that level of value towards a person's craft is commendable.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">It would be different if \u2018Strays\u2019 attempted to create and be original when devising a script centred around foul-mouth-talking dogs. But instead, the production team were undoubtedly barking up the wrong tree by thinking dogs pooping simultaneously in a dog pound prison cell would be hilarious for grown adults. Until now I\u2019ve primarily worked as a comic book writer on books like The Infinite Loop, Superfreaks and Star Wars Adventures. And Room Service will be my first movie as director.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elsa: On my end I\u2019m a comic book artist. PK and I started together on The Infinite Loop about 8 years ago. I then worked with the Big Two and Lucasfilm for a while after that but came back to my indie roots more recently. I\u2019m also the storyboard artist for Room Service.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-208789\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/elsacharretier.jpg\" alt=\"elsacharretier\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1023\">\n\n \n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>How would you describe <em>Room Service<\/em>?<\/strong><\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">PK: \u201cRoom Service\u201d is a brutal glimpse inside the world of the ultra-wealthy. A world where there is no desire outside the reach of their wallet. Our protagonist is down on his luck, his family is on the verge of ruin, and with the help of the mysterious Caretaker, he might have found a way out of his trouble.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elsa: But of course, as you can imagine, these transactions always go wrong. Someone wants out, and when they realize they can\u2019t, then the true horror begins.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-208782\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/roomservicestory-791x1024.jpg\" alt=\"roomservicestory\" width=\"791\" height=\"1024\">\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Can you tell us about the origins of <em>Room Service<\/em>?<\/strong><\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">PK: In a lot of ways, it\u2019s me going back to my roots. I was the kind of kid who would do short movies and put together plays in their spare time. Directing was what I saw myself doing as a career and until I discovered comics and started writing, it was pretty much what I\u2019d set out to do. During the early days of the pandemic, Elsa and I started this YouTube channel about storytelling. I got to produce, film, direct and edit again and it re-kindled my love for the medium. Not that I had fallen out of love with it, but rather that I\u2019d been busy building other things. The YouTube channel made it clear that I deeply needed to get back to it.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elsa: From there it was really a matter of finding a writer that would be the ideal partner in an indie setting. We got in touch with James who immediately said yes!<\/span>\n\n \n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>What did you think when you read the screenplay by James Tynion IV?<\/strong><\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">PK: It was everything I wanted without knowing it. James\u2019 script is full of the brutality he\u2019s known for and the humanity he\u2019s infused into these characters was tremendously inspiring. It was dense and smart enough to have a very solid structure to work on, and open enough that my interpretation of this story didn\u2019t feel shoe-horned.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elsa: I mean, my jaw was on the floor. It is such a powerful story, especially considering the many restrictions he had, for budgetary concerns. Then, seeing PK adding another layer of meaning and creativity to it has been incredible to witness. I couldn\u2019t wait to start drawing storyboards.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-208783\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/roomservicemask.jpg\" alt=\"roomservicemask\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\">\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Who is the Caretaker?<\/strong><\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elsa: The Caretaker is the mysterious faceless entity who runs the whole operation. In the comic that James and I are creating as a companion piece to the short movie, we dig into a lot of how he operates and the depths of the depravity he is willing to provide to the ultra-wealthy.<\/span>\n\n \n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>What made you want to be involved with<em> Room Service<\/em>?<\/strong><\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elsa: PK and my creative relationship goes way back and we\u2019re used to doing stuff together. When he said he wanted to do a movie I knew I would participate in one form or another. Me being a comic book artist, and the only one of the time with drawing skills, I guess it made sense that I would do the storyboards! Everything about this process was new, but I learned a ton and I can\u2019t wait to see my pictures in film form.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-208784\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/roomserviceelsa-674x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"roomserviceelsa\" width=\"674\" height=\"1024\">\n\n \n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How important is word of mouth for any indie project?<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">PK: For Room Service, we didn\u2019t want to enter into a financial agreement with a production company that would want creative control in return. Full creative freedom is extremely important for all of us in general, but especially for this project. So we\u2019re essentially counting on Kickstarter backer support to fund this movie. Meaning, we have just a few more days to convince people to support the project and help us get as big a budget as possible. I\u2019d say word of mouth is incredibly valuable!<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-208790\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/pkcolinet.jpg\" alt=\"pkcolinet\" width=\"1000\" height=\"800\">\n\n \n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>As you are crowdfunding <em>Room Service<\/em> and dealing directly with consumers, does that make <em>Room Service<\/em> more special for you?<\/strong><\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elsa: It does mean we have a certain amount of responsibility, especially in terms of delivering the movie on time. But that\u2019s actually good. No matter the difficulties we will face during the process of making the film, and we will probably face some big ones, we won\u2019t give up. Which is exactly what 17 year old Japanese high school girl Suzu does in order to escape her self isolating life. Through her new form and online identity, she finds the courage to sing aloud again through the social networking platform - \u2018U\u2019. Her performance soon begins to gain immense momentum, as she rises to the top of the music charts, with regular performances and expert promotion from her classmate - Belle becomes an online icon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Belle is idolized by her fans, although much like reality there are also many that scrutinize her, with cyber bullying and trolls being a constant presence. Just like how many are hoping to unmask Belle and discover her real life identity - just as many are also after the \u2018beast\u2019 known as The Dragon. A highly skilled fighter that has been making a name for himself in the online combat circuit, who is also being chased down by a self-righteous vigilante group led by superhero wannabe Justin. As Belle and the \u2018Beast\u2019s\u2019 paths cross during one of her performances, Suzu develops a fascination into doing all she can to uncover just who The Dragon is. From here Suzu seeks him out, only to find his castle and the story of Disney\u2019s Beauty and the Beast begins to be recreated almost scene for scene. The similarity in this film is too on the nose for my taste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207427\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Belle2.jpg\" alt=\"Belle2\" width=\"1000\" height=\"418\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However there is plenty of character development, a very entertaining music score and performances, as well as real depictions of everyday life in a Japanese countryside town. As well as a high school girl's normal life, as she struggles with her feelings of not being enough, the loss of her mother, developing a first crush and the complexity of \u2018mean girl politics\u2019 in school. But then there is a massive curve ball I never saw coming! One that was so shocking, that I don\u2019t think the viewers were really prepared for it. This film is emotional, for instance with Suzu who lost her mother in a very tragic way several years ago, she has since grown distant from her father every day and also has so little confidence that she instead prefers to sing underneath a table than stand with the local choir club she is with. There are a number of interesting characters within this film, ones I wish were explored just a bit more, perhaps with an extra 30 minutes this may have been achieved. \u2018Belle\u2019 doesn\u2019t feel entirely original, it has so many similarities to a number of Hosoda\u2019s other works including the first Digimon film and Summer Wars. It is still far from Hosoda\u2019s best, but it is still worth checking out even just for the visuals and music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207428\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Belle3.jpg\" alt=\"Belle3\" width=\"1000\" height=\"418\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And if that wasn\u2019t enough, I have to give a massive shout out to the Oscar\u00ae-nominated team of Tom Moore and Ross Stewart from Irish animation studio - Cartoon Saloon (Wolfwalkers, Song of the Sea, The Secret of Kells), who brought to life the fantastic scenes that are part of the virtual world \"U\".<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2018Belle\u2019 is currently playing across Irish and UK cinemas, thanks to the hard working people over at Anime Limited (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alltheanime.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.alltheanime.com\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">). With the films, Pornostar, Unchain and 9 Souls. Now they have partnered up yet again, to release an even bigger collection of films totalling six in all capturing the majority of Toyoda\u2019s work from 2005 to 2021. Amongst this set is Hanging Garden (2005), Monsters Club (2011), I\u2019m Flash (2012), Wolf\u2019s Calling (2019), The Day of Destruction (2020) and Go Seppuku Yourselves (2021).<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207055\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_1.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_1\" width=\"800\" height=\"638\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hanging Garden (2005)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">So let\u2019s begin with Hanging Garden, whose story centred around the Kyobashis family and their golden rule to not keep secrets from one another. Of course the family drama ensues when such secrets become exposed, with this family being far from perfect. Each person has their own secretive life, from the ageing grand-mother, the untrustworthy father and of course the teenage son & daughter. All of their withheld lives and the stress of dealing with her own unhealthy relationship with her own mother, leads the main character to have her own mental crisis. It was quite an interesting film that took some time to get going but it was certainly holding my attention by the end. A bit of a slow burn you could say.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207056\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_2.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_2\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Monster\u2019s Club (2011)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our next film is entitled \u2018Monster\u2019s Club\u2019 and follows a young man named Ryoichi who resides alone in the snow covered mountains far away from society. With strong ideas on how the World should be, free from the salvery of working for giant, multi million dollar corporations - Ryoichi takes matters into his own hands by becoming a remote terrorist. By making and sending bombs through the postal service, addressed to high ranking officials and CEO\u2019s of TV networks. All under the pen name of the \u2018Monsters\u2019 Club\u2019. With only a younger sister left in this World, he is one night visited by an intrusive image of a man with his face covered in some form of make up. As his mind starts to imagine the impossible, whilst living in this remote wilderness. This is certainly a political drama of sorts, as Ryoichi takes aim at the powerful business people in society, blaming them for the indoctrination of millions of people. Without the terrorist plot, this could certainly be worked around to be a thriller.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207057\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I\u2019m Flash (2012)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our next film is certainly my favorite amongst this collection and is entitled, \u2018I\u2019m Flash\u2019. We follow a trio of \u2018guns for hire\u2019 who are first tasked with protecting Rui; the face and leader of a religious cult who was recently involved in a bit of a scandal. With Rui now wanting to disband his religious group, his family soon turned their attention to having him \u2018dealt with for good\u2019 by those that were hired to protect him. This was certainly an interesting film, with plenty of action and intrigue from start to finish. As we not only see it from the perspective of the \u2018bodyguards\u2019, but also from Rui\u2019s as we see exactly what led up to the unfortunate car accident that left one dead and another in a coma. This film is possibly the most rewatchable release out of the whole collection, especially for me and my taste in film.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207058\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_4.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_4\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wolf\u2019s Calling (2019)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now this next title is a short film called \u2018Wolf\u2019s Calling\u2019 and is one that has an interesting back story to it. Back in 2019, Toshiaki Toyoda himself was arrested by Japanese police for the unlawful possession of a handgun. It was later released that this was a family keepsake, but due to the incident Toyoda turned the idea into an interesting plot for a self funded short film. Without the use of the big studios, Toyoda still held a star studded cast including Kiyohiko Shibukawa (\u201c9 Souls\u201d 2003) and Ryuhei Matsuda (\u201cBlue Spring\u201d 2002), accompanied by international known actor Tadanobu Asano (\u201cIchi the Killer\u201d 2001) in a supporting role. The plot followed a young woman who finds an old handgun in her attic, thus throwing us viewers back into a long past Japan where a group of samurai gather at a very familiar looking shrine ready for a fight. I\u2019m unsure if this was a film that was to interlink with his future work \u2018Go Seppuku Yourselves\u2019. Although I do have to say, it was a nice surprise to see actor Kiyohiko Shibukawa return to the screen as he has also appeared in other TWF releases including Pornostar and Love & Peace<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207060\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_5.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_5\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Day of Destruction (2020)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our next film is \u2018The Day of Destruction\u2019, which was first released in 2020. The plot for this one takes us to a rural mountain town, where seven years ago a mysterious monster was found in a coal mine. Since then rumors spread amongst the town, with many falling to an unexplainable mental illness. One such person being a young man named Kenichi who is on a downward spiral after the tragic death of his younger sister. All of which sends him on a mission that inevitably leads him to the streets of Tokyo in a scene that looks like it just came from a film student's portfolio. There has to be more of a serious undertone happening in this story, one that I have completely missed as I found it quite difficult to follow at times.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-207062\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toshiaki-toyoda_6.jpg\" alt=\"toshiaki-toyoda_6\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\">\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Go Seppuku Yourselves (2021)<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">And finally we have \u2018Go Seppuku Yourselves\u2019, the final film in what has come to be known as the politically urgent \u2018Resurrection Trilogy\u2019 from Toshiaki Toyoda. This short film follows a samurai, played by Kiyohiko Shibukawa yet again, as he attends the seppuku of a samurai who refuses to die without condemning the corrupt powers that be. A running theme in several of the films in this box set. This period samurai drama is set once again in a familiar location, one that I think has been used for the entire three films in the Resurrection Trilogy. Hopefully you lot will find something worth checking out from my thoughts of what I deemed an \u201cOtaku 2020 Review\u201d.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">So I\u2019m just gonna tip toe around the whole pandemic, bush-fire, Carole Baskin crap show that was 2020 and just dive right in to what I managed to do articles of this year.<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Must Watch Film:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-205108\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/zombieforsale-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"zombieforsale\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2018Zombie For Sale\u2019 is the first zom-rom-com to have emerged from Korea and the only one that comes to mind after the 2013 American film - \u2018Warm Bodies\u2019. This fantastic addition to the genre, reminds me of the comic style of \u2018Shaun of the Dead\u2019. Making it completely rewatchable and enjoyable time and time again. Released from Arrow Video on DVD and BluRay, you can also catch it over on Amazon Prime. Another fantastic film, that follows the midnight executions that go on in a run of the mill Japanese bath house. This film puts Kevin James in a role I never would have imagined he\u2019d play. Having just escaped from prison, Kevin plays a Neo-Nazi that is on the hunt for a key he hid in the foundations of a house years ago. How and why he did this, well I have no idea. But I do know - that the action was astounding! With a very resourceful and anger driven teenage girl lurking in the woods, its Kevin\u2019s character that is in the most danger! Definitely a film for the action lover in your life. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/becky-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/becky-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another film I have enjoyed myself this year is the follow up sequel to 2016\u2019 Train To Busan - Peninsula. Another zombie action flick that held its own against its predecessor and had some superb driving sequences from his youngest co-stars. Although already out on DVD and BluRay from Studio Canal, I hope to catch this film next year in the Japanese Film Festival at my local cinema and I advise you all to do the same if you get the chance.<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Check Out This Manga:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-204780\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/demonslayerv1-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"demonslayerv1\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s the hit anime and manga series of 2020, which although it made its debut in Japan back in 2016. It has since caught the rest of the World by storm in the last 12 months. With the manga series just after ending, if you can\u2019t wait for the final volume to be released - you can always download the Shonen Jump app onto your phone and read all the manga you want for just \u20ac1.99 a month! And that includes ALL of the old and latest chapters from Demon Slayer, Dragon Ball, Boruto, Jojo and more!<\/span>\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/demon-slayer-kimetsu-no-yaiba-vol-1-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/demon-slayer-kimetsu-no-yaiba-vol-1-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another notable manga that I have enjoyed this year, has been The Promised Neverland (also available on the Shonen Jump app!). Which is another series that has since finished, so you can binge it now over on the app.<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Notable Anime Releases:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205350\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/cop-craft-complete-series.jpg\" alt=\"cop-craft-complete-series\" width=\"530\" height=\"795\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">This series certainly caught me by surprise this year, Cop Craft is only a short 12 episode series but was jam packed with action from start to finish. It was a mix between Men In Black meets Lethal Weapon, certainly a show well worth introducing to those skeptical of anime. Definitely one worth mentioning to your co-workers to entice them over to the nerdy side. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/cop-craft-the-complete-series-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/cop-craft-the-complete-series-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-205026\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/risingoftheshieldhero-751x1024.jpg\" alt=\"risingoftheshieldhero\" width=\"751\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Next up is the isekai, \u2018The Rising of the Shield Hero\u2019 season one. Now this one was quite interesting in the fact that the hero in this show was brought into the world as one of four heroes. However due to only having a shield and no weapon, he was more or less cast to one side with zero help and left to level up on his own. Other mad shit happens along the way, he gathers an unusual party but also manages to do his bit to save people as best he can. I haven't enjoyed an isekai as much as this, since I watched Log Horizon. Well worth checking out both shows, as they each have a new season coming our way in the new year !<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-rising-of-the-shield-hero-review\/\"> http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-rising-of-the-shield-hero-review\/<\/a>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205218\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/misskobayashis_dm.jpg\" alt=\"Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid Complete Series Review\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Next up is what I would class as a reverse isekai. Where the magical creature instead ventures into the \u2018real world\u2019 in search of peace. \u2018Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid\u2019 is just full of laughs, and also has an interesting take on the lead character. Although addressed as Miss and is indeed female, the way the character is portrayed you could easily change the genders. She acted much like I would imagine an adult Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran HighSchool Host Club would, so it looks like I have found my anime counterpart once again! There are also talks of a second season coming our way in 2021 for Miss Kobayashi, and there is plenty of manga available now in the franchise from Seven Seas Entertainment to keep us going until then. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/miss-kobayashis-dragon-maid-the-complete-series-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/miss-kobayashis-dragon-maid-the-complete-series-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205764\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/promisedneverland.jpg\" alt=\"promisedneverland\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Okay I have two more anime releases well worth mentioning. Let\u2019s begin with \u2018The Promised Neverland\u2019 from Anime Limited. This anime wasn\u2019t long throwing you into the deep end when it comes to watching it. I got so hooked after Season One ended, that I got the Shonen Jump app and read all of the manga from start to finish. Now I will admit, Season Two next year is going to be very action packed! There is a lot to fit into the storyline, but it is just one of those shows where you can connect with the characters instantly as you both find out the dark truth about their world at the same time. Anime Limited have also done a wonderful job when it came to the packaging and cover arts.<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-promised-neverland-season-1-review\/\"> http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-promised-neverland-season-1-review\/<\/a>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205854\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/demonslayer_kny.jpg\" alt=\"demonslayer_kny\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Last but certainly not least - we have Season One of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. I haven\u2019t seen an anime with so much hype surrounding it since Season One of Attack on Titan! Once again, this is another show that when I finished watching it, I went and read all of the manga. And it was so satisfying! I could find zero flaw, even in the show. It was just so entertaining and the sword battles were among the best I have seen since Bleach and Claymore. I loved the old time, feudal feel to the show and the various personalities throughout, the hardships they all fought against and Tanjiro\u2019s sheer determination to help his sister Nezuko. Also, Nezuko is my Best Girl this year. All I want now are the figures for them all. Fingers crossed we will also get access to the film shorthly, hopefully via Crunchyroll or Funimation.<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not anime?:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-204948\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/samuraijackcs-722x1024.jpg\" alt=\"samuraijackcs\" width=\"722\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although not an anime, 2020 was the year I finally managed to finish watching Samurai Jack! Thanks to Manga Entertainment UK who released the complete saga on Blu Ray back in December 2019, the fifth and final season ended Jacks\u2019 story that we have all waited for ever since the show ended abruptly back in 2004. This collection is well worth investing in and the story plus animation even holds up to this day - <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/samurai-jack-the-complete-series-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/samurai-jack-the-complete-series-review\/<\/a>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Streamable Anime:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-204661\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/fruits_basket_s1_P2_2-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"fruits_basket_s1_P2_2\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">2020 has definitely been the year I have streamed most of my anime. Fruits Basket Season Two is still my obsession, with Season Two Part One getting a physical release sometime around February 2021. For the last few months though, I have solely been watching it on the Funimation app. If you haven\u2019t seen it already or have preferred the manga, I can assure you this adaptation comes straight from the manga pages and is sure to make you weep. It\u2019s emotional no matter what episode you end up watching.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Other shows I have watched on the app this year include: Demon Slayer, The Promised Neverland, Fire Force, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, How Heavy are the Dumbbells you lift and currently, the final season of Attack on Titan. January is also looking to be a packed year of even more anime to watch, with several second seasons to shows I am highly looking forward to returning to. Funimation has been a must have app on my phone this year, alongside the old faithful Crunchyroll - which I just finished watching \u2018Is It Okay To Pick Girls Up In A Dungeon?!\u2019, as well as \u2018Mysteria Friends\u2019.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-205147\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/screenanime-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"screenanime\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another streaming service that came online this year, has been \u2018Screen Anime\u2019. Launched back in May by the people behind Anime Limited and Scotland Loves Anime film fest, it was a way of getting through the pandemic in a time that was going to clash with the yearly anime screenings up in Scotland. They offer a monthly service which includes four filmes and a series each month that you can binge. They have also included film premieres before they got a physical release, including \u2018Ride Your Wave\u2019 and \u2018Lu Over The Wall\u2019. Its a subscription well worth checking out and supporting, with a very affordable cost of under \u00a34.00 a month. However it is only available to view in the UK and Ireland at the moment.<\/span>\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/screen-anime-june-july-2020-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/screen-anime-june-july-2020-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A Good \u2018Aul Book:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-205423\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/cakeswithfaces.jpeg\" alt=\"cakeswithfaces\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you have attended any of the MCM Comic Cons in England over the years or just picked up your monthly Neo Magazine, you would be well acquainted with Cakes With Faces. A British company set up by designer Amy Crabtree, who has brought out many \u2018kawaii\u2019 alpaca and sushi hoodie designs over the years and whose stall has continuously grown over the near decade she has been trading at cons. She also has a superb YouTube channel that focuses on her trips to Japan and how you can organise your trip too! Which she has now put pen to paper and has created her very own travel guide! Over the last year or so, I have been enjoying the weekly Critical Role nights but I am a long way off from being up to date on the current Campaign 2. The team behind the Mighty Nein and their DM Matthew Mercer have since teamed up with Dark Horse Comics to put their first Campaign to paper as a comic series. Thus the Origins of Vox Machina was released. This epic tale tells the story of not only Van Helsing, but the organisation he establishes to track down the evil demons that have emerged through various points in time. It\u2019s time-traveling demon slayers in a nutshell. With appearances from the Queen of England, Dracula and the infamous - Queen in Black! Follow Van Helsing's apprentice - Sterling Cross, as he travels throughout time to stop the destruction of the Wolvenheart Organisation! <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wolvenheart-vol-1-legendary-slayer-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wolvenheart-vol-1-legendary-slayer-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<\/span>\n\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Graphic Novels worth checking out:<\/span><\/strong>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-204923\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/teadragonfestival-746x1024.jpg\" alt=\"teadragonfestival\" width=\"746\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">I have really come to love Katie O\u2019Neills\u2019 work in the last year. From her \u2018Tea Dragon Society\u2019 series to \u2018Aquicorn Cove\u2019 - it just brings me back to the types of books I used to read as a kid. However these ones are still capable of catching my grown-up imagination, by transporting me into a story filled with joy but also personal challenges for the characters. My favorite of which has been the \u2018Tea Dragon Festival\u2019 - <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-tea-dragon-festival-review\/\">http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/the-tea-dragon-festival-review\/<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. A book and series that is well worth adding to your collection, and also makes as a lovely gift for younger readers. Truly this is one series I would hope to pass down through my family for decades to come.<\/span>\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-205769\" src=\"http:\/\/comicbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/themagicfish-723x1024.jpg\" alt=\"themagicfish\" width=\"723\" height=\"1024\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">My second graphic novel recommendation has to go to \u2018The Magic Fish\u2019 from Random House Graphic. This beautifully illustrated story combines some foreign fairy tales that I have never heard before and entwines them with the struggles that young Ti\u00e9n is going through. The only child of an immigrant family, that moved from Vietnam to America for a better life. Throw in the reality of knowing that he is poorer than his classmates, the amount of work and effort his parents put into their daily lives and the sadness he sees on his mothers\u2019 face when she talks about returning back to Vietnam to visit her ailing mother. Ti\u00e9ns\u2019 native language is English and although he has dual languages to a certain degree, his parents native tongue will always be Vietnamese. It just adds an extra layer of communication complications, when Ti\u00e9n struggles to understand his own feelings towards boys but doesn't know how to voice them to his parents. It\u2019s a book I am miserably failing to properly describe, but is well worth picking up and reading! There will be many more conventions in the future, we will all be extra excited to attend, to get out of the house and even leave our own county at long last! Imagine being able to go to Dublin for Dublin Comic Con and J-Con, to travel to Cork for Kaizoku Con, Galway for Akumakon and maybe even new conventions that haven\u2019t even been announced yet.
