“Dreamy Creatures”

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another ComicBuzz review! In todays’ post I took a look into what was included in SoKawaii’s June Box. The theme they ran with this time is “Dreamy Creatures”, which features six products from a number of licenses. Including Studio Ghibli, Sanrio, Pokémon and Kirby. So let’s get started on our usual description of what SoKawaii is and what they have to offer you!

For those of you that don’t know – SoKawaii is a company based in Japan, home of practically everything kawaii (the Japanese word for cute). They create monthly subscription boxes, jam packed with 100% licensed products from brands such as Hello Kitty, Pokémon, Sanrio, Studio Ghibli and more. The items range from plushies to Gachapon, little figures, stationary, lifestyle, kitchenware and more. The staff at SoKawaii handpicks 5 to 7 cute & useful items exclusive to Japan, pack them up in a very decorative box and send it straight to your doorstep each month. You can also check out their Instagram for even more info and insights into what is currently trending in Japanese arcades and stores. As well as sneak peeks into what they could be including in next month’s box. They also listen to what you would like to be included in future boxes, by asking across their social media accounts. So make sure to have your opinions heard over on their social media posts, particularly their Instagram one – https://www.instagram.com/sokawaii/

So our first item this month is surely worth the price of the box alone, and that is the official Totoro plush from My Neighbour Totoro. Studio Ghibli merch is not cheap folks, especially on this side of the World. I have seen this exact plush go for £45 in HMV - and it’s not a massive plush by any regards! So for me, everything else in this box I may have just gotten for free cause this plush was definitely the cream of the crop. It’s super fluffy, plump, stands freely on its own and is an official merch. Although it doesn’t have its toothy, almost creepy looking grin - it is still adorable as heck and perfect to be put on display alongside your Studio Ghibli film collection.

"sokawaiijune2021_2"

"sokawaiijune2021_3"

Moving on we head on over to the world of Pokémon, with this highly adorable Pikachu masking tape. This item was available in four designs, all from the Pokemon Sepia Graffiti collection. Looking into it now, this is a fairly old release, as it first came out back in 2016. However the designs are still just as adorable all the same, I wouldn’t say no to another item from this collection being added again in a future box.

"sokawaiijune2021_4"

We are now onto our second Pokémon item, with this very large Face Towel. With two designs available at random in every box, one of which will feature both Pikachu and Eevee enjoying a relaxing nap. This super soft towel is quite large and is more of a hand towel in my eyes, than a face towel. It looks like 8 times the size of a face cloth and the picture I took of it above is with the towel folded over 3 times!

"sokawaiijune2021_5"

We are now back to stationary with this next item, featuring Kirby. June’s box saw everyone getting a set of two limited edition KIrby clear file folders, which were available in four regional designs. Including Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa and Fujisan, with Kirby posing at each location. Now this is another older collection, as this was originally released last April. However it is quite adorable, but what does everyone do with their clear files? Do you display them, and if so how? Reach out to us on either Twitter or Facebook and tag us in your posts, to show us your clear file display ideas.

"sokawaiijune2021_6"

Our final two items are both from Sanrio, the largest of which is the My Melody circular floor mat in the picture above. Which is just one of three designs that was available at random in every box, the other two included Cinnamoroll and Hello Kitty. This mat is 50x50cm, probably amongst the smallest you can find and would be perfect to have at your computer desk. Better yet it has numerous anti slip bumps underneath, so it shouldn't go sliding about the place when you walk on it. The upside has a printed design of one of the three characters included, with the name in pastel print and a quote about the character underneath. This item was released in 2020, going by the trademark on the mat. It’s nice and soft, but I could easily see this getting stained very quickly and I’m unsure how machine washable it is. So best be careful with this one.

And our final item is a small Hello Kitty storage box. This clip-closed box would easily work as a small lunch box, for storing your washi/masking tape, for hair ties or even your medication as long as you don’t have small kids in the house that will be quickly drawn to such a cute box as this one. It also looks like a classic vintage Hello Kitty design, one that is sure to last the ages.

There we have it folks, that was Junes’ SoKawaii box. This month had a good mix of items, from decorative, storage, household and stationary from some iconic franchises. Now let’s get on to the all important information, for how YOU can begin your own subscription, as well as a special discount code just for you guys.

So here is the price breakdown of the box each month and the savings you can get. SoKawaii are back to shipping their boxes via Japan Post, so delivery may take a number of weeks. Whether you subscribe month to month, or for their 3, 6 or even 12 month package options – there are savings to be had.

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

Now if you enjoyed June’s box, then just wait for July’s! It’s theme is “Enchanting Matsuri”, which will feature a number of items from Sumikko Gurashi, Sanrio and Rilakkuma. That box is already sold out and on the way to me and will include a Sumikko Gurashi electric hand fan! Shame the Irish heatwave has already been and gone! Stay tuned to SoKawaiis’ social media, as they announced their themes, sneak peaks and opinion polls on what fans want to see next in their boxes. They are very active on their Instagram and really listen to what their customers are looking for – so go have your say now! “Too Cute To Spook”

Hello everyone and welcome back once again to another subscription box review with us over on ComicBuzz. Today let’s take a look back at what was included in October’s edition of SoKawaii, which ran with the theme of ‘Too Cute To Spook’. We had six items this month that ranged from homewares, a plush, an accessory and beauty, from the likes of Sanrio, Pokémon and Twisted Wonderland. So before we get this review started, let’s take a look at who SoKawaii is!

As well as sneak peeks into what they could be including in next month’s box. They also listen to what you would like to be included in future boxes, by asking across their social media accounts. So make sure to have your opinions heard over on their social media posts, particularly their Instagram one – https://www.instagram.com/sokawaii/

"sokawaiioct2021_1"

Our first item this month is far from spooky, with this bright pink Pokemon alarm clock. This item was available in four designs and colors, including pink, yellow, green and purple. As you can see from the pink version above, it features Slowpoke, Mew, Luvdisc and Alcremie. This is a battery operated clock, with the battery not included. It is rather cute, great for a bedroom decoration.

"sokawaiioct2021_2"

Next up is this Makeup Brush Cleaner and stand from Sanrio. Featuring two of my favorite girls - Kuromi and My Melody. Now this is a rather practical item I must say. As you can see from the packaging above, all you need to do is take the lid off of the tub, add some water or cleaning solution and wash your makeup brushes in it by moving the bristles along the pointed spikes at the bottom which help to remove the likes of foundation from the brush. Now I’m not one to wear much makeup, so I’m unsure as to how well this item actually works but going by just the design alone - it is actually quite clever and well thought out. And who knows, maybe it also works on kids' paint brushes?

"sokawaiioct2021_3"

Moving on now to our Twisted Wonderland item, with this acrylic stand featuring Idia Shroud. With one of seven characters included in every box, its a series that is still rather unheard of here outside of Japan. Twisted Wonderland is actually a Japanese mobile game created by Aniplex and Disney. Interestingly enough, the character designs, scenario and concept was actually created by the author of Black Butler - Yana Toboso. There is even an anime in the works at the moment and should hopefully be released sometime next year over on Disney+.

"sokawaiioct2021_4"

Our next item is a Narikiri face mask from Sanrio. I’m unsure as to how many varieties of designs that were available, as there were at least two. I received the Hello Kitty design, while the Pompompurin one is advertised in the leaflet. These character designed face masks make a great inexpensive souvenir and are a good seller in Japan. This particular one is rose scented and claims to be packed full of everything your skin needs to feel revitalised including ingredients such as witch hazel water, damask rose, hydrolyzed collagen and soybean extract, it will also leave your skin smelling like roses. If you missed out on getting your own face mask last month, then do not fear as ToFu Cute is also selling them over on their UK based website and store based in Portsmouth.

TofuCute: https://www.tofucute.com/narikiri-face-pack-mask-kawaii-hello-kitty~p4970.html

"sokawaiioct2021_5"

"sokawaiioct2021_6"

Okay so who here also loves Aggretsuko? Exactly, practically everybody that has come across her! Retsuko is a 25year old red panda, working in the accounting department of a Japanese business. She is the most realistic Sanrio character I have ever come across, as she depicts the many ups and downs of being single, dating and working life. In order to blow off some steam, she goes on solo trips to a karaoke booth to play some heavy metal as she screams out her frustrations. It is definitely an entertaining watch, and you can catch it all now over on Netflix. Season Four is set to hit screens shortly, on the 16th December. So in order to get on the hype train, everyone received this Two sided Aggretsuko pouch. Where one side shows her calm demeanor, the other has her Rage side! It’s a small zipped pouch that you can attach to your bag with enough room inside for a couple of coins.

"sokawaiioct2021_7"

And our last item this month is this Halloween inspired Cinnamoroll plush. This exclusive Halloween plush takes our normal Cinnamoroll design and makes it a tad more magical. It’s ears now have a colorful fade on them from purple to orange on the tips, with both bat, black stars and spider web designs printed on. The plush also has a small black witches hat attached, a black and orange cape and the cutest of pumpkin wands attached to their right hand. With the addition of this new plush, I now have a trio of Sanrio Halloween plushies to break out each year. All thanks to the last three years of the October SoKawaii box. I wonder just what character we will be receiving in 2022?!

And there we have it folks, that was the end of our October box review from SoKawaii. What did you think of this one? Let us know by reaching out to us across our social media accounts. So let’s continue with how you can get your very own SoKawaii box, as well as a small discount for all your first time buyers!

So here is the price breakdown of the box each month and the savings you can get. SoKawaii are back to shipping their boxes via Japan Post, so delivery may take a number of weeks. Whether you subscribe month to month, or for their 3, 6 or even 12 month package options – there are savings to be had.

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

12 Months – $31.50 (€26.00mo roughly)

Better yet, here is a $3 discount code that you can use on your first box by clicking this link!http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Now if you enjoyed October’s box, then just wait for Novembers’! SoKawaii - September

“After School Party”

Hello again and welcome back to another subscription box review! Today let’s take a good look at what was included in Septembers’ box from SoKawaii. The Japanese monthly subscription box service that gathers a number of super cute and sometimes exclusive items each month, packs them neatly into a very striking box and ships them right to your doorstep. September’s box ran with the theme of ‘After School Party’, as the new school semester starts for many of you out there. So let’s get started with our usual SoKawaii info!

"sokawaiisep2021_1"

Our first item this month is perfectly timed with going back to school, as we all received this Himouto! Umaru-chan pencil case. From the popular and short lived 2015 anime, we get this slim pencil case that is entirely decorated in Umaru-chans’ face. Featuring 13 various facial expressions that you are sure to experience throughout an entire school day! Like I mentioned it is fairly slim, so no point expecting to fit in a scientific calculator. Ideal for a couple of pens & pencils, as well as that all important Tipp-Ex pen so you can doodle a few mustaches on your new pencil case.

"sokawaiisep2021_2"

Moving on, we have a rather handy foldable straw and case from Sanrio. Available in four character designs, including Kuromi, My Melody, Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin. This set comes with two foldable straws, a cleaning brush and a small case that could very easily be mistaken for an airpod case. Now I say this is handy for the simple reason, those that have braces will find this incredibly useful.

"sokawaiisep2021_3"

Our next item features the wonderful keeper of the Clow Cards - Cardcaptor Sakura. In this mini ring notebook, with a hardcover and star shaped cut out design that showcases Sakura on the front page. Also on each individual page there is a little Kero-chan on the bottom corner. The pages are also dotted on the inside edge, so they can be easily be torn away for cute notes.

"sokawaiisep2021_4"

"sokawaiisep2021_5"

We return once again to Sanrio, with this My Melody magnet clip. A pretty useful magnet to keep on your fridge, to keep those all important school calendars or class timetables on hand. It has a fairly strong clip on it, as well as a pretty powerful magnet which is a plus.

"sokawaiisep2021_6"

And now we get to our final item for this month, with this Pompompurin Sakura plushie bag. Not only is Sanrio’s favourite Golden Retriever mascot carrying its own sakura flower, but he has also been dyed a soft pink color to match. This bag is so incredibly soft, if you could remove the straps it would make a great plush to just cuddle. However this plush is indeed a bag and a rather spacious one at that. Not only was I able to fit my phone lengthways, I would easily get in a wallet and keys. You could very possibly be able to go out for an entire day and still manage to just use this handbag for your necessities. It does have a rather long strap as well. When extended to its last it does come to just above my hip - and I’m 5ft 2”. As for practicality, I don’t know what way you would style your outfit around this bag. It is incredibly girly and from where I live, it would be seen as incredibly childish to walk around with. Once again this is another item we have been sent that is either only going to get an outing at an anime convention or on the streets of Harajuku if one was lucky enough to go. Personally, I think SoKawaii needs to start rethinking exactly what they should be including in their boxes as I am strongly thinking of ending my subscription in the new year due to the impractical items such as this bag that are regularly featured. But hey, that is just my own personal opinion and taste.

So that is everything that was included in Septembers’ box from SoKawaii. Let me know what you thought about it in the comments below, or tag us across our social media. For me, this month's box was a bit of a let down. Having received yet another notebook, straw set and plush bag. The same sorts of items are being repeated a bit too often now for my taste. Although most are indeed practical, there is such a thing as having too much of one thing. Either way, let’s continue on with how YOU can order your very own subscription to SoKawaii!

So here is the price breakdown of the box each month and the savings you can get. SoKawaii are back to shipping their boxes via Japan Post, so delivery may take a number of weeks. Whether you subscribe month to month, or for their 3, 6 or even 12 month package options – there are savings to be had.

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

12 Months – $31.50 (€26.00mo roughly)

Better yet, here is a $3 discount code that you can use on your first box by clicking this link!

http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Now if you enjoyed September’s box, then just wait for Octobers’! This month we took an in depth look at what was included in Augusts’ box, which featured six items across Sanrio, Studio Ghibli and Kirby. Some were useful everyday items, others were decorative, whilst the rest were more from a beauty category. So let’s get started with the usual, and all important info!

For those of you that don’t know – SoKawaii is a company based in Japan, home of practically everything kawaii (the Japanese word for cute). So make sure to have your opinions heard over on their social media posts, particularly their Instagram one – https://www.instagram.com/sokawaii/

"sokawaiiaug2021_1"

Our first two items this month come from Sanrio and are of the plush variety. We have a small Pompompurin plush mascot on a keychain that is super soft and squishy. This little dough ball can simply be used as a normal bag charm, decoration or can even be placed in this very secure and dust free pouch - featuring Cinnamoroll. What would look like a normal plastic pouch, similar looking to a drinks holder, but features a Cinnamoroll plush head on top as a lid. The overall design reminds me of a vanilla milkshake, as there is a red & white straw sticking out of Cinnamoroll’s head. The clear plastic pouch makes it ideal as a small fashion accessory, if you want to carry another plush with you inside of it. However this could be aimed more at younger girls, but it only features a keychain attachment. Which if they wanted this to be worn as part of an outfit, it really should have been designed with a shoulder strap in mind. This item in my mind, is more aimed as a decorative item at home, rather than a fashion accessory.

"sokawaiiaug2021_2"

Moving on, we have our Kirby item! Of which we all received a fairly hefty sized tin of peach scented moisturizing cream, featuring our favorite pink skinned, competitive eater! This item was available in four tin designs, all limited edition and taken inspiration from a number of famous places in Japan. The one I received is a very tropical one, as it has the Okinawa design - the Hawaii of Japan.

"sokawaiiaug2021_3"

Our fourth item this month comes from Sanrio once again, but instead we get a mini spray bottle featuring Kiki & Lala from Little Twin Stars. This 30ml reusable spray bottle is perfect for those weekend aways, where you just intend on bringing a small amount of perfume, without any of the worry of thinking ‘what if the glass bottle breaks in the bag?’. This travel ready bottle is also ideal for other liquids, including toners. Pretty handy to have lying around in the house, as it’s not very often you can just pick one of these up in the shop without being forced to buy a multi pack or set.

"sokawaiiaug2021_4"

Moving on, we have a rather ‘unusual’ item. One that mightn’t be of much use to everyone, but will certainly be a huge hit with some individuals. Here we have a My Melody pill box, which is in fact two four compartment made medicine boxes which will be ideal to store your daily meds. However it is rather small, and also I do not see the point of it being made into two separate eight compartments, when most pill boxes either cover seven or fourteen days. I assume this might also be ideal for those that have piercings or contact lenses, as it’s simple to pop into your bag and there is nothing to say on it that it is essentially for medicine.

"sokawaiiaug2021_5"

And our final item this month comes from My Neighbour Totoro by Studio Ghibli. This award winning film that has captured many generations of viewers, ever since it was first viewed by audiences back in 1988, returns once more to a SoKawaii box with this reusable water bottle. Not only that but it also includes a tea infuser as well just under the lid. An interesting sight and a first for me, as I have never seen this in a simple water bottle design over here in Ireland before. I would assume that this is more for cold tea drinkers, as I doubt this bottle is meant to store hot liquids for long. This design is also the exact same as the one that was included on the My Neighbour Totoro tumbler that wa included in Nihon Boxes June crate this year.

"sokawaiiaug2021_6"

So that is everything that was included in Augusts’ box from SoKawaii. Let me know what you thought about it in the comments below, or tag us across our social media. For me, this was kind of just an okay box as the only items of interest to me were the Kirby cream and Totoro bottle. The rest felt more like fillers.

Now if you enjoyed August’s box, then just wait for September’s! It’s theme is “After School Party”, which will feature a number of items from Sanrio, Cardcaptor Sakura and Umaru-chan. That box is already sold out and on the way to me and will include a Pompompurin Sakura plushie bag. Stay tuned to SoKawaiis’ social media, as they announced their themes, sneak peaks and opinion polls on what fans want to see next in their boxes. They are very active on their Instagram and really listen to what their customers are looking for – so go have your say now! Also make sure and use that special discount code I left you all above!

"sokawaiiaug2021_7\

“Enchanting Matsuri”

Hello everyone, I am back once again with yet another SoKawaii review. This time we take a look at what was included in July's box, which just like the Nihon Box is all themed around celebrating the summer matsuri season. The products in this box are from Sanrio, San-X, Sumikko Guarashi and Pokémon.

"sokawaiijuly2021_1"

Our first item this month comes straight from San-X, with their Rilakkuma tray made from bamboo fibre. A more sustainable material that has become very popular with brands over the last few years, due to how quickly the plant grows and the fact it doesn’t need any pesticides. This tray has a lovely print on the front of Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori dressed in their colorful yukatas as they enjoy a night filled with fireworks and tasty treats. The ideal way to enjoy a matsuri festival in Japan. This tray also has a trademark on the bottom right for 2021, meaning this tray was only just recently released during this summer.

"sokawaiijuly2021_3"

Next up is our Pokémon item from the Pocket Monsters Sepia Graffiti collection. We actually received another item from this very same collection in last month’s box, with a washi tape. Now I am unsure as to how old this collection actually is, as I have seen on other websites that the washi tape was first released back in 2018. However this month we have gone a little more upscale, with this handy pouch case. This pouch is actually really well made, has a tanned look to it and you would almost expect that it was made entirely out of leather. The design on the front features an Eevee and Pikachu, as they do a bit of window shopping. As you can see, Eevee is taking interest in the three evolution stones on display in the window. Behind them is a cobbled street, with an old style phone box and lamp post. The whole look to this design, gives off a feel of old London in the last century. The script on the front is also pretty charming as well, as it gives a very brief description of the idea of Pokémon. Now the pouch is snug enough, you would certainly fit in a normal of pens and pencils, perhaps some make up or cash envelopes. Unfortunately it was too snug to fit my phone, so you would want a very slim model to fit into this pouch.

"sokawaiijuly2021_4"

Now we move on to Sanrio, with this pair of My Melody Kitchen sponges. Now this item was in fact available in two different designs, with the iconic Hello Kitty being the other pair you could receive. These die cut sponges are just adorable, that it would almost be a shame to use them to wash a mound of dirty dishes. However they are indeed practical and will certainly get you out of a pinch if you don’t intend on making a special trip to the shop.

"sokawaiijuly2021_5"

Where or where was this several weeks back during the big Irish heat wave! Honestly could have done with this a while back. So we now move onto the Sumikko Gurashi part of our July box, with this electric hand fan. This fan would be the perfect accessory to accompany you on a trip during a hot summer's day. It’s design is made to resemble an ice cream cone, with the characters of Sumikko Gurashi acting as the toppings. All you do is slide the cover over to reveal the fan, with a switch on the side to turn it on. Hopefully I can get better use out of this next year!

"sokawaiijuly2021_6"

And now we end with our final item, a Little Twin Stars plush. You could have gotten either Kiki or Lala in your July box, both of which are dressed in their light Summery Yukatas. Of which you can see I got Kiki in his blue yukata. This quality looking plush is well made, no loose threads or fabric. Well stuffed and stitched together. This could even be safe for young children to have. It is also a lovely addition for all plush collectors.

There we have it folks, that was Julys’ SoKawaii box. This month had a good mix of items, from a seasonal plush, a hand fan, a Pokémon pouch and some homeware from some iconic franchises.

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

12 Months – $31.50 (€26.00mo roughly)

Better yet, here is a $3 discount code that you can use on your first box by clicking this link!

http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Now if you enjoyed July’s box, then just wait for August’s! "Night Matsuri"

Hello everyone and welcome back to another subscription box review. Today I will be taking an indepth look into what was included in July's edition of Nihon Box. Which was filled to the brim, full of goodies you are sure to enjoy during those long summer days. So let's get started with the usual info.

Nihon Box is a Japanese monthly subscription service that handpicks at least 6 items each month that are almost exclusive to Japan and ships them straight to your door. Their items are a mixture of Otaku Anime related merchandise and figures, as well as traditional Japanese items, from sweets to tableware. All of this is available to subscribe to for what I find a very affordable price each month.

Like SoKawaii, the more months you pay upfront the cheaper the price for individual boxes will be. https://www.nihonbox.com/en

Monthly is €29.99 plus shipping costs

3 Months is a single payment of €86.97, making each box €28.99, plus shipping costs.

6 Months is a single payment of €170.94, making each box €28.49, plus shipping costs.

Due to the latest European VAT legislation, the overall cost after shipping has increased slightly. The folks behind Nihon Box have done all they can to make this transition as simple as possible, so they have taken the necessary steps & changes in order to include the VAT directly in the subscription’s price. This change will normally be effective starting from the next renewal of your subscription, with the addition of the VAT in the final price (19% for Germany). And from August, as a small gift of appreciation to their overseas customers they will be including a 1000yen gift card to their YattaJapan.com store. As an idea of how much the charge has gone up, prior to August I was paying €32.89 a month. The new price I pay now is €40.45 a month, which is a nice increase but I believe the value is still there within the box.

Here is a link to their FAQ page, just in case you’re wondering if they ship to your country: https://www.nihonbox.com/en/nihonbox/faq

"nihonboxjuly2021_1"

The first item this month is a beautiful Hatsune Miku Summer Matsuri PVC statue from Taito, measuring 18cm tall. This very colorful figure has so much going on in its design, that celebrates those famous summer festivals we have all seen in Japanese anime. This hologram diva is wearing a red, yellow and blue short yukata, with images of fireworks on one of her arm sleeves. Her accessories include a kitsune mask on her head, as well as a uchiwa hand fan in one hand and a candy apple (ringo ame) in the other. She is sure to make a great addition to the figure collection, which is ever growing thanks to these subscription boxes. If you have missed out on getting this figure, then I suggest getting in contact with Leanne’s Anime over on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/leannesanime/

"nihonboxjuly2021_2"

If you fancy mimicking Miku’s design and getting in the matsuri spirit, then you will certainly enjoy this small uchiwa matsuri fan. This accessory is perfect for the summer weather, it's lightweight and portable. Allowing you to fan yourself with a slight cool breeze as you enjoy the summer, no matter where you are. This is a traditional hand fan that is still pretty popular and iconic to own today. At least you never have to worry about your small electric fan running out of power, when you own one of these.

"nihonboxjuly2021_3"

Moving on, we have a serving tray, featuring the characters from ‘The Quintessential Quintuplets’. An anime that debuted from Tezuka Productions back in 2019. The series follows the daily life of a high school student Futaro Uesugi, who is hired as a private tutor for a group of identical quintuplets: Ichika, Nino, Miku, Yotsuba, and Itsuki Nakano. At the very beginning of the story, it is indicated Futaro will marry one of the Nakano Quintuplets but the identity of the bride is unknown until near the end of the story. The design on this tray is of the five sisters as they stand together in their yukatas, as fireworks explode behind their heads. This manga series has become very popular as of late, so I am sure there are a few fans of this series already that will be thrilled with this bit of unexpected merch.

"nihonboxjuly2021_4"

Now what is the best function of a tray, other than putting snacks on it?! So our next item this month is an Azuki flavour Taiyaki. Which is a common sight at festival food stalls. This fish-shaped sweet pastry dessert has a large filling of red bean paste (azuki). However the outer pastry tasted more like soft ice cream wafers, perhaps that might have been the impact of a long journey across the globe. Either way, I would assume this would taste better fresh.

"nihonboxjuly2021_5"

"nihonboxjuly2021_6"

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba returns once again in our Nihon Box, as we get a blind box from the Fuwakororin range. This series has six different character designs, all appearing as a mini round plush. The one I received is our lead man - Tanjiro.

"nihonbxjuly2021_7"

And now we get to our final item for Julys’ box, which is an Assassination Classroom towel. Why you may ask? A tad random maybe? Well Japan is damn HOT in the Summer, even during the matsuri festivals. So a towel is always essential to have on hand, especially for those that may be working and performing during these festivals. This ‘mini towel’, although pretty large in my opinion as you can see above as I hung it up on a door for size comparison. It’s bright yellow in color, with Koro Sensei’s face in the middle, with the shows title at the bottom of the towel.

So there we have it everyone, that was July’s Nihon Box. Did you like it? If so, comment down below or tag us on our social media to let us know what was your favourite item and if you have gotten your own subscription. Nihon Box always does their best to follow the latest anime trends as well as finding items from fan favorite shows in order to always appeal to their customer base. With items from Demon Slayer, Assassination Classoom and The Quintessential Quintuplets, to the worlds favourite hologram diva - Hatsune Miku. They not only source out some decent quality figures and plushies, but also to make sure that each month their box represents another unique aspect of Japan – from its food, to its culture, art, history and beliefs. It’s a well rounded box, for both anime and cultural fans. This box’s theme was “Night Matsuri”, and each pamphlet in every box also includes a detailed section called “Discover Japan”. This month’s topic was about Natsu Matsuri, as they give a detailed description of the many types of matsuri festivals that take place around Japan. Mentioning their origins and the importance of these to local communities. It’s details such as these that make this subscription box so unique and talked about.

"sokawaiijune2021_1"

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

12 Months – $31.50 (€26.00mo roughly)

‘Aki no Kizuna - The Fall Bonds’

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Nihon Box review, where today I take a look at what was included in November's box. So sit back and enjoy this Autumn season themed box. But first, a quick word about Nihon Box. The Anime and Japanese culture subscription box, with details on how you can sign up for your very own subscription.

All of this is available to subscribe to monthly, just keep reading along to see just how affordable it can be.

And from August of this year, as a small gift of appreciation to their overseas customers they will be including a 1000yen gift card to their YattaJapan.com store. As an idea of how much the charge has gone up, prior to August I was paying €32.89 a month. The new price I pay now is €40.45 a month, which is a nice increase but I believe the value is still there within the box. Now once it arrived in Ireland, I have been charged customs through An Post. Totalling just under €9euro the first month, with this particular box being around the €10 mark on top of the €40.45 I pay each month, making this a rather expensive price hike in the end. However this is all due to inflation and the recent customs changes within the EU, whilst Nihon Box is still cramming in as much value into the box as possible from their side.

Here is a link to their FAQ page, just in case you’re wondering if they ship to your country: https://www.nihonbox.com/en/nihonbox/faq

"nihonboxnov2021_1"

So let’s get started with the first item from November’s box, with this beautiful ‘Aki in Japan’ furoshiki. This piece of fabric is traditionally used to wrap up your bento or a gift, which is very eco friendly due to its reusability. Personally I will be using this as a decorative piece, although I haven’t decided how to as of yet. This particular furoshiki was made in collaboration with a professional craftsman in Kyoto, who has been doing this for the past fifty years. The design is based off of an Autumn scene featuring Mount Fuji in the background of a shrine.

"nihonboxnov2021_2"

Our next item this month is for all you Inuyasha fans out there, with this Sesshómaru noodle stopper figure. This boy has a bit of weight to him, that keeps him perfectly balanced when sitting on the edge of a shelf or indeed a Cup Ramen. This series of noodle stopper figures always have such unique poses, this one is no different. It’s well crafted, skillfully designed and indeed well painted. It can join my other Inuyasha noodle stopper on the shelf, which was included in September's Nihon Box from 2020.

"nihonboxnov2021_3"

We now move onto a slightly more recent anime franchise, with Haikyuu! This series follows a high school volleyball team as they compete in local matches, all the way up to nationals in order to repair their reputation with the assistance of a pair of talented new players. This series has a massive fanbase and Nihon Box has included it in this box with a Hug Chara Collection figure. This series of small plushies, are very cute but also useful. As within the arms will be a strong bull clip, which you can open and close by using the legs. With six characters to collect, every box will receive the main character of Shóyó Hinata.

"nihonboxnov2021_4"

We now move on to yet another Shonen Jump franchise with Hunter x Hunter. This franchise first began back in 1998 but has been on hiatus since 2018, but still carries a strong fan base. Due to this, it has been included with this Figurine Fuchipito collection from Re-Ment. With six characters to collect, these small detailed figures each have their unique pose and sit on top of a wooden box. Like the Noodle Stopper series, they are also designed to sit on the edge of shelves, die to how well they are balanced.

"nihonboxnov2021_5"

Our snack item for this month is the Kurobou Meimon. A traditional sweet and specialty of the city of Kurume, from the Fukuoka prefecture. Made from brown sugar, it carries its own unique taste that is unlike anything I have tried here in Ireland. It may not be for everyone's palette, as I didn’t find myself going back very quickly to finish the second one in the package.

"nihonboxnov2021_6"

So let’s begin with the item on the left, which is a loyalty item bonus that you receive several times during the year when you have a continuous subscription. It is always a delight to see what might be included for free every quarter. This time, it was a small keychain plush from the FairyTail and Mameshiba collab, but I can not seem to find when this is from so it may be an old release. It’s an interesting item no doubt and a collaboration I never would have put together, but it kind of works. It’s cute, right?!

On the right, is our new regular to every Nihon Box - a 1000 Yen gift card for their side company ‘Yatta Japan’. This time, the gift card is valid until next Summer. However at the moment, it doesn't appear to be a good time ordering from their website as the delivery option pricing is through the roof! At least for Ireland it is, no way I want to pay over €40 in shipping for items that barely come to €20. Fingers crossed they manage to sort this out in the new year, as I would prefer some economy shipping at least.

"nihonboxnov2021"

Our last anime related item of the box is the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba item pictured above. Which is known as an Eco Kairo in Japan, otherwise known as a reusable pocket hand warmer. I have not seen these items in years, not since I was in school. There is a gel inside that heats up as soon as a metal tab inside is broken, it just causes a chain reaction. In order to reuse it again, you just place it inside a kitchen cloth and then in boiling water. Within five minutes it will have returned to its original state, ready to be used again. Perfect for the current cold season. This is available in 10 character designs, all with their own unique backgrounds. Also in time for the latest season of Demon Slayer, which has just started airing over on Funimation And Crunchyroll.

"nihonboxnov2021_7"

And now onto our final item this month, with these Ukiyo-e coasters. This is a set of four coasters, traditionally made with washi paper. They feature images from four of the most famous Ukiyo-e paintings, including Kabuki (by Kunisada Utagawa), Meisho Hakkei (by Toyokuni Utagawa), Aka Fuji (by Hokusai Katsushika) and Two Women ( by Kitagawa Utamaro). All made by a company that has been specializing in washi paper for over 90 years. It is a shame however that neither the name of the company or any links to their work is never listed in the brochure. Hopefully they can add this information for future boxes.

So there we have it everyone, that was November’s Nihon Box. Did you like it? If so, comment down below or tag us on our social media to let us know what was your favourite item and if you have gotten your own subscription. Nihon Box always does their best to follow the latest anime trends as well as finding items from fan favorite shows in order to always appeal to their customer base. With items from Haikyuu, Demon Slayer, Hunter x Hunter and Inuyasha. They not only source out some decent quality figures and plushies, but they also make sure that each month their box represents another unique aspect of Japan – from its food, to its culture, art, history and beliefs. It’s a well rounded box, for both anime and cultural fans. This box’s theme was “Aki no Kizuna”, and each pamphlet in every box also includes a detailed section called “Discover Japan”. This month’s topic was about Momijigari, the hunt for Autumn. Where people go out of their way, to forests, mountains and even different prefectures in order to admire the changing of the leaves colors during Fall. It is also the perfect time to go out on a hike, as the Autumn brings a much needed break from the scorching Summer heat that Japan is known for. It’s details such as these that make this subscription box so unique and talked about.

It’s theme is “Wish Upon A Star”, which will feature a number of items from Sanrio, Pokémon and Cardcaptor Sakura. That box is already sold out and on the way to me and will include an exclusive Kuromi Pastel Rainbow plushie. Stay tuned to SoKawaiis’ social media, as they announced their themes, sneak peaks and opinion polls on what fans want to see next in their boxes. They are very active on their Instagram and really listen to what their customers are looking for – so go have your say now!

"sokawaiijune2021_1"

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

12 Months – $31.50 (€26.00mo roughly)

Better yet, here is a $3 discount code that you can use on your first box by clicking this link!

http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Also make sure and use that special discount code I left you all above!

King of Tokyo

We are now in full swing into this festive season and I am unsure as to when this particular review will be going up on the website - so either way I hope you are all in a jolly mood!

Now before I even had the review for the November box up on the site, the December edition of Nihon Box was already on my doorstep. The staff over in the warehouse has been working flat out in order to ship this month's box off a few weeks earlier, so everyone would have it in time for Christmas. So without further ado, let’s get started with the usual speel of how you can sign up for your very own Nihon Box.

All of this is available to subscribe to monthly, just keep reading along to see just how affordable it can be.

"nihonboxdec2021_1"

Our first item this month is a Shaman King figure from Banpresto. Seeing as Shaman King has had a remake just this year from Netflix, the merch and figures have begun to appear at a steady pace. So fair play to Nihon Box for including these figures in the final box of the year. With three characters available, including main man Yoh Asakura, his brother Hao and even Yoh’s fiancée Anna Kyoyama.

"nihonboxdec2021_2"

Our next item is from the infamous Dragon Ball franchise, with this Shenron towel. This towel is more of a long, narrow hand towel. Although it does very much look like a cool scarf. It also resembles the color of a christmas tree, so why not include it in the December box! Also who doesn’t want a towel of a mighty dragon?!

"nihonboxdec2021_3"

Following in Dragon Balls footsteps, is one of the more recent big hits from Shonen Jump - with Jujutsu Kaisen. This dark fantasy, supernatural adventure follows a young high school student named Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization in order to kill a powerful curse that has possessed him. This is a series I have yet to jump into myself, so let me know in the comments below or across our social media what your opinions are on Jujutsu Kaisen. So Nihon Box has included a plush in every box this month, to celebrate the release of the first Jujutsu Kaisen film in cinemas over in Japan. With four character plushies to collect, including Yuji Itadori, Gojo Satoru, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. They are a handy size, perfect to put on a shelf, seem to be well stitched together and dressed. I’m sure any JJK fan would be happy to own one of these.

"nihonboxdec2021_4"

Our next item is pretty damn well special, as it’s a 3D puzzle of Tokyo Tower. Even more amazing and something I did not realize until reading the leaflet, is that when you take it out of the packaging, the building parts are arranged in a way that they spell out Tokyo in Kanji. So in fact this item is actually known as a Kanji Model kit of Tokyo Tower. However I do have to say that although it was simple enough to put together, getting it out of the packaging and trying to remove all the little plastic bits that held it together - was a bit of a nuisance. This would be no issue at all for those that have had experience with model kits like Gundam.

"nihonboxdec2021_5"

Moving right along, we have the return of Kirby and his Limited Edition Beauty Care range. We have had this same exact range before where we received hand cream, this time it's back with lip cream. The packaging is just adorable and would make a lovely little gift, or even just used for display. The design also celebrates five different prefectures in Japan, including Okinawa, Kyoto, Yokohama, Osaka and Hokkaido. Only one of which is available in every box.

"nihonboxdec2021_6"

Next up, is a nod towards the new year as we all received a Tiger Dorei Statuette, to symbolize 2022 - The year of the Tiger. Those of you that have enjoyed the Fruits Basket franchise, will be all too familiar with the Chinese Zodiac and their animal spirits. Whereas over here in the West we are more familiar with the astrology zodiac, where the time of year you are born points out your star sign. In Japan, your zodiac animal is determined by what year you are born. With it coming full circle every 12 years to begin again. This particular statuette has a small bell inside, comes with its own little pedestal and traditional looking folding screen for some decorative background art. This is a lovely piece of Japanese culture to own and one day, I would like to own the rest of the zodiac animals in the same design.

"nihonboxdec2021"

We are almost at the end of this box, so hold on just a bit longer. Our latest recurring product has been a 1000 Yen gift card from Yatta Japan, which can be used on their website. Yatta Japan is also run by the same folks behind Nihon Box, where you can pre-order figures, buy Japanese snacks and even issues of Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine! The voucher can be used at check out, on all items except pre-orders. So watch out for that folks, also you can only use one gift card per transaction. Shipping is also a bit pricey for those of us in Ireland, as they only offer express shipping. Also don’t forget that you will have to pay Customs separately for anything from outside the EU through An Post when it arrives in the country. So it all adds up unfortunately.

"nihonboxdec2021_7"

"nihonboxdec2021_8"

Our final item this month was a small gift to every subscriber, that even came nicely packaged up in this decorative envelope. Inside are five Christmas treats, including Christmas Fugashi, Chocolate Umaibo, New Mochi Taro, Kyabetsu Taro and a mini Matcha flavored Kit-Kat! And that, dear folks, is everything that was included in December's edition of Nihon Box!

Did you like it? If so, comment down below or tag us on our social media to let us know what was your favorite item and if you have gotten your own subscription. Nihon Box always does their best to follow the latest anime trends as well as finding items from fan favorite shows in order to always appeal to their customer base. With items from Jujutsu Kaisen, Shaman King And Dragon Ball Z! They not only source out some decent quality figures and plushies, but they also make sure that each month their box represents another unique aspect of Japan – from its food, to its culture, art, history and beliefs. It’s a well rounded box, for both anime and cultural fans. This box’s theme was “King of Tokyo”, and each pamphlet in every box also includes a detailed section called “Discover Japan”. This month’s topic was about the extravagant way that Japan has adopted the Christmas holiday and how they give it its own unique twist. It’s details such as these that make this subscription box so unique and talked about.

It’s theme is “Too Cute To Spook”, which will feature a number of items from Sanrio, Pokémon and Twisted Wonderland. That box is already sold out and on the way to me and will include an exclusive Cinnamoroll plush.

They create monthly subscription boxes, jam packed with 100% licensed products from brands such as Hello Kitty, Pokémon, Sanrio, Studio Ghibli and more.

Now if you enjoyed August’s box, then just wait for September’s!

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

12 Months – $31.50 (€26.00mo roughly)

Better yet, here is a $3 discount code that you can use on your first box by clicking this link!

http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Now if you enjoyed July’s box, then just wait for August’s!

For more information on how you can order your own box, look to the top of this review and head over to the link below so you can sign up today!

"sokawaiijune2021_1"

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

12 Months – $31.50 (€26.00mo roughly)

Better yet, here is a $3 discount code that you can use on your first box by clicking this link!

http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Also make sure and use that special discount code I left you all above!

“Kawaii Under The Christmas Tree”

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Today we are going to do a recap of what was inside the very last SoKawaii box of 2021! The theme they ran with this month was ‘Kawaii Under The Christmas Tree’. Which certainly lived up to its name for sure. So let’s begin with the usual info on just who exactly SoKawaii is.

For those of you that don’t know – So Kawaii is a company based in Japan, home of practically everything kawaii (the Japanese word for cute). They create monthly subscription boxes, jam packed with 100% licensed products from brands such as Hello Kitty, Pokémon, Sanrio, Studio Ghibli and more.

"sokawaiidec2021_1"

Our first item straight out of the box is this holiday themed Summikko Gurashi plate. Made from bamboo fiber, making it more sustainable than plastic. This plate is a lovely addition to all your meals and snacks this holiday season, as it features all of the Summikko Gurashi characters in their festive outfits. This is also a SoKawaii exclusive, so you can’t even buy this item in the shops. Aren’t we lucky!

"sokawaiidec2021_2"

Next up is this pair of Pokémon hair scrunchies, aka go-go’s for all you fellow Irish folks. This item is available in 6 designs, including Pikachu and Jigglypuff. The pack will include two scrunchies of the same Pokémon, with the elastic matching the color of the character you receive. The main design will feature the head of the Pokémon enclosed in plastic with a number of small sparkly stars inside. It’s very cute looking, but I don't see myself using these very often.

Following that we have a small Keychain Photo holder from Disney. This item is available in seven character designs, a perfect size if you wish to carry a small sentimental picture on your keys. This item looks like it came from a gachapon series, worth just a few euros but will only grow in value when you add a cherished photo to it.

"sokawaiidec2021_3"

Our next item comes straight from Sanrio, with this My Melody soap case. There is just something about having a bar of soap in the bathroom, that is just more comforting to see than just a bottle of hand wash. This case is pretty well thought out, with the top being in the shape of My Melody's head and the bottom dish having built in slits that are there to allow the water to run out when you put the soap back. This item is sure to add just another touch of kawaii to your bathroom.

Our second last item is one that was previously announced prior to the boxes being shipped out. In celebration of season 4 after hitting Netflix, we have a Christmas themed Retsuko plush from the hit show - Aggretsuko! This item was available in every single box and was an exclusive plushie for SoKawaii. In which we got a medium sized Retsuko plush, in a Santa inspired outfit. This plush is sure to make a reappearance every year when the festive season returns!

"sokawaiidec2021_4"

And we are now onto our final item of 2021, with this Rilakkuma ‘Pajama Party’ Home Mat. Yes people you heard that right, I have received yet another mat in a subscription box! I think that now makes four in total, so fingers crossed that’s the end of it for a long time. However this is quite an adorable mat, featuring our trio of San-X characters - Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori. With slip mat bobbles on the bottom, so you don’t slip all over the place. This is certainly a great addition to a little girls room, or in my case - right in front of my wardrobe.

"sokawaiidec2021_5"

And there we have it folks, that was the end of our December box review from SoKawaii.

Better yet, here is a $3 discount code that you can use on your first box by clicking this link! http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Now if you enjoyed December’s box, then just wait for January's! It’s theme is “New Kawaii Horizons”, which will feature a number of items from Sumikko Gurashi, Sanrio and Kapibarasan. That box is almost sold out and will be my last SoKawaii box for a while. I may renew my subscription now and then depending on what will be included. Fingers crossed for some Fruits Basket!

In the meantime stay tuned to SoKawaiis’ social media, as they announce their themes, sneak peaks and opinion polls on what fans want to see next in their boxes. They are very active on their Instagram and really listen to what their customers are looking for – so go have your say now! Also make sure and use that special discount code I left you all above!

So for now, I hope you all had a great Holiday season and here is to a fun filled 2022!

All of this is available to subscribe to monthly, just keep reading along to see just how affordable it can be.

All of this is available to subscribe to monthly, just keep reading along to see just how affordable it can be.

Also make sure and use that special discount code I left you all above!

So make sure to have your opinions heard over on their social media posts, particularly their Instagram one – https://www.instagram.com/sokawaii/

It’s theme is “Too Cute To Spook”, which will feature a number of items from Sanrio, Pokémon and Twisted Wonderland. That box is already sold out and on the way to me and will include an exclusive Cinnamoroll plush.
Hello everyone and welcome back to our end of Summer fun edition from SoKawaii.

Now if you enjoyed August’s box, then just wait for September’s! It’s theme is “After School Party”, which will feature a number of items from Sanrio, Cardcaptor Sakura and Umaru-chan. That box is already sold out and on the way to me and will include a Pompompurin Sakura plushie bag.

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

Also make sure and use that special discount code I left you all above!
