Summary:
Issue #10 starts off with the Mach 5 crew lamenting about another big race, called the Great Fire Race. Trixie looks concerned, as the disappearance of Speed is still felt heavily within the Speed family. Tokage Kadar makes another appearance as he’s hyped to join the Great Fire Race; an highly anticipated race among seasoned racers.

Speed appears in his Mach 5 and taunts Tokage Kadar, as Trixie mentions that Speed has acted strange for the last few matches. She hints at his risky behavior and demeanor towards winning the races. Racer X appears at the scene, revealing to Speed that his change of behavior stems from being doused with V-gas, a compound that makes people become more susceptible to risky or aggressive behavior.
Racer X informs Speed that the more he gives into it, the more change he will see with his behavior. The race starts, and Speed races into the track without concern for his other teammates on the track. Fire pulses through the concrete as the racers drive through the volcanos and molten lava. Kadar throws a “Dragon’s breath” flamethrower towards the other racers, including Speed.

Racer X uses a grapple hook to grasp onto Mach 5, which slows Speed down in the race. The issue ends with a twist towards the Tiger Syndicate.
David Pepose’s writing keeps up with the speedy pace of this issue, and it doesn’t disappoint. Canola has impressed me this issue, as the colors pop out on each panel and the action was dialed in this issue. Fun gadgets, intense race scenes and more. Speed Racer continues to be a fun read.
Overall: 8/10
