Moltyn Launches its demo on Steam on October 6th

Every pixel of rock, water and lava is live matter. Melt a city into the sea, then build your own.

GRIFFITH, AUSTRALIA, 5 October 2026. Hingston Digital will release the free demo of MOLTYN, a superhero physics sandbox for PC, on Steam on Tuesday 6 October 2026 (6am Pacific / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST). The demo will also feature in Steam Next Fest from 19 to 26 October, and the game enters Early Access on 12 November 2026 at US$9.99. The demo is localised into nine languages and runs on Steam Deck.

In MOLTYN you have all the powers of the earth. Laser, gravity, water, lava, storm, freeze and a nuke each act as a real force on a fully simulated world: melt the ground, flood a city, freeze the sea and throw it. Buildings fall because their supports are gone, water evaporates into storm clouds and rains back down, and fly fast enough and the ground turns to lava.

The free demo includes:
– Five story missions, from a harbour rescue to a city-sized kaiju, a fight against a copy of yourself, a meteor storm and a job on the Moon. Each ends on a report card led by how much of the city is still standing.
– Two sandbox worlds, The Island and Blank Canvas, with the sandbox editor: spawn any NPC, object, vehicle or material, then switch straight back to superhero mode and play with what you built.

Early Access on 12 November adds the first 10 of 18 planned story missions, six sandbox worlds with every level unlocked in the editor, and local PvP in VS and Sandbox modes.

MOLTYN is made by one developer, Andrew Hingston, in Griffith NSW, Australia. The game passed 10,000 wishlists after its first trailer was shared by Indie Game Joe, and sits at about 21,000 today. A Steam playtest in September drew about 3,500 players; most survey respondents rated it 8 or more out of 10 for fun.

“Playtesters kept describing their best moment as something nobody scripted: freezing the ocean and throwing the slabs at the city, or digging under it until it collapsed,” said Andrew Hingston. “That’s the game. You get the powers and the physics, and the city reacts.”
