Today through February 20, more than 50 games have been discounted up to 85% by developers and publishers committed to finding cures for type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that impacts more than 9 million people worldwide. Following the sale, each participating company will make a donation to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), the leading global T1D research and advocacy organization.
Several of the discounted games have behind-the-scenes links to type 1 diabetes, including:
- Hexarchy — developer John White has a child with T1D
- realMyst Masterpiece Edition & Firmament — lead programmer Karl Johnson lives with T1D
- Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore, Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection & Tomba! Special Edition — publisher Limited Run Games’ CEO Josh Fairhurst lives with T1D
- Remastered Sam & Max Trilogy — executive producer Dan Connors has a child with T1D
The video editor who made the trailer for this event, Brandon Hunt, also lives with T1D, as do the streamers featured in the video.
The Game Over, T1D! Steam Sale was organized by Breakthrough T1D Play (formerly JDRF Game2Give), an initiative started by game industry veterans who are also T1D parents. Since 2019 the program has raised more than $5 million through Steam sales and Humble Bundles, charity streams, and in-game integrations.
