Hi Curt, it’s so wonderful to have you with us again.
Can you tell us about the origins of Super Mondo Mega Mutts?
Super Mondo Mega Mutts all came about from me wanting to do a high energy kinetic book that featured anthropomorphic animals in the vein of ninja turtles… but with dogs. Dogs are so much better than turtles. And more people have them as pets. So it felt like a good opportunity. I started sketching out the idea and pitched it to hunter gorinson at SDCC 2024 and now here we are. I think that was part of my pitch—you know what’s better than turtles? Dogs.
What made Juan Gedeon the right artist for Super Mondo Mega Mutts?
Juan is the go to guy for swole animals. It’s his bread and butter. There was really no other choice – we had him in mind from the start.

What breeds of dogs are the Super Mondo Mega Mutts?
Morkie, Chiweenie, Blue Healer, and a blue heeler / mutt mix.
How did you select which breeds of dogs to pick?
All the dogs are based off my family pets! So it really starts and ends with that – and matching them to the respective breeds.

What can you tell us about Wolf, Frankee, Griffy and Freddy?
Wolf is the young gun. The self proclaimed leader of the group. And sort of the most empathetic.
Frankee is the demolition expert. Loves watching things blow up but also pees inside the house.
Griffy is the high octane brawler–like cable and the terminator combined. But he’s reactive so sometimes he snaps.
Freddy is the cyber-ronin. He’s well adjusted but sometimes butts heads with Wolf.
What is The Gleam?
The gleam is a strange alien environment that crashed down and infected earth. What exactly is inside of the gleam is a mystery. The very mystery the dogs were sent in to solve when they returned and were altered in a way that eventually gave them their powers. It’s very inspired by Area X–but with our own sort of spin.

Who is Mojo?
He’s the leader of the group–the man with a plan. The eldest and sort of the professor Xavier of the crew. He’s based on my first dog from childhood, Mojo.
Can you tell us about the world in which Super Mondo Mega Mutts is set?
It’s set in a sort of exaggerated sci fi version of our own. But the whole situation with the gleam and street gangs who roam is inspired by the chaos that often unfolds in our own. Anytime there’s some sort of crisis in LA you see absolute insanity unfold–so that was a big catalyst for the book.
The first issue of Super Mondo Mega Mutts is a double-sized issue. Was that your idea?
Yes I love a giant sized first issue, it’s a great way to invite readers in, and Hunter and the crew at Oni were kind enough to indulge me. It’s one of the best first issues of my career.

What can you tell us about Super Mondo Mega Mutts?
It’s unmissable. A high octane action packed ultra violent sci fi romp featuring cute and muscular anthropomorphic dogs. Mutt up or shut up! In Stores july 22nd.
Can you tell us what other projects you are working on?
I’m doing Lost Fantasy and Fireborn at Image Comics. And in the coming months I’m getting ready to launch my first ever Kickstarter, the Objectivist – which is equal parts THE QUESTION and TAXI DRIVER. People can sign up here to follow the project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1084811771/the-objectivist
