SEPT. 23, 2026 (PORTLAND, OR) — Long before screens did all the work, radio plays asked audiences to build entire worlds from voices, music, and sound. TREASURE ISLAND REIMAGINED: JANE HAWKINS AND THE PIRATE’S GOLD taps into that same spirit, pairing an original graphic novel with live performance to bring Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure to the stage in an entirely different way.
Playwright, director, producer, and writer Jason Neulander developed the adaptation alongside artist Johnny Dombrowski (The Grail, Tales from the Crypt), colorist Lee Duhig (Daredevil), and letterer David Hutchison, placing Jane Hawkins at the center of Stevenson’s classic swashbuckling adventure.
On stage, more than 1,200 comic-book panels are projected on screen while a cast of three creates every character voice and Foley sound effect live before the audience. An original orchestral score by composer Sam Lipman and sound design by Buzz Moran complete the production, echoing the immediacy of old-time radio while the artwork unfolds across the stage.
Following its September 18 world premiere at Austin’s historic State Theatre, Treasure Island Reimagined is now headed to more than twenty venues across the United States.
