Summary:
This second issue starts off with Jackie Escatado traveling to see Jenny, his old flame and friend from the orphanage. We also see bits and pieces of Jackie’s new powers that he reluctantly represses, as shadow images appear in fragmented memories.
Jackie and Jenny continue to walk within the city until the angels appear again to capture Jackie, which starts an action-packed subway chase with his powers intact. This issue is packed full of action and close calls. The colors look great in this issue, from the dark colors in subway stations to the bright colors that shine from the angels. The issue ends with Jackie and Jenny escaping from the slaughter that the angels caused in the subway station; albeit to Jackie’s dismay, Jenny discovers his powers for the first time.
The artwork always stands on its own, and the dialogue is conversational. The drama continues to swell, as it’s harder for Jackie to conceal his newfound powers. I think readers who have already read The Darkness will enjoy this, along with readers who are into the superhero genre, with a slight bend towards antiheroism.
