“Spring Time, Happy Time!”

Hello everyone, I am back once again with another SoKawaii box to review. This time I have May’s box, which focuses on Spring Time. With a number of items dedicated to making your homelife that bit more kawaii, with merch from Sanrio, Studio Ghibli and San-X. So let’s get started with information on who SoKawaii is!

For those of you that don’t know – SoKawaii is a company based in Japan, home of practically everything kawaii (the Japanese word for cute). They create monthly subscription boxes, jam packed with 100% licensed products from brands such as Hello Kitty, Pokémon, Sanrio, Studio Ghibli and more. The items range from plushies to Gachapon, little figures, stationary, lifestyle, kitchenware and more. The staff at SoKawaii handpicks 5 to 7 cute & useful items exclusive to Japan, pack them up in a very decorative box and send it straight to your doorstep each month. You can also check out their Instagram for even more info and insights into what is currently trending in Japanese arcades and stores. As well as sneak peeks into what they could be including in next month’s box. They also listen to what you would like to be included in future boxes, by asking across their social media accounts. So make sure to have your opinions heard over on their social media posts, particularly their Instagram one – https://www.instagram.com/sokawaii/

"sokawaiimay2021_1"

So our first item this month is one I have longed to own - a Kuromi plush! This adorable plush mascot comes in her very own maid outfit, all set for the big Spring Clean. With an outfit that would fit right in with any maid café in Japan, Kuromi has a matching headband and bows as well. This officially licensed mascot comes straight from Sanrio, however she won’t be in every May box as there is also a My Melody version that could also be included. This was obviously the best item from the box this month for me!

"sokawaiimay2021_2"

Moving on to our second Sanrio item, which is a magnetic hook featuring a number of Sanrio’s most iconic characters. There were two designs available for this product, as it is unusual to find a magnetic hook as it leaves very few places to actually use it. Mine ended up being attached to the side of my cooker, so I can hang up my oven glove. It really makes you think, how many places have you in your home that you can actually attach a magne.

"sokawaiimay2021_3"

Next up is our kitchenware items for this month, which include a bowl and chopsticks. The bowl is actually made from bamboo fiber, which makes it more eco friendly than plastic and is also food safe. It even includes a fun looking Sumikkogurashi design on the inside, which will make a lovely little surprise for when you are done eating your food. Now I wouldn’t suggest putting this in a dishwasher, as it could either ruin the design or it mightn’t be suitable for high temperatures. Best keep with the old fashion way and wash it by hand.

Accompanying this bowl is two sets of chopsticks, featuring everyone's favourite My Neighbor Totoro from Studio Ghibli. These 21cm chopsticks (which I don’t really know they came in different sizes), are decorated at the top by the lovable character. Perfect for sharing a meal, or having as a back up.

"sokawaiimay2021_4"

Our final item this month comes once again from San-X with this super soft Rilakkuma pillow. This pillow is in fact more of a cushion, going by the size and shape. It’s quite soft, but not very ‘plump’ as though it could have done with some more stuffing for a more firm cushion. However if it was, it may not have fitted inside the box! This cushion of course has two ‘faces’ to it, with Rilakkumas’ face taking up the entirety of one side with flowers printed on the corners. The opposite side is more sparse, with a beautiful background filled with sakura petals and flowers. With Rilakkuma enjoying a Dango and Korilakkuma sitting beside him in the corner. We also have the little chick Kiiroitori sitting on top of a flower in the top corner. It really does make for a lovely throw pillow, but practicality not so much as there are so many warnings on the label that this cushion can never be machine washed. So once again, make sure and wash this one by hand if you need to.

"sokawaiimay2021_5"

There we have it folks, that was Mays’ SoKawaii box. Very Sanrio and San-X heavy in the merch, with a good mix of items. Now let’s get on to the all important information, for how YOU can begin your own subscription, as well as a special discount code just for you guys.

So here is the price breakdown of the box each month and the savings you can get. SoKawaii are back to shipping their boxes via Japan Post, so delivery may take a number of weeks. Whether you subscribe month to month, or for their 3, 6 or even 12 month package options – there are savings to be had.

1 Month – $35.00 (€29.00mo roughly)

3 Months – $33.50 (€28.00mo roughly)

6 Months – $32.00 (€26.50mo roughly)

12 Months – $31.50 (€26.00mo roughly)

Better yet, here is a $3 discount code that you can use on your first box by clicking this link!

http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Now if you enjoyed May’s box, then just wait for June’s! It’s theme is “Dreamy Creatures”, which will feature a number of items from Sanrio, Kirby, My Neighbour Totoro and Pokémon. That box is already sold out and on the way to me, and will include my very own Totoro plush! Stay tuned to SoKawaiis’ social media, as they announced their themes, sneak peaks and opinion polls on what fans want to see next in their boxes. They are very active on their Instagram and really listen to what their customers are looking for – so go have your say now! Also make sure and use that special discount code I left you all above!

Told you it wouldn’t be long before we had another SoKawaii box review. Due to the WorldWide pandemic at the moment, the postal service has also taken a hit. So just by chance, both my April and May boxes arrived at my door just days apart - thanks DPD. So let’s get started! May’s box ran with the theme of ‘Cozy At Home’, a theme that many of us can relate to in some ways as we have all more or else been told to stay at home unless absolutely necessary. Anyway enough of that! This box included products from Rilakkuma, Sanrio, Pokémon, Hamtaro and even the immensely popular game of the year - Animal Crossing.

Now onto the important details! Lets begin with the usual description of who SoKawaii is and what they have to offer. SoKawaii is a company based in Japan, home of practically everything kawaii (Japanese for cute). They create monthly boxes, jam packed with 100% licensed products from Hello Kitty, Pokémon, Sanrio and more. The items range from plushies to Gachapon, little figures, stationary, lifestyle, kitchenware and more. The staff at SoKawaii handpicks 6 to 8 cute & useful items exclusive only to Japan, pack them up in a very decorative box and send it straight to your doorstep. You can also check out their Instagram for even more info and insights into what is currently appearing in Japanese arcades and stores. As well as sneak peeks into what they could be including in next month’s box. https://www.instagram.com/sokawaii/

"sokawaiimay2020_1"

Our first item comes from the stationary aisle, with this photogenic Tower Stand from Pokémon. With the slanting shelves, you can store your pens with ease and with ready access to them without having to worry about the ink drying out. It could also be used for cosmetics and would serve the same purpose for both eyeliners, mascaras and lip glosses. This pink pastel colored tower features the iconic characters of Eevee and Pikachu playing about. It is available in two designs, with the other I believe being yellow and only featuring Pikachu.

"sokawaiimay2020_2"

Item number two is our Sanrio Sleepy Pushie. With eight characters available in the series, you will be given one at random in your box. Characters include Hello Kitty, Pochacco, Tuxedo Sam, Kuromi, My Melody, Cinnamaroll, Gudetama and Pompompurin. I of course got Pompompurin yet again, which seems to be the theme for the last number of boxes. Will I ever get a Kuromi?! Anyway all these characters come in their own adorable pajama set, with tired expressions and made of the softest mochi feel fabric. Which is very similar to what was used for the Pokemon Mochi Mochi plush from last September.

"sokawaiimay2020_3"

Now our third item is a bit of an unusual one, as we get a Rilakkuma Pillow Cover. Made of some sort of wooly fabric, this soft but very warm fabric sure isn’t going to help me sleep at night. I like my pillows cool to the touch! Now, where a normal pillow case would be only open on one end, this cover is more like a sleeve. The fabric reminds me of an absorbent bath towel, one that is sometimes seen stitched like a dress, to put on a child once they get out of the pool. So I may just keep this aside for now, as it certainly will not be used as a pillow case in our house. Makes me wonder, is this a common enough product in Japan? To have a pillow cover made of this fabric and with an opening on both ends.

"sokawaiimay2020_4"

We are now back to the stationary section with our fourth product. This time from this years’ biggest selling game - Animal Crossing. SoKawaii are on the ball this month as they tracked down an item that is sure to be enjoyed by those that love the franchise. With a lovely spiral notebook straight from Nintendo. I think there may be two styles available, going by the pictures of some boxes other people received. Both of which are cute, with the one above standing out above all else with the amount of iconic characters on the cover. The inside of the notebook also has some memorable patterns printed on each page, acting as a border.

"sokawaiimay2020_4"

Our fifth and final item comes in a Gachapon capsule. With a Hamtaro mini figure inside from the Hugcot Cable Accessories range. With five mini figures available, they can be used to hang onto your cable wires. This is mostly targeted for the purpose of using it on the tip of your phone charging cable, in order to prevent damage and splitting the cord. Now this is done by running the cable through the hands of the little Ham-Ham, but many of my cables were too big to do this. Either way, its still a cute mini figure to have. And that is it now for May’s box, so let’s get down to the pricing.

So here is the price breakdown of the box each month and the savings you can get. Whether you subscribe month to month, or for their 3, 6 or even 12 month options. Depending on what option you choose, the cheaper the box is each month.

1 MONTH – $35.00/€31.77mo

3 MONTHS – $33.50/€30.40mo

6 MONTHS – $32.00/€29.04mo

12 MONTHS – $31.50/€28.59mo

Better yet, here is a 10% discount code that you can use on your first box!

http://sokawaii.refr.cc/maryhealy

Now if you liked everything you saw in this review of May's crate, rest assured that the items are different every month. Each box has 6 to 8 items included and a few of them will be revealed online through SoKawaiis’ social media as the weeks go by. June’s box theme is “Smile Everyday”, which will feature goods from Kirby, Sanrio, Pokémon and Studio Ghibli, with a few of the products included already announced across their social media.

Click on the link below to sign up today and get their newsletter - https://www.sokawaiibox.com/

This service also offers free shipping, but I do suggest spending that extra few coins to get the tracked shipping, so you can locate your parcel once dispatched. Especially during these unprecedented times, as with the extra few euros spent on shipping, you could get your box within a matter of days instead of weeks just like I did. So that is May’s ‘Cozy At Home’ box done and dusted, I will be back again next month to show you what June’s box has in store!

Hello everyone, I am finally back once again with another SoKawaii box review. Now I haven’t done one of these since March, as due to the current Covid situation my boxes were delayed in Japan due to postal restrictions. So with the incredibly helpful people over at SoKawaii, who have found new means of shipping their boxes without using the regular Japan Post service, I have reached both my April and May boxes just days apart. So let’s get started shall we? Aprils’ theme was ‘Sakura Paradise’, which was timed perfectly with the cherry blossom season in Japan. So the items inside this box are all sakura and pink themed. With licensed items from Cardcaptor Sakura, Rilakkuma, Sanrio, Pokémon and Milky!

"sokawaiiapril2020_1"

First off we have our Sakura Cinnamoroll plush pouch. This adorable and super cuddly small to medium plush comes in a light pink tone, with sakura flowers embroidered around its head and lower torso. It comes with a keychain clip at the top of its head, so you can attach it to a bag. As well as a small zipper at the back of the plush’s head, with the tiniest pocket inside. Now I don’t see this being a useful item, just more of a decoration. As with such little room inside the pocket, you might only be able to fit a lip balm if you’re lucky.

"sokawaiiapril2020_2"

Next up we have our Rilakkuma lap blanket. This soft blanket is decorated with many cherry blossom prints, surrounding Rillakkuma as he enjoys a traditional dango dessert. Now this isn’t a massive blanket by no means, but would be good to use as either a lap blanket or even a small picnic blanket. The only issue I have is that all the details regarding what fabric was used for this blanket is all in Japanese on the tag. No additional information was given on the leaflet inside the box either. Going by the pictures alone, it can be washed at 40 degrees. Just maybe don’t put it in a dryer.

"sokawaiiapril2020_3"

Now onto our Cardcaptor Sakura item, where we received Kero-chan in a filled dome keychain. Now although the tag on the keychain pictures both Kero and Suppi, Kero appears to be the only option to be included in this months’ box. A bit disappointing as it is very rare to come across any Suppi/Spinal Sun merch. This keychain seems rather sturdy and comes with a good quality metal clip, so you can attach it to your keys or bag. That way you can always have the iconic Guardian of Light mascot over your shoulder as you travel. I would have preferred a more practical item instead of a keychain, as I am a big fan of the franchise.

"sokawaiiapril2020_4"

Our fourth item is an official Pokémon Re-ment figure from this year's new ‘Forest 4 Cherry Blossoms Sakura’ series. With six parts to collect to finish your tree, the characters include Pikachu and Hoppip, Torchic, Butterfree, Squirtle, Plusle and Minun, and Shaymin. I received the sleeping Torchic in my blind nox. Let me know in the comments below, which set you got?

"sokawaiiapril2020_5"

Our exclusive Made in Japan item this month, is a bowl. With a deep red color painted inside the bowl and a black finish on the outside. It is all made even more decorative by a number of cherry blossoms painted on the outside. Now according to the leaflet inside the box, this item is dishwasher safe but can not be used in an oven or microwave. So be careful of that. Now this bowl appears to be more for decorative purposes, than tableware. As I don’t see any information on what paint was used on the bowl and is it food safe. Now I received a bowl similar to this a few months back from Nihon Box, but they clearly had the better quality product. As this bowl from SoKawaii seems rather cheap in comparison and looks like it just came off the shelf in a 100Yen shop (think Poundland/Dealz). At the moment, I’m using mine just to throw my keys in.

And lastly, as if to make up for the disappointment with the bowl. SoKawaii included chocolate in their box! Not just any chocolate, but some iconic Milky Chocolate with Peko-chan on the front. And to tie in with this month's theme, its’ Sakura Pink flavor! This limited run item is only sold during Sakura season in Japan, and seeing as I am as far away from Japan as possible right now - this brings me joy! I am also amazed it survived the massive 9,500km journey without either breaking or melting! That is a win in my books!

So here is the price breakdown of the box each month and the savings you can get. Whether you subscribe month to month, or for their 3, 6 or even 12 month options. Depending on what option you choose, the cheaper the box is each month.

This months’ is obviously themed around L-O-V-E, with Valentine's Day this month. Coincidently, my box actually arrived to me on Valentines Day! This month’s box features a number of officially licensed products from Kirby, Sumikko Gurashi, Sanrio and more!

First off lets begin with the usual description of who SoKawaii is and what they have to offer. So Kawaii is a company based in Japan, home of practically everything kawaii (Japanese for cute). They create monthly boxes, jam packed with 100% licensed products from Hello Kitty, Pokémon, Sanrio and more. It’s super soft, well made and is a perfect gift to receive on Valentine’s Day (or White Day next month for you ladies over in Japan). Now the heart that Rilakkuma is holding, is actually hollow inside, so you could get creative and put an extra gift in there for your loved one, if you do plan on giving it away. There is also an interesting design on the back of Rilakkuma, with a sewn on zipper. It seems to follow the same design that they used for the character in the Netflix series.

"sokawaiifebruary2020_2"

Moving on, I got three Pokémon products in this box. First off is the sheet of Eevee stickers, which also includes some images of Pokéballs & evolution stones. As well as the adorable Pokémon Eevee jumping about and playing. Carrying on with the Pokémon stationary theme, we also received an Eevee pen! I mean I have been loving these pens that they include in the box every few months, as I am still using my pink Kirby pen now. Now leaving the stationary theme behind, we move onto baking with a two pack of cake moulds. Now I received the Pikachu version, but you could have also gotten Pompompurin. I haven’t a clue how to read the writing on the back of the packaging, but going by the leaflet inside, the mould is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe! Can’t wait to use these soon, but what recipe should I use?

"sokawaiifebruary2020_3"

Next up is another kitchen item, with this cute and very useful Hello Kitty spatula. It seems pretty sturdy, but I am not sure how heat resistant its’ going to be so just be careful when using it. For all of you that love your coffee on the go, SoKawaii also included a Sumikko Gurashi cup sleeve. If you have ever bought a hot drink to go over the years, you know how fast those disposable cups heat up! The cup sleeve is designed to save you from burning the finger prints off of your digits. The packaging is actually really cute, as it comes on a disposable cup just to show off what the sleeve is actually for. Now do be aware that the cup isn’t made to actually put drinks in! Its’ only used as packaging, so I wouldn’t trust even pouring some water in the cup as it would probably seap right through the bottom.

"sokawaiifebruary2020_4"

Now onto the final item of the box and I have a few issues with this one. All boxes received the Kirby’s Dream Land Terrarium, but I wonder how many had the same experience as me. So there were six designs available and it was a mystery which one you would get. Now mine for some reason came with two sets of mini figures, which meant I didn’t get the rest of the crystal decorations which were supposed to be going around the side of the figures. So mine looks only half finished and is kind of disappointing to look at. Also only Chilly was the only character with a hole in his bum so you could actually fix him down to the base. Kirby and the tiny snowman keep falling over as they have nothing to fix them too. Half tempted to just glue them down. Now these issues have nothing to do with SoKawaii, but with ReMent instead, who are the manufacturers of this bind box series. It is just disappointing to receive a figure that you could not complete.
