Five years later and the anniversary of the tragedy is being marked. Emma (Vera Farmiga) and her daughter, Madison (Millie Bobby Brown) are now living at Monarch Outpost 61 in China. An experiment using sound frequencies is being done on a huge creature named Mothra. Things don’t go as planned though when a group of terrorists storm the facility and kill everyone there. They take Emma and Madison captive and escape, though not before releasing the creature. Meanwhile in Colorado, Madison’s dad, Mark (Kyle Chandler) is living a solitary life, working on his own sound research. A group of scientists arrive and ask for his help plus there’s also the fact that his family has been forcibly taken. He agrees to come with them, but solely to get his family back. Why have Emma and Madison been kidnapped? And why have the terrorists freed Mothra? It’s not long before a familiar creature re-emerges from the depths of the ocean...

"GodzillaKingoftheMonsters1"

The first film, ‘Godzilla’, was released back in 2014 and was a huge success in the box offices, making a huge $200 million in the US and $529million in worldwide sales. The success of this movie has led to this ‘Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters’ movie and also the forthcoming Godzilla vs Kong film, which is due for release next year.

If you watched the first Godzilla movie then you should have a pretty good idea of what to expect from this one. There’s not really much of a concrete story running through but if you’re not too concerned with that, then you will probably really enjoy it. The creatures/ Titans in this movie look pretty realistic though and there’s quite a few punch ups between them which are amazing to watch. There’s also some slightly comedic touches via comments from various characters, which does add to the mood of the film as a whole.

"GodzillakingoftheMonsters2"

The main stand-out human character in the film for me, is Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Madison. You may recognise her from a small TV show called ‘Stranger Things’. She’s really come along in leaps and bounds as an actress in the past few years and we’ll probably be seeing her in a lot more things in the future.

A big blockbuster of a movie, go see it if you love your films loud, explosive and full of enormous monster fights. Devastated by the news, Tim travels to Ryme City to put his dad’s affairs in order. When he arrives at the apartment, he discovers the place in disarray and is shocked to find a Pokémon hiding in one of the rooms. The small yellow creature named Pikachu begins speaking to Tim and both are shocked when they find that they can understand one another. After some deliberation, the pair decide that they must work together to find out exactly what happened to Harry, Tim’s dad and Pikachu’s partner.

"pokemondetectivepikachu1"

Created in 1995 by Satoshi Tajiri, Pokémon is a huge media franchise started in Japan. Nintendo are currently the sole owners of the Pokémon trademark. The basic premise is that humans (Trainers) catch and train Pokémon creatures to battle against each other for sport. The game was originally released for the Nintendo Game Boy back in 1996 and currently, Pokémon is the largest grossing media franchise of all time.

If you are not familiar with the Pokémon phenomenon, it would be a little surprising in this day and age but it could be something that has passed you by. On first watch of the trailer and hearing the voice of Ryan Reynolds, you expect this to not be in any way a kids movie. Surprisingly though, it’s actually a well written and acted story. The CGI is pretty spectacular too and you almost believe that these creatures are real and actually exist. It’s the wise-cracking Detective Pikachu though who pretty much steals the whole movie, with his observations and asides.

"pokemondetectivepikachu3"

Rated PG, your kids/ nieces and nephews will definitely want to see this movie. It’s always surprising how the longevity of these things seems to run. It almost feels like Pokémon have been around forever in a variety of forms, with the last big craze being the ‘Pokémon Go’ phone game, where people could hunt for Pokémon in the real world.

Don’t assume that this is solely a kids movie, because it really isn’t. There’s lots for both adults and kids alike and you could even go and see it with your buddies on a night out. There’s probably a whole different cut of this movie somewhere, more geared towards an adult humoured audience and hopefully that will see the light of day at some point.

Overall: 8.5/10

Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros.
