Observer: System Redux is a psychological horror thriller set in a futuristic cyberpunk world. You play the role of Daniel Lazarski (Rutger Hauer) an observer detective. You investigate an anonymous call and you follow this journey through this dystopian world.

The first thing is the striking visuals mixed with the mixture of cyberpunk elements, modified humans and a sense of unease of your surroundings. It's a first-person detective game where you have to get to the bottom of a series of strange events. As a neural detective, the key elements involve investigating crime scenes using your additional powers (human mods). There is one critical ability which is the ability to hack the minds of humans. Observer draws on this gameplay mechanic to help further the investigation. It's also used for dramatic effect to provide further tension, suspense and horror to the game.

"observer_r1"

The voice acting is superb, the interactions with NPCs is fantastic, there is an amazing amount of detail. Corridors and hallways are dimly lit, it's a dark world with neon lights that stand out. The artwork, levels and the whole game combines all the aspects superbly. The game is linear but there is a wonderful build-up of the atmosphere, tension and dread throughout. The voice acting and characters you meet make each interaction noteworthy and interesting. It all plays into this fantastic horror game. The tone, music, and effects all add to the air of uncertainty too.

"observer_r2"

I played on the Xbox Series X, this version has updated graphics (textures, models and effects), the graphics look superb and provides a much-needed update for next-gen consoles. PS 5 and Xbox Series X support 4K at 60 fps, this is with no ray tracing.

"observer_r3"

Characters, details, voice acting and cinematics add a superb sense of dread, horror and an uneasy sense to the whole game. This game has a tense and thrilling atmosphere that underpins the whole game. It's eerie, moody and full of dread. The game gets the mix of cinematics and cyberpunk elements right. All the elements work amazingly well together.

A group of scientists and engineers from the Orochi group are carrying out a variety of botanical research to understand Martian soil and thereby try to find water, bacteria or any type of living thing that may be useful for the company's interests and plans. This important and secret mission requires professionals prepared and ready to face a routine that will put you in areas never seen before and, of course, in very different conditions than we are used to.

In this first-person action game, you play as Shane Newehart, a mechanical engineer who takes care of all the functional parts of this research base but has little idea of what the real objectives of this mission are. Your stay on this planet has resulted in nightmares, visions, and hallucinations. It is with these characteristics that Lovecraft-inspired terror gains strength.

Your character wakes up after a pretty big earthquake, they are pretty common, but this time they had an unusual impact of destabilizing a lot of the base's equipment, mainly the photovoltaic arrangement that contains several solar panels to capture the energy of the installation. In this first moment, you will be assigned to fix all the affected sectors, this is where the game will present the Martian routine that will be very immersive, thanks to the beautiful visual and sound effects. The commands and interactions also help in the experience, because in Moons of Madness you will need, for example, to convert the atmosphere inside the installation to the same one as the planet, without forgetting, of course, to put on the helmet so as not to die without air.

Moons of Madness gameplay consists of walking, running, crouching, crouching, scanning the environment and interacting with objects that show the interaction icon. In other words, no jumping or attack button, making the focus of the gameplay is the exploration and solving of puzzles. This can make the game seem a little slow, especially for players used to action-oriented games. But the game still manages to impose its rhythm, either to escape from something that chases you in the shadows or to cross the Martian desert to the next decompression chamber before the oxygen in your suit runs out.

"moonsofmadness2"

Some doors need access cards, unlock levers or open with the proximity. The equipment is full of buttons that need to be pressed in the correct order to perform their actions. The sound, on the other hand, is sometimes null, and we are left with only the muffled sound effect of the wind outside, which will make you tense, especially when things start to get dark. All these details are very welcome and make the player feel like a real space explorer.

Shane's main equipment is the biosensor, a type of remote control that is connected to almost all equipment at the Moons of Madness station. With it, you can tune the solar panels, unlock doors, control cameras, power systems, and many other functions, in addition to showing what your next tasks are and organizing your inventory. The equipment will also be useful for solving many puzzles and will sometimes show the way if it gets lost.

In an attempt to help stabilize the installation, you will explore areas that you should not, as you do not have authorized access. But it is through this that the engineer will begin to discover that the Orochi group hides things even from this team. As you go into the secret rooms your hallucinations will become stronger. And it is not a surprise, after all, the environment begins to have a dark look, the study plants curiously spread all over the place and are even similar to what he saw in his dreams.

From now on, the climate will no longer be the same and you will have to face your fears, but do not think that there will be fighting with armaments. In fact, Moons of Madness is focused on storytelling and puzzles. Here, the atmosphere is usually composed of a lot of suspense and some jump scares. The creatures are real enough to harm you, but to get rid of them, just run away or solve puzzles that are mostly very smart and even require you to write down codes on paper and then organize them in an order that makes sense.

"moonsofmadness3"

The base is filled with documents and information about the mission. In the secret areas, you will discover Orochi's real interests. In times of madness, you will also have access to data from the character's past. But what is true? It will be up to you to determine what is real in this story and to know what you are fighting against.

Graphically the game is awesome and does an excellent job of creating the Martian environment, including all the claustrophobia of relying on space suits and pressurized buildings. Another positive point is how Moons of Madness can use light and shadows to create an even more immersive experience, at various times you will be in dark places and think twice before turning on your flashlight because sometimes the dark is better. The scenarios deserve full attention! Because there are extremely rich in detail and help to tell the story that is being unfolded.

In terms of sound Moons of Madness is stunning, the game has an awesome soundtrack and it brings a great immersion to the environment, it reminds me of the soundtrack from Resident Evil 1 where the game has very subtle music on the background just the right amount to give you the creeps, the sound effects themselves are also very competent. And it is through the sound effects that you feel the protagonist's mental integrity diminishing as madness seems to take hold, this occurs in the form of whispers, noises coming from nowhere and the dialogues that Shane has with himself. As already mentioned in the first paragraph, this is an example of a game to be played with good headphones and to enjoy first-hand all the terror and madness that the sounds of the game bring.

"moonsofmadness4"

Moons of Madness is an FPS horror game that has influences from other established genre titles, such as those from the Amnesia series, SOMA and an environment that resembles Alien: Isolation and it is certainly a very fun experience with several “jump scares”, perfect for playing alone at home with good headphones. The game has a tense and thought-provoking story that is worth knowing, a pity that does not last as long as we would like. But how the gameplay puts us to experience the routine of this space engineer, fiddling with equipment full of buttons, creating chemical formulas to solve a puzzle is undoubtedly very fun and immersive. It is up to us to decide if what we see through Shane Newehart is real or if he has gone mad thanks to the isolation he has undergone on this mission. It is an excellent choice for fans of horror games and puzzles and fans of H. P. Lovecraft.

Some details are worth a mention, things like being able to choose if the camera will simulate like you were walking (This is optional because some people could get motion sickness with it), to achieve full immersion on this game it will one depend on you, it is really inserting that they show you how would it be the routine of a space-engineer. I'm usually not really into games of “hide-and-seek” that to fight a boss you have to run from it, but this one got me hooked, I think it was the theme, I'm fascinated by space and also a massive fan of Lovecraft.

Extra: a funny story that happened whilst I was playing, I got to this very tense part of the game right? When the only sounds that were coming from my headphones were my footsteps… When suddenly I start hearing a baby crying! Then I thought… oh, that's perfect! nothing creeps me out more than a freaking baby crying when there should not be any babies around! But… I removed my headphones and it was just my neighbours’ baby crying… I gave a break from the game for a few hours hahaha…

Overall: 9/10

Developer: Bloober Team

Platforms: PlayStation 4 (Reviewed), Xbox One, PC

Genre: Adventure, horror

Publisher: Bloober Team NA

Blair Witch is a game based on the movie from 20 years ago. The game uses the mythology created for the original movie - from the Witch's legend and the murders in the Black Hills forest to the disappearance of the three young people responsible for the documentary - to explore the narrative of a man troubled by his past, and the dog that follows you.

The Blair Witch game takes place in 1996, a few years after the disappearance of the trio Hannah, Mike and Josh (The movie characters) in the forests around Burkittsville, Maryland. This time, the player, in the role of former police officer Ellis, explores the area in search of young Peter Shannon, a boy who disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
As the story unfolds, it is possible to discover more of Ellis's past, her relationship with Peter's family, and his earlier traumas, which are beginning to be manipulated and exploited by the mysterious forces that command the forest.

During his search, Ellis has as main partner Bullet, a dog able to sniff and detect information and hazards in the region including clues, monsters, the iconic stick figures that are scattered throughout the area (What an amazing dog right?!).

"blairwitch1"

The combat works based on the claimed game Alan Wake and Heart of Darkness (I’m joking hahaha it doesn’t resemble to Hear of Darkness even though you also kill the enemies with light), with the player throwing his flashlight into enemies based on Bullet's placement. Some enemies that run from the light. But there are those which get mad at it. After a while the game merges the two mechanics, using our camera through its viewfinder, you can see the best path by not looking at enemies and not pointing the light at them. However, the camera has much greater importance in the gameplay.

The dog is very important in all the mechanics of the game. Although the game warns us that it needs to be handled well, warning that this will reflect on the way it will act during the game, in reality, nothing happens if you fail to cuddle him or nibble. Perhaps the idea was to get Bullet to helpless or more during the adventure, depending on how we treat him. But in the end, the difference is minimal in all cases.

Two concerns I had with this game were, the character (Ellis) movement is very stiff and it’s hard to follow bullet’s movements sometimes… And also, a game feature that works like this, if you find a red tape and watch it, you can pause the video and the objects that appear on the tape TRAVELS IN TIME and appear in front of you! And not just small objects like a baseball GIANT TREES AS WELL… yeah! “Oh, a broken tree is blocking my path… no problem I’ll just watch this tape here and go back to when it wasn’t blocking my way… done” … WHAT?! I mean I understand that in Blair Witch's film we have the camera as one of the key elements for the experience and since that it is a game, it would not work the same way as the movie. So, the game adapts the camera to use in another way. (I just didn’t like it)

"blairwitch2"

But what calls our attention on the game and I can guarantee it is the game’s big strength, is the way the Bloober Team uses the forest setting to create a scary environment. Although the game relies heavily on the notorious jump scares, the main moments of tension come precisely from the feeling of being lost in a strange and inhospitable place walking around in circles without knowing where you are going (that getting lost could be annoying but it does go well with the game and it DOES give you some anxiety moments) and also common… that’s the essence of the mood from the original Blair Witch movie.

Concerning the ambience, developers also deserve applause for the excellent sound design, which uses forest sounds (breaking branches, wind currents, or even pure silence) to enhance the feeling of loneliness and tension in the forest, which sometimes not even a companion dog can help.

Even with some bugs, if there is one thing, we should give to the game is the look and the immersive sound of the game. Although there are some technical issues, such as changing the scenery in front of you or forced transition in some looping moments, most of the time we have a well-polished game.

"blairwitch3"

So, we soon put the problems aside and started to pay attention to what stands out. Each new area has the atmosphere of terror intensified with the looks. These are beautifully scenarios that, with just a few color changes, make the same place look different. Combine that with impeccable sound quality (already mentioned) and you'll have a horror game that doesn't appeal to easy scares. Playing this game with a headset is a delight, but terrifying.

The narrative also becomes much more engaging as the game unfolds, mingling a bit of psychological horror. Also, at least in my early game session, the development team knew how to subvert expectations by using the mechanics and objects in the world to complete the story.
Anyway, Blair Witch is a relatively quick experience, but it works by using the best elements of the movie to create a narrative of its own.

To wrap it up, I found the game ok… But it does gives you exactly what it was supposed to deliver, I just expect more…but if you are an “Amnesia” fan you will probably love this game.

Overall: 6.5 out of 10

Returnal is the next generation sci-fi based roguelike 3D person shooter from Housemarque that is exclusive to PS5. While this intro tries to summarise the game in a short sentence it doesn't do this game the justice it deserves. The game thematically lies somewhere between sci-fi, mystery and some horror elements this is due to the Alien-esque nature of encounters with the enemies. The gameplay is a roguelike as you die a lot and lose the majority of your perks apart from a few permanent items as well. The game covers a lot of genres of game and themes too.

You are Selene who has crashed landed on Atropos (an alien planet) where you are searching for a broadcast signal and this is all you know and this is how the story is set up. From the initial frame, the impressive cinematics and the crash land help to set up the story and mystery of the game. Very little is given away which creates a level of intrigue and mystery, this is all set in the beautiful dark and wonderful of Atropos. The design and layout do give off Alien vibes throughout the game. As the game is a roguelike where you will die a lot, more story elements and your understanding of the world grows with every cycle (loop) of the game.

It's difficult to pinpoint and place the game in one genre but the game has elements of Hades, a bullet hell shooter, Doom, Metroid Prime and the Hades comparison comes from the roguelike nature as well as some well-crafted storytelling wherein each cycle more is revealed. Doom in terms of the fast-paced shooter elements but 3rd person. The bullet hell feels of the enemies you encounter and just the manic nature of the enemies you encounter. There are lots of platforming elements too and an amount of discovery at each level.

"returnal1"

The levels are procedurally generated so each run will have a varied gaming experience and a novel feel, also each run will have a slightly different difficulty level too depending on what power-ups are available.

The power-up system is varied due to various upgrades and collectable items. Straight-up power-ups that have a positive effect include weapon upgrades, health upgrades and efficiency upgrades. You can fabricate and make other upgrades too. Then you have malignant upgrades/power-ups that can have positive as well as negative effects, the negative effects can be removed by completing specific tasks or you may be lucky and avoid the negative malignant effect. The game has a multitude of effects and events that will vary each run and which can make the run easier or tougher as well. There is a huge emphasis on risk and reward throughout the choices you make. That's why I'd also classify that the difficulty varies depending on your run, upgrades available and the procedural levels that are updated.

Each loop/cycle whereby you die and come back act as a learning and help to introduce into other devices in the game such as collectable items, upgrades and power-ups. It will take several deaths in the game before you start the whole power-up systems as well as the collectables available and their power. Every inevitable death allows you to progress further in the story but also allows you to start with more permanent power-ups. The game does a great job of walking you through each element and its potential effect. I enjoyed that you learned more and more things as you progressed.

"returnal2"

The game starts in this dark rain-sodden forest where very little is known, the detailed environments add the dark atmospheric vibes. Even though the levels are procedurally generated there is a good mix of items to collect and platform elements amongst the all-out shooter action. The game uses some clever narrative technique including the use of 1st person view for story elements and that you pick up voice messages from yourself all over Atropos. You are primarily in 3rd person view which gives you a broad view of each area and heightens the gameplay elements. Each voice note adds a little more detail of what is going in the world and helps the drive.

The world reminds me a lot of the film Prometheus with a clear Alien vibe throughout the whole game. While I wouldn't classify the game as a horror it does give that sense in large parts of the game as enemies spawn out of nothingness. Even though each level isn't huge, the art style and level design give the game a huge sense of scale and the huge world that exists. The game melds level design, Alien themes and this dark atmospheric tone which gives the sense you are a small survivor in a huge vicious world.

A lush map that helps to guide you from level ("room") to level provides a navigation mechanism and helps you to find upgrades and power-ups whilst giving a sense of direction. The map allows you to plot a path for gaining the most buffs and power-ups or you can bypass them and head more directly to a boss.

"returnal3"

The dual sense and haptic feedback are integrated seamlessly into Returnal. Every feature of the dual sense has been considered in the design and gameplay elements. The first thing that hit was the haptic feedback, the gentle vibrations that mimic rain and the use of sound to further engross you into the world of Atropos. Dualsense gives feedback such as the ground you are treading on, rainfall and tremors from enemies. It's all these little things that add to the whole sense of game immersion.

The L2 trigger serves as two buttons where pressing until halfway gives a zoomed fire whereas pushing past the tension point gives the L2 button an alternate fire. Again the haptic feedback provides a system whereby you feel more immersed in the game and these small but clever uses of the controller are enjoyable and make sense. The dual sense gives a real tactile feel to the game and what is going.

3D audio is the other buzzword and the game promotes amazing sound effects and soundtrack. I own just regular headphones but the world seems more alive when I play with headphones, I could hear every element of the world from the weather, enemies and my footsteps. The audio and soundtrack are superb.

"returnal5"

The main game mode is the rogue-like one player shooter whereby you have to kill every enemy to reach a boss to progress to the next biome. There are two other modes available, online mode and challenges.

The online mode is more along the lines that you can avenge or take the gear of other fallen Selenes in your world, this is illustrated by a corpse of Selene that you will find with the Gamertag of the fallen Selene.

Challenges are like an arcade run where you have to achieve certain goals and you will be placed on a leaderboard to gain ultimate grabbing rights.

While I have only spent a few hours playing on the day 1 patch, the day 1 patch improves navigation and identifies exits to each room in the game. This improves the visual aids to the user which is noticeable in the first level. There are some texture improvements on both Selene and enemies you encounter too, the colours on the enemies are more vivid. The majority of the day 1 patches are extra visual polish on the game. The game does seem to run smoother however this is only a slight tweak and the difference isn't massive compared to the 20 hours plus I played on the pre-day 1 patch version. Day 1 patch mainly is adding extra polish to a stunning game.

"returnal4"

The game is quite challenging and can be unforgiving at times if I'm being honest, the learning curve is steep and I would classify the game as hard. It does become easier as you progress through every run and learn more about the powerups and shortcuts that are available. If you are used to bullet shooter or roguelike games, then you may find the difficulty level to your taste, the difficulty doesn't detract from the experience but enhances the overall gameplay and longevity of the game.

I have to say from the first run through the game to my last run-through, I found myself in awe of different elements of the game. I was struck by the intro, the crash landing and just seeing this world, the cinematics is superb and it felt movie-like. The use of the dual sense and haptic feedback just made the whole experience more immersive, sound effects, and noises, while these may seem small, the whole Returnal experience was enhanced. The use of the story narrative where you piece a little bit more with each run adds a whole lot of mystery and intrigue. Finding voice messages from different versions of Selene dotted throughout the world makes the narrative even more powerful and a bit of mind bend. The gameplay has a mix of action, shooter and platformer with some puzzles thrown in for good measure. Big huge scary monsters are rendered and look amazing. The boss fights are big and epic. The game has lots of variety and requires several run-throughs before you gain a thorough understanding of all the gameplay mechanics and what is possible. It's a game that has all the elements above but is great fun too, the pace is spot on, there is variety in how you play. The game is challenging, you will come back for more. Each game mechanic, each game design and each decision by developers all enhance the game and make it even more impactful. It's a superb hell of a ride.

Whilst in the middle of lockdown, zoom calls become a common way of catching up with friends and family. Tonight is Haley’s turn to organise the weekly zoom meeting with her five friends. Tonight’s activity, apart from drinking and gossiping, is a séance. Although many are skeptical of the medium Haley hires, the evening begins to take a sudden turn for the worst when during the séance a demonic presence is invited into each of their homes. One by one, events start to unfold that will send a shiver down through anyone's spine. All of this takes place during the zoom call, as an uninvited guest makes their presence known.

"host_1"

Have you ever heard of someone making a really good horror film in just 12 weeks? It’s madness! Just three months to create a script, remotely train your actors through a virtual workshop so that they know how to not only film themselves acting out their lines, but do their own stunts, camera work, lighting and effects. Now that is pressure and the actors well and truly deserve that paycheck at the end of the day. The filming style reminds me somewhat of a modern take on the Blair Witch, but instead we have webcams and a group of friends remotely communicating from each of their homes. Now filming during this current global pandemic would usually be impossible, but that did not stop the crew, actors and director of ‘Host’ from pushing through and making this film. Honestly, it was entertaining. Terrifying in parts, and I actually had to watch something more ‘calming’ before going to sleep that night. It sent chills down my spin in several moments, from the medium disappearing, to going up into the attic. This is a great film to watch for those that love a good fright.

There is a good mix of personalities and lifestyles between this group of friends. From those that prefer to live life with an open mind, including the existence of the paranormal. To those that are more skeptical and have no problem in voicing their opinions loud & clear. Then we have those that decide that in order to add some drama to the night, they invent a story that is the lead cause to a demonic spirit crossing over and causing numerous murderous acts. You know, just your normal Friday night zoom call with the girls. Through this film we see friendships being tested and some coming to a sudden end as the evil entity goes on a rampage. Apart from the supernatural aspect, the character personalities, relationships and living situations are incredibly realistic and true to life. It makes it all the more frightening when the chaos begins.

"host_2"

From being to end, ‘Host’ has been a captivating watch. From a relatable script to the sudden change to a horror film. It ticks boxes across the entire film. It is also a fresh take on what is still a new aspect of filming, through using a webcam and allowing the actors to perform all their own camera work and stunts. As though it was an ‘amaeuter film’ but made to the highest degree. The film industry is ever changing and its fantastic to see what some can do even during a global lockdown.

A Tale of Two Sisters is still considered the highest grossing Korean horror film of all time, and rightly so. This film keeps the audience guessing until the very end, when all is revealed and you are left reeling in shock during the closing credits - I certainly was at least. Although at times the plot did appear confusing, I encourage you to watch to the very end for that jaw-dropping reveal.

Starring: Rebecca Hall, Sarah Goldberg, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Evan Jonigkeit, Stacy Martin

Director: David Bruckner

Release date: 20th August 2021

A young woman named Beth (Rebecca Hall) recently lost her husband, Owen. A week earlier, he rowed out on the lake behind their house and shot himself. Beth is devastated and can’t believe that her husband of 14 years would do such a thing. It’s not long before strange things start happening.. bloody footprints, loud knocking on her front door, loud music blasting from the stereo. Beth begins to wonder if she’s losing her mind and her best friend thinks it’s just the grief taking its toll. Owen was a very talented architect who built the house by the lake for Beth, but just as she is tidying and going through Owen’s belongings she begins to discover books and things that she’s never seen before. Was Owen who she thought he was or was he hiding some secrets of his own? This and some very bizarre dreams start a chain reaction which will change everything.

"nighthouse1"

A tale of loss, grief and secrets, ‘The Night House’ is psychological rollercoaster of a film which starts off slowly enough but it’s not too long before strange supernatural things start to happen and the pace changes. Beth begins to think that she’s losing her mind and is wrong to distrust her husband who she thought she knew so well. It’s not until much later in the film that we discover Owen’s true motives.

A little bit confusing in places, I’m sure that given another watch the story could become a lot clearer. It’s not really one of those movies that you can give a clear explanation of the plot, but it’s definitely one of secrets being revealed and questions answered.

"nighthouse2"

A really enjoyable film with a lot of brilliant special effects and plot twists, ‘The Night House’ will keep you guessing right up until the end.

Developer: Housemarque

Platform: PS5

Genre: Action, Roguelike, Horror

Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment

It's a prequel to Camp Sunshine which was a cult hit. The game is a mix of dungeon crawler and story-driven RPG. This review is for the PC Steam version which, is available to purchase now; the console versions will be released in 2022.

"sunshinemanor1"

Sunshine Manor is a real throwback to the classic 8-bit dungeon RPG. At first, the bright and wonderfully detailed game looks fantastic and does the 8-bit genre justice. The game does have a spooky and eerie underlying theme that is ubiquitous. It's a heavily story-driven narrative that gives context to the Sunshine Manor and why you are there. You have that classic gameplay as you shift through numerous levels of the mansion. The top-down view with fantastically rendered levels gives me a sense of nostalgia but is used by many indie games still. The dungeons are detailed, and each dungeon has its theme. You play as Ada, and you have to go through a series of dungeons with clues to find out what happened in this mansion. Every dungeon, every character and every clue helps to uncover the mystery of the manor.

"sunshinemanor2"

The game has a timeless retro quality that is easy to pick up and play but has enough to keep you entertained for the duration of the game. The storyline is intriguing and adds wonderfully scary and horror themes during the game. Level design is superb and the transition between ordinary and horror levels changes the tone of the game. I loved the unexpected jump scares throughout. The dialogue is superb, and the mix of game mechanics from general dungeon crawling to boss battles adds many variations in gameplay. Su-mi is a teenage girl that has just returned home with her father, to their countryside residence after a spat of time in a mental institution. With her younger sister Su-yeon forever by her side, they have a cold reunion with their step mother Eun-joo. This family dynamic is not pleasant in the slightest, as it’s not long before there are clashes between Su-mi and her step mother, over the recent bruises that have appeared on her younger sister’ arms. With high tensions and emotions running through this home, its not unusual that a number of ghost appearances have begun. As Su-mi fights to protect her sister, she also uncovers the hidden items that belonged to their late mother. Whilst Eun-joo becomes mentally unhinged herself, while the man of the house is keeping his distance. Just what is the dark secret that binds them all together?

"twosisters1"

Now this was a truly tragic and haunting story, one that really hit hard when all was revealed near the end of the movie. Throughout the entire film, we see what is happening through Su-mi’s view. Where she returns home from hospital, to a house that doesn’t feel like home anymore due to the fact her step mother awaits them there. With her younger sister by her side, she goes about her days with resentment towards Eun-joo. One that grows even more dark and twisted, when Su-mi discovers just how long her step mother has been around her family. Ultimately this is a film about Korean folklore with a modern twist, specifically the story of ‘Janghwa Hongryeon jeon’. A story that has been adapted into film many times over the decades, but its ‘A Tale of Two Sisters’ that gives it a modern adaption that also highlights severe mental trauma.
