PALESTINE 36

Palestine’s Official Academy Award® Submission Opens in Irish Cinemas October 31st

A powerful new historical epic, PALESTINE 36, written and directed by acclaimed Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, will open exclusively in cinemas across Ireland and the UK on October 31st.

The film, which has been selected as Palestine’s official submission for the 2026 Academy Awards® in the Best International Feature category, will receive its Irish premiere at the Cork International Film Festival next week.  The screening in the Arc Cinema Cork on October 29th will be followed by a special Q&A with Academy Award®–winning actor Jeremy Irons, who stars in the film.

Set in the turbulent landscape of 1930s Palestine, PALESTINE 36 is a sweeping, visually striking historical epic that shows Palestinian villagers revolt against their British oppressors.

The film boasts a stellar international cast, including Hiam Abbass, Saleh Bakri, Dafer L’Abidine, Yasmine Al Massri, Billy Howle, Liam Cunningham, Robert Aramayo, and Jeremy Irons.

Director Annemarie Jacir, known for her celebrated films When I Saw You and Wajib, brings her poetic and politically charged storytelling to a pivotal chapter of Palestinian history, combining powerful performances with lush cinematography and a deeply human narrative.

It world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month ahead of its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival last Friday (October 17th).

PALESTINE 36 is being released in Irish and UK cinemas by Curzon.
