Hi, LySandra Vuong; it’s so wonderful to have you here with us again.
What can you tell us about Sunny, Ezra, and Covenant: The Final Chapter?
Thanks so much for having me back! Covenant Volume 6 is the culmination of a story I’ve been telling for years. Sunny and Ezra have always been at the heart of Covenant, and this final volume pushes them to confront not only the external forces threatening their world, but also their deepest fears, secrets, and feelings for one another. It’s by far the most emotional, personal, and ambitious part of the series I’ve ever written.
What has the feedback been like for the series so far?
I could have never imagined something I started as a passion project ever receiving this much love and excitement. I’m so moved by the number of readers who have connected with the characters and the story. Hearing from readers who saw themselves reflected in the themes and arcs of Covenant has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.
Do you have a favourite scene from the series?
That’s such a hard question! There are a lot of scenes that are important to me personally but I think my favorites have always been the quieter moments between characters. Sure there are a lot of battles and flashy powers but at Covenant’s core, it’s a story about people learning to trust, love, and choose one another. Those quieter story beats of vulnerability have always stayed with me the most.
As you are crowdfunding Covenant: The Final Chapter, does that make Covenant: The Final Chapter special for you?
Yes! Covenant began as a project I created to teach myself how to make comics, and I never could have imagined that one day I would be bringing its conclusion directly to readers through crowdfunding. I’m so happy to finish the story on my own terms and share that experience with the readers that have supported me for so many years. It feels like a celebration of the journey we’ve all taken together.
What can readers expect from Covenant: The Final Chapter?
Answers! This volume finally reveals some of the biggest mysteries that have been hanging over the series for years, including the truth about Sunny’s father and the forces that have shaped the story from the very beginning. Readers can also expect some of the biggest battles, emotional confrontations, and character moments I’ve ever written.
With Covenant now completed, how do you feel?
It’s honestly very surreal. I feel incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to tell this story, to have grown alongside it as both an artist and a person, and to have shared that journey with so many readers. I think there will always be a part of me living in the world of Covenant. At the same time, I’m extremely excited to tell other stories and hope my readers are looking forward to those as well!
