Summary:
This story takes place in the future, in the year 2036, as the United States is split into four territories: western territory, eastern, barren, northern and the underlands, which are located where Mexico previously used to be. A train speeds ahead on tracks as inside it await piles of bodies while two gargoyle-esque monsters continue to monitor the bodies. A black spirit that has the appearance of a woman decides to call the shots and send orders to other spirits that are transporting bodies.
One of the monsters is torn to shreds by Virago, a lion monster with horns and a white mane. He is an Ozark Howler, a type of monster. The lady spirit recalls the past two years of dominating humans, which makes the story switch over to a young man running through the woods, wrapped within an American flag.
One of the things I like right away about this first issue is that the artwork looks great and that it’s easy to follow along with the story, which is a compliment to the writers of this story. The colors are dim and dark, which reflects the story that is being told. This series is a solid addition for comic readers who are interested in indie stories, specifically stories that feature creatures of the night.
