The team will be meeting with attendees and fellow exhibitors, as well as hosting a special live presentation that will reveal more juicy details around today’s teaser trailer.
WePlay Expo plus a Special Presentation
This year, members of the development team will host a special live presentation during WePlay Expo, where a full length trailer, and extended gameplay footage of the upcoming Darkest Dungeon II DLC, The Butcher’s Asylum, will be revealed in person and worldwide. Outside of the presentation, the travelling team members are excited to meet with attendees and fellow exhibitors on the show floor.
“The Red Hook team is so thankful to be heading to WePlay once again to showcase The Butcher’s Asylum, the next DLC for Darkest Dungeon II.” Said Michaela Pontellini, Communications Director at Red Hook Studios. “When we released Darkest Dungeon to the world 10 years ago we never could have foreseen the global fanbase we’d gain, and it’s an honour to share an exclusive first look at our next DLC with our fans in Shanghai.”
WePlay Expo is one of the must-see gaming celebrations in China, and the largest indie games expo. Held annually, the two-day event sees several thousand attendees and hundreds of exhibitors grace its halls, connecting players to games and game developers to one another. This year marks the second appearance of the Red Hook team at WePlay Expo, and also happens to coincide with the 10th anniversary of both WePlay and the launch of original Darkest Dungeon.
For those in the Dark about Darkest Dungeon lately:
Over the past few months, the Darkest Dungeon series has risen back into the public light: first, the surprise reveal of The Fire’s Edge, the fifth DLC installment for Darkest Dungeon and first in nearly six years, followed by the unexpected announcement of the canonical graphic novel collaboration with Vault Comics currently in development. The Fire’s Edge arrived for all platforms on August 18, inviting players old and new to experience the enticing gameplay improvements and additions to the original Darkest Dungeon. The graphic novel series launched via a BackerKit campaign on October 6 and reached its funding goal in only six minutes. The campaign includes several rewards which Backers can vote on and receive, as additional goals are met.
Red Hook Studios continues to support the Darkest Dungeon games and legacy, with the help of their much-appreciated community. Darkest Dungeon II launched in 2023, and has seen a regular cadence of major content and feature updates. The first DLC, The Binding Blade, was released on December 11, 2023, and the full game launched digitally to consoles on July 15, 2024, to favourable reviews. In January 2025, the game received both its second paid DLC, Inhuman Bondage, as well as an all new game mode, Kingdoms, which was delivered in a massive free update. Currently, the sequel is available on PC/Mac/LINUX (Steam, Epic Game Store, GOG), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch, and most recently, Nintendo Switch 2. Bundles containing Darkest Dungeon II and DLC are also available.

About Red Hook Studios
Red Hook Studios is a Vancouver-based game developer founded in 2013 by industry veterans Chris Bourassa and Tyler Sigman. In 2016, Red Hook shook the world with the release of the award-winning Darkest Dungeon, an unforgiving roguelike RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring. A sequel to Darkest Dungeon, Darkest Dungeon II, was released in 2023 doubling down on the core gameplay philosophies that cemented the original as one of the best indie games of the 2010s. Darkest Dungeon will expand into the graphic novel medium in close partnership with Vault Comics. The canonical series expands the lore of the franchise, telling new stories and secrets, anticipated to arrive in 2027. Red Hook continues to build games defined by striking art direction, rich narratives, and a high-stakes design philosophy.
