October 21, 2025 — The bullets are back, the Nazis are doomed, and your dog still needs saving. Darkenstein 3D, the fast-paced retro shooter inspired by Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM, is officially launching TODAY – completely free to own on Steam.
Created by a solo developer as a full-blown love letter to the golden age of shooters, Darkenstein 3D revives everything fans miss about ‘90s FPS action: fast movement, tight gunplay, secrets in every corner, and explosions that feel right.
No microtransactions. No hand-holding. No mercy.
You play as the Hobo Guy, a furious drifter trapped behind enemy lines in 1940s Germany. Your mission: blast your way through 13 handcrafted levels, tear through waves of Axis soldiers, uncover alien conspiracies, and rescue your kidnapped dog, Gunther.
Armed with shotguns, explosives, and pure spite, you’ll fight your way through castles, bunkers, and secret labs – all drenched in blood, debris, and the echoes of chaotic gunfire.
And because no good revenge story is complete without backup, you won’t be fighting alone. Your vicious rat companion is here to help – or at least, to bite ankles and cause total mayhem.
What to Expect:
- 13 handcrafted levels full of secrets, traps, and treasure
- Physics-driven carnage — gib, explode, and ragdoll your way to victory
- Rat companion that attacks enemies and adds chaos to every firefight
- Original soundtrack pumping pure ‘90s adrenaline
- Zero microtransactions, no battle passes, no filler — just the game
Free to Own — Forever
When Darkenstein 3D launches on October 21, players will be able to claim the full game for free and keep it forever. No catch, no timer, no tricks — just old-school shooter goodness made by one guy who really missed the glory days of gaming.
