Summary:

We start this issue with a new band called the Red Brotherhood. This band of buccaneers has Valeria as their leader, a fearless buccaneer, and Conan happens to awaken on the ship called The Briney Whin. The thieves launch into action as they attack another lonely ship at sail, with warriors on the aforementioned ship.

Morley, the swordsman, fights alongside Valeria and Conan as they tear down the Zingalian army on this ship. The narration is tight, easy to follow along, and it coasts along with the fighting on each panel, as Conan throws the captain of the ship overboard. Conquered, the Red Brotherhood enjoys the spoils of the previous ship.

After a quick duel between Morley and Valeria, a storm hits the deck, and all men go under except Conan. Conan senses danger as he stays behind and watches a shipmate’s neck get torn to shreds by a mysterious entity that crawls on deck.

The action in this issue swells, escalates, then quells itself. The issue comes to a climax as the ship ends up on an unknown island, in front of a grim statue of rotting bodies.

I like the entry of the poem towards the end, as it fits the sea fight that the men endured. It’s fitting with the issue, but the issue doesn’t let up as another reveal happens on the last page. Dialogue remains tight each issue, and the artwork is clear and not cluttering panels. A must-buy for Conan readers.

Overall: 10/10
