Summary:
This graphic novel starts out with the different members of the band being interviewed, and we learn about the band as they’re dressed in traditional black metal dress and corpse paint. The main singer, Sloth, laments how the band is disconnected, as the previous drummer left. Sloth decides to take a break from touring and tries to spend time with his wife Lucyfer and his kids.
The book stays colored in black and white, and starts out with getting to know the different personalities, such as Jim, the second guitar player. The characters sport traditional corpse paint, battle jackets and spiked wrists.
Later on in the issue, after the father and mother have come back from vacation, the story switches over to the point of view of the children, such as teenage Lilith. Lilith has a crush on a boy, which follows her arc of trying to get the boy’s attention at school. Leviathan, the younger sibling, is rowdy and hard to control.
The book ends with Lilith’s new boyfriend joining the band as the new drummer.
I think readers who are into heavy metal, specifically traditional black metal, will get a kick out of Bezelbubs. This book features comedy wrapped within music.
