The Ember Guardian, an upcoming roguelike base defence game, reveals April release date in its latest trailer.
Liverpool, March 17th, 2026. In the wake of a successful Steam Next Fest, Developer Ratbit Games and publisher Slug Disco have announced an official release date for The Ember Guardian, a roguelike strategy game set in a post-apocalyptic world.
The game will be released on April 17th, 2026, as part of Slug Disco’s Earth Appreciation Festival on Steam.
The Ember Guardian offers a novel, action-focused twist on the Kingdom formula. Players will need to scavenge through the wasteland, recruit a small army of emberlings, and build their camp to protect the Primordial Flame, the last hope of humanity. With an extensive variety of weapons, buildings, and upgrades for the former, players are encouraged to tinker with their loadout, and find their own playstyle against the things that lurk in the dark.
On top of the campaign, the game also includes a procedurally generated Horde Mode, which leans even harder into its roguelike aspects. Players will have their skills tested as resources become more scarce and waves of enemies become more threatening night after night. Each level completion (both in the campaign and Horde Mode) will grant XP, which will unlock more weapons, merchants, and upgrades for future runs of Horde Mode, making it highly replayable.
Steam Next Fest saw thousands of new and returning players trying out its revamped demo, which now included the beginning of the full game: a brand new tutorial to guide the players into the action, the first three levels of the campaign, as well as a limited version of the new Horde Mode. Progression in the demo, both in the campaign and Horde Mode, will carry over to the full game on launch too.
To celebrate this milestone, a brand new trailer was created, to give a more complete overview of the content that will be coming with the full game.
