A young yeti called Migo (Channing Tatum) lives high in the mountains with his dad and the rest of the yetis. His dad is the village gong ringer, and this involves him being shot in a catapult, head first towards the gong itself. The gong is struck at the same time each day, to make the sun come up. His dad tells him that one day, he will take over the job as ringer of the gong, and so as to be ready when the time comes, they decide to do a trial run. Unfortunately Migo is not the most agile of creatures, ends up shooting past the gong and disappears off the side of the mountain. Down below the clouds, he finds a new world that he never knew existed…
A great animation movie that will keep kids of any age entertained, ‘Smallfoot’ is a fine example of what the non-Pixar animations companies, such as Warner Animation Group are capable of. A story of family, friendship and acceptance, ‘Smallfoot’ takes an age old story, (that of the fabled yetis) and flips it upside down. How must the yetis feel, and what stories are they telling their children about what lives at the foot of the mountain?
With a quite high profile list of cast members, including the wonderful Danny DeVito, Patricia Heaton and the rapper/actor, Common, this movie has something for everyone.
A great movie for a family trip out to the cinema, ‘Smallfoot’ will entertain and enthral most young minds. There’s also a good bit of singing in it, and you can be sure that kids will be humming the tunes long after they’ve left the cinema.
Overall: 7/10
