Sesh ANC Active are true wireless earbuds from Skullcandy that offer several upgraded technologies to better your listening experience. The kind people at Skullcandy sent us the Sesh ANC Active earbuds for review. Sesh ANC Active is designed to have an improved battery life, clear voice smart mic and active noise cancellation. Additionally, they are made to be light, compact and best for the go, which sells at the price of €79.99.
The packaging for these earbuds is similar to their previous packaging as it is kept to a minimum to bring attention to the buds themselves. The box is sleek and compact, with the Skullcandy logo implemented onto the display. What is really nice about the Skullcandy packaging is that it is eco-friendly, targeting environmentally conscious buyers. At the front of the box, you will notice a photograph of the buds with further information on them at the back. The box includes the following items: Sesh ANC Active True Wireless Earbuds, ear gels that come in three different sizes (small, medium, and large), a 1-inch USB-C charging cable, a charging case, a user guide, and warranty information.
As for the design of the Sesh ANC Active True Wireless Earbuds, everything has a nice matte, sleek finish to it. The complimentary colour palette of black and orange makes the earbuds stand out nicely in their simplicity. The minimalist design makes the earbuds look more modern, and having the Skullcandy logo on the earbuds is a nice branding touch without being too flashy. I quite liked the ‘little hook/holder’ on the charging case, which makes it efficient to carry around with a carabiner. Compared to other Skullcandy charging cases, this one felt the heaviest and was slightly bigger in size, but does not cause much discomfort when carrying them around. This makes the case feel much more sturdy and has the earbuds fit snugly into the magnetic pins. The earbuds are made from high-quality plastic, which makes them durable and lightweight throughout the day. The earbuds are IP67 sweat, water and dust-resistant, which makes them perfect for outdoor activities and workouts.
This set weighs around 56g. Some of the other specifications for these earbuds are the following: The connection type is Bluetooth 5.3, the impedance is 16Ω, the driver diameter is 12 mm, the THD is 2%, the sound pressure level is 99dB ± 3dB, and the frequency response is 20Hz – 20KHz. Rapid charge, fast pair, multipoint pairing, custom 5-Band EQ mode, preset EQ modes, low latency audio, media controls, personal sound by Mimi, Spotify Tap and use either bud solo. The distance for Bluetooth before disconnection is roughly around 30 feet.
When it comes to in-ear earbuds, it is essential that the fit is to par, and these Sesh ANC Active buds do a good job with them. The silicone ear tips that are provided are a great selection for users to pick the most comfortable and secure fit. The only thing I did not like so much was that the buds themselves would protrude from the ears, which would not always look so pleasant; at least, this may be the case for some people.
One of the best features of the Sesh ANC Active earbuds is its battery life. Battery life depletes faster with the ANC (Active-Noise Cancellation) on, so this can vary the hours. These earbuds feature ANC (active noise cancellation), which depletes the earbuds battery quicker than without usage. In our test for the battery life, each bud lasted up to 7.5 hours with ANC on and 10 hours without ANC on. The charging case provides an additional 20-22 hours total, where the total listening time can be up to around 36 hours. Skullcandy, have said that the Sesh ANC provide 28 hours ANC on (7 hours in buds and 21 hours in the case) and 48 hours ANC off (12 hours in bud and 36 in the case). Charging the case to completion took roughly 30 mins to an hour, which is effective and promising with the battery life entailed. The battery life is more than sufficient for daily use as they are perfect for working out, commuting, and much more. Even giving the case roughly 10 minutes off charge can give you up to 2 hours of playback time. Bluetooth’s connection is very accessible when using a laptop, an Android phone and even an Apple iPad.
The Skullcandy Sesh ANC Active are an upgraded version of the Skullcandy Sesh Evo True Wireless. They feature ANC that can connect through the Skullcandy companion app. The app can be used to adjust the ANC settings, use the equaliser, and mess around with presets to fine-tune the listening experience to your liking. The companion app comes with several features that you can use, which include creating your own Mimi profile sound, creating custom button settings, activating low latency mode, turning your buds into a camera remote, turning on/off multipoint pairing, and accessing user guides and troubleshooting help.
The sound quality for the Sesh ANC Active true wireless earbuds is excellent. As most Skullcandy buds tend to be on the more affordable side, these ones are slightly more expensive, but they offer a great listening experience with the addition of active noise cancellation. The active noise cancellation in the earbuds blocks out relatively loud and high-pitched noises to snug the sound in your ears. For testing the sound quality, we listened to a range of music genres.
The Sesh ANC Active buds have an emphasised bass to them, which is ideal for R&B and hip-hop genres of music but may not be ideal for low-frequency ranged music. However, in our test, the balance in audio was relatively good as you could hear the sounds travel clearly without any disruption in the back.
Like other Skullcandy earbuds, these earbuds can also be used for gaming or daily watching. For high-end games such as FPS,’ these earbuds are quite decent with the ANC. The ANC allows for some spatial audio that helps players when locating enemies. Mostly, all sound effects in the game come across clearly, which is also a plus. When it comes to watching movies/shows, the sound is extremely clear, and there seems to be no distortion in the noise at all. Personally, the sound quality for these earbuds is surprisingly good, and the various features that accompany the earbuds allow users to align the earbud sound quality to their liking.
With the ANC on the sound, Both with the ANC and without ANC, there was not much of a sound quality difference other than isolation. The isolation in these earbuds is good to an extent. Subtle noises in the background get silenced, but louder noises tend to muffle in the background, which gets a bit annoying after constant occurrence. Personally, the ANC was not a feature I had the entire time as there was not a great difference in the isolation, which could be done through a snug fit and higher volume.
Skullcandy has another true wireless earbud called Rail ANC, which sells for €119.99. We wanted to briefly compare the Sesh ANC Active true wireless earbuds that sell for €79.99 to those earbuds.
Oddly enough, I found that the mic quality in the Sesh ANC Active was better than that of the Rail ANC. Usually, Skullcandy earbuds tend to pick up on a lot of background noise when using the mic, but for the Sesh ANC Active buds, the background was a tad bit more silenced. Also, the user’s voice was much more eligible, with zero to no distortions when there were no loud disturbances in their background.
When comparing the sound quality between the Rail ANC and the Sesh ANC Active earbuds, they are slightly similar to one another. Both of these earbuds have the ANC feature in them, which works basically in the same way without impacting the sound quality much. Both of them are compatible with the Skullcandy app and offer the same features for both price points.
Both the Rail ANC and Sesh ANC Active have touch controls that are simple yet a bit sensitive. I would say due to the Sesh ANC Active’s earbuds being larger size made the touch controls a lot more, easier to work with. We found that in comparison, both the Rail ANC and Sesh ANC Active are very similar to one another, even though there is about a 40 euro difference, which would make the Sesh ANC Active a better buy.
I would say that the way the earbuds are designed and built is really well done. The only thing I would like is for there to be a longer charging cable.
Sesh ANC Active True Wireless Earbuds offer a great value for their selling price of €79.99. They have a sleek design, decent sound quality, active noise cancellation, and a robust battery life, all packed into a durable, water-resistant build. Though the buds may not be ideal for audiophiles, they are an excellent choice for casual listeners looking to buy an affordable pair of noise-cancelling earbuds. The combination of superb sound, comfortable fit, and convenient features make them a top contender in the market. Make sure you go out and buy yourself Skullcandy Sesh ANC Active True Wireless Earbuds!
