Overcooked! 2 is here it’s the sequel to the chaotic cooking game that was released in 2016.
Overcooked! 2 can be played as a multiplayer or singleplayer experience. You can have a total of up to four people playing locally, or online. You play as chefs that return back to the Onion Kingdom where the Onion King chants a spell for culinary greatness not knowing he’s unleashed the Unbread. The Unbread are hungry and you have to prepare dishes for them so they can go back to being dead bread. You must feed as many customers as you can with your dishes while working in some very crazy kitchens. You must travel high and low making your way across the Onion Kingdom.
The controls to Overcooked! 2 are very straightforward. You have buttons that include pickup/drop, chop/throw, emote, dash and also moving around. You are not presented with a tutorial but through each loading screen, a controls scheme is presented. Also if you play single player you have the ability to switch between chefs that also has its own button.
The art style of overcooked is very cartoony but it has a unique style to it. Each level has its own setting and details to give each its own flavour. The dishes include sushi, salad, pizza, cake, pancake and much more they all look so yummy. The level select map is so much fun and adds so much character to the game. The chefs are also very well designed. Each chef has its own charm and style. The graphics of this game are also very clean and stylised which adds to the cartoony feel of the world.
The soundtrack choice of Overcooked! 2 is very nice and soothing. When playing a certain level like the sushi level you have music in the background that has a sort of an Asian vibe to it. You also have music that’s very enticing when your time starts to run out adding to the overall chaos of the gameplay. The music for the map area is so soothing and has a very calm vibe to it. I also appreciate the different sound effects for certain things when playing a level, like when you serve the right dish you get a ding noise or when you serve a wrong dish you get a buzzing sort of noise, as well as when things are about to burn there is an alerting noise. This really helps the player out when there is so much going on in the level.
In Overcooked! 2 the levels are focused on you preparing a bunch of dishes and serving them. You must prepare the dishes in a certain amount of time before the customer leaves. For each level, you have a certain amount of time to get as many coins as you can at the end of each level these coins are converted to star rating out of three. Some stages include you cutting, boiling, steaming, cleaning plates, cooking and even frying in order to make a specific dish. Speed is of the essence the quicker the dishes are served the more tip you get and the greater your score is. You have to prepare each dish in very chaotic scenarios. As the game progresses the kitchen becomes more challenging including working in a hot air balloon, working with portals and working over water. Sometimes if you are not careful you can set the kitchen on fire if a dish starts to burn, then you have to use the fire hydrant to put it out.
Each world in Overcooked! 2 has six levels to them. Some worlds also have a bonus level that can be unlocked if you have enough stars. The progression in the game is handled by unlocking the world using stars. Each level is rated by three stars depending on how many coins you collected in each level. The stars are then added you and used for progression.
Overcooked! 2 is a game that everyone can play and enjoy. It can be challenging and chaotic at times but overall is a really fun game to play with your friends or family. The game includes many modes like arcade, story or versus which you can play while challenging people online or your friends and family locally. Overcooked! 2 is a fun game to play if you wanna play something that’s different to any other game out there, then this is the game for you.
Overall: 9/10
