One Piece Going Merry Light-Up Alarm Clock Review

For anime fans, as well as fans who wanna collect cool figures, Tecknofun’s One Piece Going Merry Light‑Up Alarm Clock is a definite bargain! Being able to combine the features of a practical alarm clock with the iconic ship from the anime One Piece is outstanding. The model is around 25cm long and is designed as a piece that catches your eye instantly as you walk into a room. The alarm clock features different lighting effects, has a digital display of time, date, and temperature, and it aims to satisfy both the aesthetic and functional needs. I am so thankful to Tecknofun for sending this out for us to check out!

The ship comes in a retail box that is nicely designed with a world map around it to make it seem as if it is sailing. The back of the box includes the different features of the alarm clock in several languages. Inside the box, you can find the Going Merry Light‑Up Alarm Clock, a USB-C Cable and an instruction manual. The alarm clock can be used with batteries, but they are not included.

The clock itself is modelled after the Straw Hat Pirates’ first ship, the Going Merry. This alarm clock captures every charming detail from the iconic sheep figurehead to the miniature masts, canons and Jolly Roger flags. The clock sits on a base designed to look like ocean waves, giving it a fun, worthy presence. The digital screen at the front shows the time, data and temperature, with the button above to allow you to set alarms and control volume and light effects.

The LED lights have a few different modes for you to choose from. One mode lights up the bright blue waves under the ship with lights on the deck of the ship and the sails. Another mode only has the bright blue waves lit. The third mode has red LED lights on the side of the ship lit. Another mode just lights all of them together, which ties in the ship’s presence even better. Some of the modes are less bright while others seem to be brighter. The LED screen itself is quite bright, which serves as a light screen on its own.

Now, what comes across as a novelty item is a functional alarm clock. You are able to set the alarm as you would like to a certain time and can ensure it is on or off depending on the mode you choose. Additionally, there is an option to set a snooze for the alarm that will automatically stop buzzing after a certain amount of time. The instruction manual that the ship comes with is great for you to get an idea of how to set the different features. The sound of the alarm was merely a buzzing sound which you can control the volume off so that it does not bother you when it goes off. The alarm aspect is quite good, functional and can definitely be used in an actual day-to-day routine. I will say that for the alarm, I was a bit underwhelmed by the fact that the sound was not a jingle/tune from One Piece itself, but rather just a casual alarm buzz.

The Going Merry alarm clock can be powered in two different ways: either by 3xAAA batteries or USB-C. After the USB-C was plugged in, this alarm clock did not seem entirely efficient, as if the cable were to get disconnected, you would need to set the clock all over again. It was not the case of the cable being loose, but more about handling the ship when an alarm is going off. If you do not wish for the alarm snooze to automatically stop, you can press a button to forcefully end the alarm noise, which can lead to you just accidentally pulling out the lead. For this alarm clock, I would 100% recommend using batteries as they felt like the better option, because you can get a lot more functionality out of it.

The Tecknofun’s One Piece Going Merry Light‑Up Alarm Clock goes for a price of £87.11, and it feels much more like a collector’s item than just a regular alarm clock. It is the kind of piece you would proudly display on a shelf and even on your nightstand. This clock is clearly made with One Piece fans in mind, as it is a striking tribute to the beloved Going Merry, making it a real standout for any anime collection. While the built-in alarm clock functionality adds a fun and creative touch, what really impressed me was the level of detail in the ship’s design. When lit up, it is genuinely beautiful; the bright blue waves and the soft glow behind the sail make it look almost magical. It is both a nostalgic display piece and a charmingly practical nod to one of the most iconic ships in anime.

I would like to make some recommendations that may make the alarm better for the future, especially for the price you are paying. I do wish the alarm clock screen were slightly larger; it can be a bit hard to read from a distance if placed on a bedside table. That said, the screen’s brightness helps make up for the small size, and I understand that enlarging it might have taken away from the ship’s overall design. A few extra features would make this piece even better, such as customizable lighting colours or a more creative snooze button to match the One Piece theme.

Overall, I truly love the Tecknofun One Piece Going Merry Light-Up Alarm Clock in my room. It strikes a great balance between collectable charm and functional design. While it may not be perfect for someone who needs a heavy-duty alarm clock, it absolutely shines as a decorative centrepiece for any anime fan or One Piece enthusiast.

Functionality 8/10 + Design 10/10 = Overall 9/10
