KING FRANKIE

STARRING PETER COONAN

SET TO HIT CINEMAS ON 11TH OCTOBER

OFFICIAL TRAILER LAUNCHED

A gripping new Irish feature KING FRANKIE starring Peter Coonan (Love/Hate, Doineann) will open in Irish cinemas on Friday 11th October.  The film which weaves a tale of greed, grief, redemption and hope is the debut feature from writer/director Dermot Malone.

KING FRANKIE tells the story of a man driven by the desire for monetary success, only to find himself facing the consequences of his choices.  The film explores the journey of Frankie (Coonan), a taxi driver and owner of a small taxi firm.  On the day of his father’s funeral, Frankie is forced to confront a traumatic event from ten years previous.  As he grapples with the weight of this reckoning, his journey toward forgiveness—and ultimately redemption—begins.

Described by the filmmakers as “a Celtic Tiger tale you’ve never seen before,” the film captures a raw, emotional narrative about the promises we make to others and to ourselves—and the strength it takes to keep them.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Conor MacNeill (The Sixth Commandment), Ruairi O’Connor (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), Lynn Rafferty (Taken Down), Olivia Caffrey (Trivia), Ally Ni Chiarain (Calm with Horses), and Owen Roe (Michael Collins).  KING FRANKIE also marks the highly anticipated acting debut of acclaimed Irish rapper Rejjie Snow.

Speaking about the cinema release writer/director Dermot Malone said: “I have to pinch myself when I think that KING FRANKIE will be in cinemas next month.  It is a dream come true. I can’t wait to share Frankie’s story with wider audiences and see how the film connects with everyone.  While it is deeply personal to me, each Irish audience we have played to has found something meaningful in it and I hope that can continue across screens in October.”

Since its world premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival earlier this year, the film has screened at numerous festivals worldwide, including the Shanghai International Film Festival and the Galway Film Fleadh.

Shot on location in North County Dublin and County Meath, KING FRANKIE was produced by Matt D’Arcy for Banjoman and was in receipt of completion funding from Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland.  Banjoman, recognized for its high-calibre work, was named Irish Production Company of the Year at the Kinsale Shark Awards in both 2021 and 2022.

KING FRANKIE opens in Irish cinemas on Friday 11th October.
