Running a little late this week as I had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving. I’m going to be hitting the DC hard, next week I’m wrapping up some titles.
Adventures of the Super Sons #2, #3 and #4
Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
Pencils: Carlo Barberi
Inks: Art Thibert, Matt Santorelli
Colors: Protobunker
Letters: Rob Leigh
Cover: Dan Mora
Publisher: DC Comics
This series is a prime example of prime Silver Age crazy fun. It’s really fast paced but the characters feel fleshed out and banter between Damian and Jon is still gold. 10/10 this week’s cliffhanger looks like fun.
The Unexpected #4, #5, and #6
Writer: Steve Orlando
Artist: Cary Nord, Ronan Cliquet
Inks: Scott Hanna, Yvel Guichet
Colors: Jeromy Cox
Letters: Carlos M. Mangu
Cover: Yanick Paquette
Publisher: DC Comics
This series is even more fast paced than Super Sons with globe trotting adventures. The problem is the characters don’t feel fleshed out, and they barely interact. In fact at one point when Firebrand is in danger Neon says “ I won’t lose any more friends!” and I thought ‘ you two bicker and have had like 3 conversations you’re acquaintances/allies at best’. That said the first arc has been wrapped up and the second looks interesting. I’m giving the series 9/10 and I’ve heard it’s being canceled so I hope they use their borrowed time for character building.
New Challengers #4
Writer: Scott Snyder & Aaron Gillespie
Artist: V Ken Marion
Colors: Dinei Ribeiro
Letters: Deron Bennett
Cover: V Ken Marion
Publisher: DC Comics
Speaking of borrowed time, this is my first experience with this iteration of the Challengers, and so far I like what I see. They even took a deep dive on one of the characters and it was nice to get to know her. 10/10 I definitely have time for this.
Harley Quinn/Gossamer Special #1
Writer: Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti
Artist: Pier Brito
Colors: Paul Mounts
Letters: Dave Sharpe
Cover: Amanda Conner
Publisher: DC Comics
Another really fun issue, not quite as over the top as the Catwoman issue, but solidly great. 10/10 bother stories are a lot of fun.
