With the release of Adventure Time #1 from Oni Press today, we are delighted to be joined by . Nick is a cartoonist and animator, he has released his Bloody Mary graphic novel from Silver Sprocket.
Hi Nick, it’s so lovely having you here with us.
Thank you for having me! This digital couch you have here is nice and soft. So cozy!
Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Nick Winn. I’m a Cartoonist/Animator from Phoenix, Arizona. I’ve worked as a designer/supervisor on Cartoon Network shows like Craig of the Creek, Jessica’s Big Little World, Apple & Onion and many more! I also did a comic called Bloody Mary last year with Silver Sprocket!
When did you first discover Adventure Time?
I discovered the show in middle school when a commercial came on of a kid running around a city screaming “What time is it!?” I was hooked ever since. I still sing the “little baby socks” song to this day.
How did you get involved with the Adventure Time comic?
I was asked by the wonderful editors at Oni Press, Megan Brown and Jung Lee to pitch an adventure time story centering around Finn and Jake. I went the route of seeing just how far their friendship could go before breaking and thus Best of Buds was born!
As a creator, do you prefer writing or creating art?
As of late, my hand can’t keep up with my ideas so I’ve been leaning more towards writing . However, creating art is still one of my greatest loves so I might have to sew on another arm to make more comics haha!
If any of our readers are unfamiliar with Adventure Time, how would you describe it?
Adventure Time is an epic quest about a boy, Finn the Human and his best friend, Jake the Dog! . Not only is it an epic quest, but a fun adventure filled with parties, dancing, farts and new words to use in your everyday life! Not to mention cute princesses and evil kings and monsters to fight! Adventure time is also a call to make your wacky zany stories a reality!
What has it been like working with Oni Press?
Fantastic. Megan and Jung have not only helped the comic process go smoothly, they have enhanced the story so much! Not to mention they brought on amazing talent for the cover and interiors with the likes of Tillie Walden, Asia Simone and Brenda Hickey!
Do you have a favourite character from Adventure Time?
Aw gee does it have to be just one!? BMO is one of my favorites. He’s so cute and innocent but will also hit you with a frying pan if he has to. Jiggler is a close second.
What is it about Adventure Time that made you want to be a part of the Adventure Time comic?
The fart jokes! Just kidding. Adventure Time holds such a special place in my heart for not only helping me get through making friends when I had to move schools, but also helping me through weird feelings that were happening to Finn as they were happening to me. I wanted to write a story that could have that same emotional impact for someone or even help them make a new friend.
What can comic fans expect from Adventure Time #1?
The start of a mathematical adventure! Issue #1 will focus on introducing readers new and old to the world of OOO with recurring and new characters to set up a whole new story for Finn and Jake to dance and jiggle through.
