With New York Comic-Con in full swing, we are delighted to be joined by General Manager and CTO of Comixology, Jeff DiBartolomeo.
Hi Jeff, it’s so great to have you here with us.
It’s great to be here – thanks for having me!
Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Sure! I am the General Manager and CTO of Comixology. I’ve been at Comixology for twelve years, since before Amazon acquired us in 2014. I led Technology and Operations up until 2023 when I took on the GM role. In short, I lead the Comixology team that is responsible for comics and manga worldwide at Amazon (excluding Japan, which is run by a sister team). In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing guitar, and singing. My wife Carmen is a middle school librarian (who uses comics to help students who are learning Englsh or struggling with reading), and we have two daughters.

Can you tell us about the origins of Salvation’s Child?
Paul Cornell and Anthony Cronin of Cosmic Lighthouse brought the project to us and we were very excited about it. When an award-winning prose writer like Adrian Tchaikovsky wants to make the leap to graphic novels, that’s super exciting. Salvation’s Child is a prologue to Tchaikovsky’s bestselling and critically-acclaimed The Final Architecture series—a space opera about humanity on the brink of extinction that includes the novels Shards of Earth, Eyes of the Void, and Lords of Uncreation. We’re humbled that Adrian and Cosmic Lighthouse would choose Comixology Originals for his debut graphic novel.

What can you tell us about Medieval?
Neil Kleid is a member of the Comixology Originals family, having previously released The Panic and Nice Jewish Boys with us. When Neil came to us with the idea for Medieval, he had a clear vision to do something very different from his previous work. The story and the character are over the top, but a really fun read. I love that Neil is clearly a Yankees fan (as am I), and artist Alex Cormack is from Massachusetts so naturally a Red Sox fan – they must have had some clashes working on the book!

How would you describe The Adequates?
The Adequates is something we green-lit the minute Lee Loughrigdge described it to us. I love the premise – a group of high school kids who acquire superpowers but need to overcome their own vulnerabilities to realize their full potential. Sounds like every teenager I ever met…and most adults, too. While the story is a fun “superhero” story, there’s an element that every one of us can relate to. We’re excited about this story!

What is the elevator pitch for Exorcism Island?
Exorcism Island is an ambitious horror story. Following a terrifying confrontation with a possessed woman, Father Gigi Amato finds himself sent to a remote Caribbean Island run by the Vatican to join a group of priests tasked with looking after the most troubled, long-term, demonic possession cases. When Jordan Thomas came to us with the pitch for Exorcism Island, he included the first six pages of Issue #1 and we were impressed with the unique way Jordan and artist Chris Matthews tackled multiple threads of the story. This is going to be a scary one!

Can you tell us what comic fans can expect from Comixology at New York Comic-Con?
Our booth (#4454) is on the main convention floor, sharing a “neighborhood” with DC, Mad Cave, and a bunch of other great publishers. We’re bringing the scavenger hunt that we launched at SDCC to NYCC – fans search to find all the QR codes at participating publishers’ booths and creators’ Artist Alley tables to receive free digital comics, Kindle discounts, and be entered to win a Kindle Colorsoft device.
In our booth, as part of the scavenger hunt, visitors can collect a capsule from our “gumball” machine with an exclusive pin, a QR code to scan as part of the scavenger hunt, and a chance to instantly win a Kindle device. While there, you can get a hands-on opportunity to experience your favorite comics and graphic novels on a Kindle Colorsoft device. We’ll also have giveaways, daily signings, and live drawing sessions in our booth. Check out our socials for the signing and live draw schedules. Follow @Comixology on: Instagram, X, Facebook.
We’re presenting two panels: Comixology x Kindle Colorsoft Present: The Art of Color where Kim-Joy and Lee Loughridge discuss the art of color. And Comixology Presents: Lights, Camera…Comix! with Thomas Jane, Marc Bernardin, Pornsak Pichetshote and Marc Guggenheim where they’ll discuss storytelling in both film/TV and comics, their passions, inspirations and latest comics projects.
Finally, we’re proud to be a returning sponsor of the 2025 Harvey Awards.

Any message for the ComicBuzz readers?
If you’re going to be at NYCC, be sure to stop by our booth and join in the scavenger hunt, attend a signing or live drawing session, and check out the Kindle Colorsoft! If you aren’t coming to NYCC, you can still enter to win a free Kindle Colorsoft on our socials!
We also hope readers enjoy all of our current and upcoming Comixology Originals titles. There’s a book for everyone!
We would like to say a big thank you to Jeff for chatting with us and wish Comixology all the success at the New York Comic-Con. We would also like to wish Comixology the best of luck with their upcoming Comixology Originals titles.
