With the Kickstarter campaign for the Flippitoons Odditome of Deadlies and Dreadlies Volume 1 art book from Clover Press now live, we are delighted to be joined by creative director and artist Jim Fletcher.
Hi Jim, it’s so lovely to have you here with us.
Thanks! Great to be here!
Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi there readers! This is Jim Fletcher, previously the executive director of DC Direct for many years, and now an esteemed Oddibodoligst!

Could you tell us about the origins of the Flippitoon universe?
I’ve always seen faces in random objects and loved drawing monsters, so I kind of mashed them together!
How long have you been working on the Flippitoons Odditome of Deadlies and Dreadlies, Volume 1?
While the Flippitoons were initially discovered in 2003, (maybe sooner without knowing it, as I look through all my doodles) the concept really came together early this year when fellow Oddibodologist, James Martin came on board to help turn your world upside down!

How did Clover Press get involved with the Flippitoons Odditome of Deadlies and Dreadlies, Volume 1?
I had known Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz since we both worked at DC. I think about two years ago, I showed him what I was working on and he flipped out! When we started talking about what this could be, it really lit a fire under me to finish this book of Flippitoons discoveries!

There is a field guide for the Flippitoons, as well animated videos. Can you tell us about the animated videos?
I started working on the quick animated videos, which we call Flippimations, first as a creative challenge to myself, and to show some of the ways the Flippitoons can morph and move into their other side, exploring their personalities further. I incorporated music that I composed specifically for this project to enhance the visual experience. Some of the full-length songs can be found on Spotify, Apple music and other fine streaming services. Secret Soundtracks volumes 1 and 2, are out now with more to come!
Go to Flippitoons.com to watch the videos, and they can also be seen on Instagram at @Fletchergraffix

How would you describe the Flippitoons Odditome of Deadlies and Dreadlies, Volume 1?
It’s a book that can be read in either direction, as all the images flip upside down, and the poems rhyme with each other as you turn the book! Some of the “scaracters” have more than one face hidden in them as well. James and I studied these Flippitoons more carefully, and what we know at this time is that they were morphed fears we outgrow, and while waiting to return, they’ve gone off in their own weird and wild directions. We are still uncovering more of them, and there is still more to learn about these fantastic Flippitoons.Â

Any message for the ComicBuzz readers?
We really hope you have a flipping great time along with us on our journey as we continue to dive. into, and expand the world of the freaky, fabulous Flippitoons!
Flippit. Flippit good.
We would like to say a big thank you to Jim for chatting with us and wish him the best of luck with the campaign for Flippitoons Odditome of Deadlies and Dreadlies, Volume 1.
