THE 69th CORK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2024 CLOSING GALA, WORLD TOUR AND A RORY GALLAGHER SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Award-winning director John Crowley in attendance; tickets on sale now
10th October, Cork City. Cork International Film Festival (CIFF) has announced that their 69th edition’s Closing Gala will be Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson’s Rumours, starring Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander, on Sunday, November 17th. Additionally, Cork native John Crowley will be in attendance with the Irish premiere of his acclaimed new film We Live in Time on Saturday, November 9th as part of its “World Tour” strand. CIFF will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Rory Gallagher: Irish Tour ’74 with a screening of the acclaimed documentary and a Q&A with Donal Gallagher, Rory’s brother and manager, on Thursday, November 14th.
Tickets for all are on sale now on corkfilmfest.org or via the myCIFF app.
Rumours is an exhilarating dark comedy following the seven leaders of the world’s richest liberal democracies meeting at their annual G7 summit, hosted by the German chancellor (Cate Blanchett). They soon become spectacles of incompetence, contending with increasingly surreal obstacles as night falls. John Crowley’s We Live in Time is a fresh, funny and deeply moving romance that is a meaningful reminder of how precious it is to live in the moment and love fully in the time that we have. The film stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh as Tobias and Almut, two lovers whose first meeting is, quite literally, a car crash. Crowley will introduce the film on Saturday, November 9th at The Everyman, and he will participate in an “In Conversation” career interview on Sunday, November 10th at the Triskel. Having world premiered at the Festival in 1974, Rory Gallagher: Irish Tour ’74 is being screened as a Special Presentation celebrating its 50th Anniversary on Thursday, November 14th, in the Everyman Theatre, courtesy of Universal Music. Tony Palmer’s documentary captures Cork’s folk hero and Ireland’s first rock star at his brilliant best, live on stage in his home country. This year’s Cork Film Trail will include a special tribute to Rory Gallagher at The Metropole Hotel as part of the Trail’s vibrant installations at five sites across the city during the Festival, sponsored by Murphy’s and with support from Cork City Council.
CIFF Director & CEO Fiona Clark remarked: “We are so excited to be able to share some of the incredible films we have lined up for audiences this year as part of our 69th edition, ahead of our full programme launch on the 15th October. Rumours is a fitting close to our 11-day Festival, a blistering black comedy about a global subject that affects us all, told by masters of cinematic imagination. It’s a pleasure to welcome Cork’s own John Crowley to present his beautiful and bittersweet romantic drama We Live in Time, and to have a rare opportunity for an in-depth conversation with him following the Irish Premiere screening.”
She continued: “Fifty years ago, our Festival world premiered Rory Gallagher: Irish Tour ’74 so we are thrilled to present this iconic documentary about Cork’s legendary musical virtuoso along with a post-screening conversation with his brother Donal Gallagher.”
Tickets for the Rumours (Closing Gala), We Live in Time, and Rory Gallagher: Irish Tour ’74 are on sale now at corkfilmfest.org or via the myCIFF app.
