Sanguivore: Twenty Below Review

Developer: Blood Eater Games

Platforms: PC

Genre: Action, Adevnture

Publisher: Forthright Entertainment

Sanguivore: Twenty Below is a first-person multiplayer horror experience. The game was developed by Blood Eater Games and published by Forthright Entertainment. Sanguivore has similar gameplay elements to Dead by Daylight, Outlast Trials and a few other horror games. This game is only available for the PC.

Sanguivore: Twenty Below is an escape room horror game that takes place after an incident with a Sanguivore. A Sanguivore is a blood-fiending creature. The game can be played by up to four players and is highly recommended to play with a full party. When loading into the main screen, there are many options to choose from. You are able to host a game, join a private game, or find a public game. As the game very recently came out, it seems that a lot of the public lobbies are dead, meaning that not many people are playing the game, which can be a bit annoying if you wish to play the game with other people. At least in our case, we had a full party of 4 people and went straight into the game.

The game has a lot of features that are still yet to come, as the game is currently in Early Access on Steam, which will add a whole lot more value to the game. Such features include new maps, character customization, perk settings and tarot card collections. With these features, it would give players more of an interest to look into better equipables or perks to help on their escape. The game is great; when it comes to replaying, as loot locations change constantly, and there are map changes.

The controls for the game are very straightforward when playing on the PC. You pretty much use your keyboard and mouse. The controls are highlighted in the journal but are also shown on screen.Sometimes, the keys on the screen are hard to see, and there tends to be a slight delay in them. The delay in the controls may be due to the lag in the game server, where sometimes the interaction button does not react right away. This slightly takes away from the escape room experience because it gets annoying after a while. Besides that, the controls are easy to get used to and are seen on the screen as you go about your escape.

The visuals of the game are crisp and clear. Everything about the game is so all up in your face. Sanguivore definitely does a decent job at creating a horrific, chaotic environment that gets you on your tippy toes. The graphics of the game are high quality, but there does seem to be some lag which interferes with the visuals. It is all realistic with a bit of a cartoonish look. There are elements of gore and blood, and the eeriness builds up with both the visuals and music. Even the loading screen has an element of immersiveness with the eerie bell sound effects and distant ringings. The cutscene at the beginning of the game also helps players understand the story and what needs to be done in order to escape the town. Voice acting in the game is also done really well. The game does a good job of paying attention to details and is definitely played best with headphones on.

What’s very different about this game is that this game focuses on the idea of an escape room. Within the room, you have to try finding a bunch of puzzles and clues which lead you to the next and so forth. This game is focused on escaping a building and then escaping a town. I found the escape room element of this game to be so much fun, especially when put in a chaotic horror environment. The first map features two zones which have four escape opportunities, and it is up to the players to find these routes.

The game was enjoyable if there weren’t many interruptions. It seemed that the game would always disconnect one of the players randomly, which would mean that we needed to restart without having made much progress. I did enjoy the voice proximity voice chat, which I think works extremely well with this type of game and keeps the party close together. The map itself was pretty well-sized. Finding clues and trying to solve the different puzzles was different at certain points, which did make some things slightly tedious. Getting chased by the monsters also seems to be done pretty decently, where you are able to hide away in lockers or under desks to avoid being caught at all times. I would say that the game has a great concept, which has not been done by many games, but it needs polishing. There seem to be slight bugs and major lag in servers, even with a really good wifi connection that loses the experience. If you are looking for a horrific atmospheric escape, the room game in which you explore a building, collect clues, solve puzzles and try to escape without getting devoured by the Sanguivore, then this game is definitely worth checking out. It is played best with a friend or a full party of four. The game captures a great, eerie environment that keeps you on your toes.

Overall: 5/10
