I guess the title is enough to put people off but hear me out. What we get is all 36 of Shakespeare’s plays adapted by Eric Kim in this 88 pages almost pocket-size book. Eric takes each of the plays and converts them into a two panel story. Art wise we get black ink stick figures but this style is perfect for what Eric needs here, I am not sure I could think of a better style.
In adapting the plays as pictured above it is fair to say that Eric has stripped out a lot of content, but I think it’s fair to say he has tried to keep the central theme of each play. I think the dialogue Eric picks keeps its modern for the social network generation. It’s a great read very witty and some of them made me laugh out loud, some of them do contain mature language but again it just feels right.
It’s something I think anybody will enjoy and all credit to Eric for trying to do something different. I hope it might make people look at Shakespeare work in a different way and maybe even encourage people who have not read it to go in pick it up. As for Eric Kim maybe adapting a full play not just two panels, if not I think each 2 panel play would make a great a poster.
