Have I mentioned before how much I love this crate? I am now on my fourth month of my continuous SoKawaii box subscription. This August’s theme is “Summer Story”, which contained six items from Sailor Moon, Toy Story, Rilakkuma, Sanrio and Kirby.
So let’s recap shall we, SoKawaii is a monthly subscription service that handpicks 6 to 8 cute & useful items exclusive in Japan, pack them up real cute and send it straight to your doorstep. The items range from plushies to Gachapon, little figures, stationary, lifestyle, kitchenware and more. Also everything you get is 100% Officially Licensed, so no knock offs. You can also check out their Instagram for even more info, sneak peaks and insights into what is currently appearing in Japanese arcades.
So the first and largest item that was included in this month’s box is a Rilakkuma Bath Mat, which you could have gotten either in the classic brown Rilakkuma design or the white Korilakkuma one. It was actually a bit larger than what I was expecting and is certainly an eye catching piece when you walk in. For those of you that love details, it measures 45x65cm. Such a useful item to get and it’s machine washable, a massive plus when you enter your adult life as it makes cleaning it all that more simpler.
So the plushie that was included in this box was of a little sheep, no idea why they would associate a sheep with Summer really. Now this plush was available in 6 different colors, in which I got the light pink one. Now I have plenty of plushies and didn’t really care much for this one, so I removed the bow and gave it to my little dog. He loves throwing it around the place like a football, and as of writing this, hasn’t torn it apart yet. Now this plush doesn’t seem to be from any particular brand, but seems to have been added as more of a filler item. Now the item beside the plush in the picture, is of the Sanrio Ice Cream Pocket Fan. A must have for the hot weather, which was a shame I didn’t get it last month instead. All it needs are two AAA batteries put in through the cone and Voilá, your off! A tad noisey to use, but the wind created is lovely! Now this item is available in 5 different Sanrio designs, from Pompompurin to Hello Kitty, but I got My Melody. I do wish I got another character, as I also got the My Melody mochi cushion in a previous box and didn’t really want a repeat of characters. However it is still lovely, useful and much appreciated.
Now keeping with the bathroom theme, SoKawaii also included a Kirby Hand Towel. Did you know that in Japan, it is actually uncommon to find paper towels in public bathrooms? Many Japanese people actually carry a handkerchief or small hand towel with them for convenience. So why not pack this incredibly cute Kirby towel with you when you head over to Nippon=Japan (Hiragana: にっぽん). Now on to our Sailor Moon item, which is a treasure box. A fairly good size, much larger than what I was thinking we would receive. It comes in two designs of our favorite Moon Princess and is perfect for storing jewelry, make-up, stationary or even cue tips (cotton buds to us Irish folks). The only issue I had with this item is that the bottom of my box was a bit scuffed and scratched. Probably happened in manufacturing, as there was no damage to the plastic box that was housing it in the crate. If this happens to you too, then why not reuse the pink tissue paper that came in the box and place it on the inside of your Sailor Moon Treasure Box for that extra kawaii finesse. Lastly we have our Toy Story item, which is no surprise seeing this brand being featured this month after the huge success of the fourth film over the Summer. So our exclusive Toy Story 4 item is a letter set, with paper decorated with Woody, Buzz, Bo Beep and more from the new film. A very cute item and one I hope to use in the future, as I can not remember the last time I wrote someone a letter. So I’ll hang onto it for a special occasion.
Now onto some information on how to get your own box, starting with the cost of it. So here is the price break down of the box each month and the savings you can get, weather you subscribe month to month, or for 3, 6 or even 12 months. The longer you subscribe, the cheaper the box is each month.
1 MONTH – $35.00/mo
3 MONTHS – $33.50/mo
6 MONTHS – $32.00/mo
12 MONTHS – $31.50/mo
Now if you liked everything you saw in this review of August’s crate, rest assured that the items are different every month. Each box has 6 to 8 items included and a few of them will be revealed online through the SoKawaii social media as the weeks go by. September’s box theme is “Friendship Reunion”, which will feature goods from Gudetama, Pokémon, Kirby and Kiki’s Delivery Service, with a few of the products included already announced across their social media.

Better yet there is free worldwide shipping, but I do suggest spending that extra few euros or dollars to get the track shipping, so you can locate your parcel once dispatched. So that is August’s box, I will be back again next month to show you what September’s box has in store!
