I can tell you right off the bat that I really liked this comic book, it brought me back to the 1990’s era of comics.
Project Superpowers #0 is awesome, to say the least, and a great introduction to the series to come. Rob Williams writing is great in this book, the art, colors, and writing reminded me of comic books from the 90’s and I mean that in the best of way possible. We see Green Lama being shown the past and future of the team codenamed PROJECT SUPERPOWERS by The Death-Defying Devil which they were both a part of. From the beaches of Normandy to the future of a bleak world where superheroes don’t have a place of importance. They need The Flag, the living spirit of the American ideal to come back to inspire the heroes and try to prevent a war that is coming their way.
This band of heroes reminded me of Watchmen a bit and the sympathetic Devil character is really interesting like a man possessed. Project Superpowers has been a limited series starting back in 2008 with an 8 issue run. Jim Krueger and Alex Ross are the creators of this series with Jim Krueger as the writer and Alex Ross as the artist and co-plotter. They had a second limited series in 2009-2010 with 13 issues and it seems it took a hiatus until 2018. This series brings back some golden age heroes like The Black Terror, Dynamic Man, The Flame and The Face to name a few. This was my first look into these characters and I really like what I see so far, it’ll be interesting to see where it goes from here.
