Here at POTW we make the tough decision of what to buy if you only had money for ONE book coming out that week… this is easily the best comic coming out any given Wednesday…deal with it.
I’m back after taking last week off. That whole holidays thing. That and not much came out that I was genuinely excited about. Brian Wood changes that this week with Wolverine & The X-Men: Alpha and Omega #1. This is a comic that has been a long time coming. I’ve always been interested to see how Wood would handle mainstream super heroes. Wolverine will be just as good of a place to start since it fills his panache for hyper violence.
While its a foregone conclusion that the series will be written expertly, an interesting aspect of the book is that it’s structured to be handled by two artists. Roland Boschi and Mark Brooks will be doing different sequences on the book. One will draw a psychic plane, one will do a physical. I’m not a huge fan of either artist, but I am optimistic that each one will have upped their game since the last time I saw their art. The series premise is actually quite interesting. Quentin Quire screws with Wolverine and Armor as much as possible. While this isn’t just a physical fight, it’s an establishing of a working relationship of how these two will get along. Quentin isn’t intimidated or impressed by Wolverine and will test his limits.
If you want to see Brian Wood write any more mainstream superheroes, you will pick up this book and this series. Fans vote with their dollars. I for one will be supporting this series for more reasons than its the best book hitting the shelves this week.
