Pick of the Week for 1/25/2011

Here at POTW we make the tough decision of what to buy if you only had money for ONE book coming out that week… this is easily the best comic coming out any given Wednesday.  Even though we’ve not read it yet, we’re assured of its greatness!

David Hine and Shaky Kane developed their own heroes and mythology in Image Comics’ 2010 mini-series, Bulletproof Coffin.  The tale spanned through fictional comic companies which developed fictional heroes by fictional versions of the comics real creators.  This week it’s sequel, Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred #1 arrives at all the best comic shops.

Writer David Hine did a magnificent job of scripting with twists and turns that included the current timeline flowing in with faux old comics for the original Bulletproof Coffin.  Shaky Kane’s art style fit perfectly for the surreal tales being told with the original “comic within a comic” characters they developed.  His style was bright, colorful, and straight to the point without a lot of the over-rendering that goes on in most modern comics.

To be honest, I’m not even 100% sure what Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred is about! The strength of the original alone gives me faith to pick this up sight unseen.  For those of you who haven’t read the original masterpiece then I recommend checking out the new series.  If you like what you see, then pick up the Bulletproof Coffin TPB.  I’m sure though that after reading the first issue, you will be so intrigued you won’t be able to help but to check it out!
