Los Angeles, California and it’s the late 60s.. Hollywood is in its Golden Age. Actor, Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) has had a fairly successful career but now he’s not getting the roles he wants. His best friend and stunt double, Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) tries to offer support but there’s only so much he can do. One day while driving home, Cliff spots a young girl hitch-hiking at the side of the road and he gives her a ride home in his car. When he arrives at the place she calls home, he is in for a surprise..
This is the ninth film from acclaimed director, Quentin Tarantino and will possibly be his most successful yet. Having his name attached will push this film to a much wider audience on the whole.
Fans of Tarantino’s films will be pretty pleased with ‘Once Upon A Time…’ and its story arc. With an all star cast it’s a long old film, running at 161minutes but to be honest it really doesn’t feel all that long. With some movies you’re looking at your watch and wondering what time it will finish, especially if it’s a long one but with this, the quality of acting and story are of a standard to keep you glued for the duration.
As someone who’s never really been a fan of Quentin Tarantino’s movies, I went in with a somewhat open mind and was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was. Having really disliked ‘From Dusk Til Dawn’ when I saw it, put me off watching any more of his films. Ended up watching ‘The Hateful Eight’ a few years ago and saw things in a new light…
If you like a good well told story then this could be a film for you. The only downside really would probably be the very graphic violence towards the end. If you’re not squeemish and have a relatively strong stomach then give this a watch. You will be pleasantly surprised. Don’t be the only one in your circle of friends that hasn’t seen it.
