Monkey Nuts:The Diamond Egg of Wonders is created by The Etherington Brothers. Book 1 is a 64 page hardback.
The story is about Sid (a monkey), Rivet (a drinks vending machine) and the Chief of serious crime squad Tuft (a coconut) who are trying to save Isla De Monstera(which is in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle) from a number of odd and strange monsters. It’s a fun filled story, which as you can guess from the characters does not take itself to serious. The story has a feel of Monty Python’s Flying Circus to it.
After searching a lifetime Lord Terra (a dragon) has found the location of the Diamond Egg of Wonders and he believes it will give him unlimited power. He has a vision of his destruction being caused by two creatures therefore he uses a “Monster Magnet” that will draw every strange and odd monster to the island to destroy them. A chance meeting takes place between Sid and Rivet which involved Rivet falling out of a building window. As we meet our first baddie in “The Amazing Amazing” a magician who starts to flatten Chump Town. Rivet is promoted to officer by Tuft in order to solve the problem and Sid joins him as he thinks he can help him. After Chief Tuft sees the two in action, he asks them to go into the crime-busters business with him. Monkey Nuts is formed they use an old pirate ship marooned on a beach as a base and they get eye masks to wear.
Monkey Nuts then find that Chump Town keeps getting attacked on regular basis from even stranger monsters such as a giant crab-octopus hybrid and a thief with huge horse robot with rockets. Each of these monsters causes a huge amount of destruction on Chump Town. In each of the encounters our team of Monkey Nuts find a unique way to stop each of them. They then try to discover the reason for all of these monsters attacking Chump Town so regularly.
The art is so detailed from the characters to the backgrounds. The characters are rendered with so much personality. Every panel has so much going on. The monsters are wonderfully over the top. The way the panels are drawn they look like a story board for a movie.
The Etherington Brothers have crafted a fun and action packed story. The story is filled so many memorable characters and great moments. Sid and Rivet make a great team.
