Shaun Russell (Gabrielle Union) and her 2 kids are heading to Wisconsin to tie up the affairs of her dad, who recently passed away. She wasn’t really very close to him in his later years and so it’s hard for her to return to the family home she grew up in. They arrive and have a look around. While looking around, they soon discover that her dad had made the house into a fortress; panic room, security cameras everywhere, steel shutters that come down to cover the windows.. Shaun shouts for the kids but gets no response. She hunts high and low for them and soon discovers that they are not alone in the house… Who are these intruders and what do they want?

A story of one woman’s fight to rescue her kids while also taking back her home, ‘Breaking In’ is a real thriller of a movie, with aspects of a cat and mouse chase throughout. Towards the end it made me think of the Ealing Studios 1955 film, ‘The Ladykillers’. Can’t really explain it but when you watch ‘Breaking In’, you’ll probably see exactly what I mean.

A dark but very enjoyable movie, it will keep you entertained for the full hour and a half. If you’re looking for a movie to go see, then definitely give this one a watch.. a mother doing everything in her power to protect her kids is an unstoppable force.

Overall: 7.5/10
