ESET UK Masters bring the world’s best together to compete for £10,000 prize
Starcraft players from UK, South Korea, Germany, Romania to head to Telford for Grand Finals
London, UK, March 1st 2013: The ESET UK Masters season one open and invitational qualifiers have now come to a close, with 12 of the greatest StarCraft players from around the world through to the grand finals to be held at Insomnia48 in Telford, for their share of a £10,000 prize pot.
Hailing from countries including the UK, South Korea, Germany, Romania, Russia and Ukraine, all have had to successfully accommodate the changes made in the new StarCraft II expansion, Heart of the Swarm, and battle their way to victory against fierce competition. Joining the fray at the Grand Finals will be former professional Halo player and i47 winner BlinG, defending his title on home turf, along with i47 runner-up KrasS, from Germany.
ForGG (2nd in Electronic Sports World Cup 2012), Crank (personally sponsored by members of Reddit and UK gaming legend TotalBiscuit) and Sting (IEM Singapore 2012 winner) will be jetting in from South Korea to square up to such European luminaries as Poland’s Nerchio (winner of 2012 DreamHack Open: Budapest), Romania’s NightEnD (2nd in 2012 WCS Combined Europe Nationals) and Germany’s highly experienced HasuObs and rising star HeRoMaRiNe.
“It’s great to see such variety in the most talented players in the world, all competing for an exciting prize,” said Quinton Watts, VP Marketing and Sales, ESET UK. “I have no doubt that adding another layer of the world’s best from the BYOC rounds at Insomnia48 will lead to some of the most thrilling StarCraft matches we’ve seen yet, particularly with the Heart of the Swarm expansion. Excitement is high for the grand finals and I look forward to seeing who will come out on top.”
The tournament has drawn thousands of viewers over the past four weeks, who have witnessed victories both decisive and near between some of the greatest Starcraft II players from around the world. Using Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm has levelled the playing field somewhat too, allowing both players and casters to explore new strategies and builds throughout the event, much to the excitement of viewers.
There is still a chance to claim a place in the grand finals, through the “Bring Your Own Computer” qualifier taking place on the first day of Insomnia48, where players will battle it out to become one of the 12 going through to join the others from the invitational and open qualifier rounds.
The illustrious players that have qualified so far include;
KrasS (i47 Runner up)
BlinG (i47 Winner)
Each qualifying player has already won a hotel room and i7 gaming PC for the duration of the event, £150 towards their travel and free entry to Insomnia48.
